One of the interesting things I always noticed about D2 was that whether you played single player or multi player, the experience was similar. You made your character, you had to do the quests, and you could get a similar experience of playing through the campaign on multiplayer just like in single player.
Is D3 going to be the same? And if so, is there any real reason to play the game perhaps single player first? Because right now, isn't it always better to just play through online and whatever mistakes you may make in creating your character, you'll still have an online character rather than one offline?
Well, the entire game is solo-able. You will never be forced to play with other people. However, they have said that they want to encourage cooperative play through incentives. One major example is drops. Every player getting their own drops multiplies the amount by the amount of players. While each player gets their own drop, they can share/drop most of the items they get. Therefore, if you are playing with some friends and you are a WD and your friend gets an awesome WD drop, he can share it with you. With three other people with you, you have a much better chance of getting some gear you need.

I think the Starcraft II model will apply for Diablo III too.
If that's the case, then we'll get a campaign option while playing on battle.net that will allow us to play solo or coop whenever we want to. Achievements will be linked to our account profile when we play on battle.net.
Now as in Starcraft II i expect an offline option, playing as guests without any achievement gains. We'll still need a one time use of battle.net for verification to play offline.
Actually monster tends to be easier on group because some spell greatly scales when used in party (auras, cryes, any kinda of enemey debuff, massive cc). In most cases 2 players are stronger then 200% stronger monsters. Not to mention the amazing advantages of labor specialisation rofl.
So, if you are playing with 3 friends and the monsters gives 400% XP you are already in great advantage compered to a solo player.
In mmorpg like WoW the extra XP exist to compensate party logistics (you have to look for someone, it takes time to group everyone in the same place, etc...). Diablo does not suffer from those problems, so the bonus EXP is not needed unless they want to make group people's life really easy or solo people's life really hard.
Well, WoW has shared XP for the kills among the members (cause healers don't kill so they wouldn't get XP) and they add about 50% extra cause it's all shared among the group members.
The amount is trivial while not doing dungeons but extremely strong when in instances.
I guess that's a feature that wouldn't fit too much to Diablo.
In WoW, the target's XP given is divided by all the group members, and a group bonus is applied on top. I understand the game is soloable, my question was is the online play going to be like D2 where its actually just the campaign online? Or is there an actual substantial difference in content between single player and multiplayer? Ignore the fact that all these patches have added Uber and Super boss events, the core of the game remains in D2 that you go through the quests in order to keep progressing the acts. And I further asked, is there even a point of playing single player then?
I fully plan on firing up multiplayer first, and with whoever wants to party up, I would love to go through the entire game like that. If I have to solo at times, it's fine, I'm sure I will, but hopefully many of my friends will be playing so it should be great =D, and im sure ill become friends with many people on here as well =D
Also, already Diablo II shared experience within a party (however, IIRC the one who did the killing blow got more than the others).
WoW does this better and i expect Diablo III to do it the same. Experience comes according to contribution. So if you deal a good amount of damage, you get a good share of the experience. Someone who just gets killing blows without doing something else gets less experience than the others.
Well in D3 all classes are damage dealers first and buffers/healers/etc second. And in WoW everyone in a group gets the same amount of xp as long as you're in the area. Also, from what we've seen in the Blizzcon demos everyone seems to level up at the same time if they're in a group, so I'd assume the entire group gets the same xp as long as you're in the area.
I'm expecting them to be very conscious of the solo-8 thing and trying to make that unappealing. They've already done this with drops, they don't actually increase in number, just that each player gets their own drops off the same monster. I'd expect experience to be somewhat similar; rather than "sharing" a total mob experience, everyone just gets X experience if they are in the area of a killed monster. X never varies depending on player count or how buffed or unbuffed the mobs are by that player count. You might throw a bonus on top of this or not to encourage partying even more, but I think the key will be that XP is not "split" among players, much as loot isn't, so there is zero advantage to soloing.
I hope that online will not make the experience any different than solo. I do hope that Solo play has an option to increase the players count.
In regards to drops I do not care since I will not trade with anyone or take anything from another player if I do go Online. I like to use things that are dropped/created by the character.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.
If the game can be beaten with /players 4 when playing solo, it'll be too easy IMHO.
Why would it be too easy. It will be tougher at first since you are learning the feel and the mechanics of the game but later on it will be easier. I think it can be beat if you take your time and gather your gear. If it could be done by a casual player with limited or no gear then I would agree with you.

Well, I don't think Hell should be something a casual could breeze through with no rhyme or reason. Likewise, I don't think Hell should be so trivial that a better player could solo it with /players 4.
I mean, Diablo II was ridiculously easy. A naked HC character can kill Hell Baal on /players 8 with enough patience and determination.
Of course, I wouldn't yet know whether Blizzard will cater for my dream of a harder Hell difficulty. We will eventually know.
I agree with you.
I dream on a Normal that is in between Nightmare and Hell Difficulty of D2. Nightmare should be about twice the difficulty of Normal. Hell should be Hell (Close to impossible in Softcore and almost impossible in Hardcore). I mean that any monster you encounter in Hell is dangerous to you even if you are prepared.

I'm pretty sure Bashiok mentioned about multiplayer "stay close to each other or die" but i can't seem to find the original post to back it up right now.
Are the monsters not harder the more people that join the game? I assume that just having four people around will implicitly make it somewhat easier since you have multiple characters who can use their combination of skills to a greater degree than making even the monsters 4x as hard to kill, but I think that as long as solo play is viable, nothing is wrongly implemented here. The game should encourage group play while keeping solo play viable and close to as efficient. Multi-loot ensures there is no item bias towards going one way or another which would likely be the primary motivating factor to play one way or another.
Normal shouldn't be hard, nightmare should be harder and hell should be even harder. I mean, you guys are forgetting about the people who don't play that much or aren't experts. Not everyone is a great player, the game should be enjoyable for exeryone.
