I'm guessing everyone knows Blizzard's decision with loot distribution. If not, here is the basic idea - each player in a game sees their own drops, and not the drops of anyone else-. . But what if you are playing in a party, and really want an item your partners don't know that you want? (example : the last piece of a set you're collecting) The item could drop for someone else and they could sell it to a vendor or trade it to someone else in another game. I would really like to see the option for "Item Drop Notifications", or something along those lines that pop up in the corner of the screen every time a rare item is dropped. That way, you could politely ask your partner to give you that item or trade for it. Unfortunately, these notifications might distract you while fighting.. so they could pop in five seconds after your final attack, or something that signals you are not fighting a monster.
If you think little "pop-ups" would be annoying you could just turn them off. If anyone else thinks this is a good idea or has a reason it wouldn't work out, please reply.
Well... I don't see any reason why it couldn't work like Guild Wars. Perhaps you don't have to see all the items that dropped but the chat log could have italic lines that say "Player X received an amulet" - or whatever item.
Plus I think it would always be a good idea to discuss loot as you're going. I'd just want to make sure items weren't being thrown away if somebody could make good use of it.
I don't like the idea of the pop-up. It seems to slow down the pace of the game. I think it is more realistic to believe that the people you are playing with would more then likely tell you what there drops are if you get a set item or unique or whatever. I know when I played with my brothers we would tell each other any time we got a rare item.
"Unless you can also find other class items I'm not sure."
I've mentioned this somewhere else, but if the limit your drops to only your class then they will have ruined any sense of commerce in the game with no trading except for runes.

The best solution would be to display the item when it drops in a different/faded color. You would not be able to pick up these drops, they would only be there for informational purposes and would fade away after a few seconds. This keeps your eyes on the screen where the action is.
I think this might be a bad idea though as I think it defeats the purpose of having individual drops. This was my drop and it is possible that I need it for another character or can trade it for an item that I do need. If you know I have an item that I don't want to give or trade to you, you might end up having bad feelings towards me, which might ruin the party.
If you *really* need an item that badly then say so when you start your game. If someone gets the drop then they can decide to be silent and keep it, or trade it to you.

Plus, it would bother me even more if you thought an item dropped for you and it didn't :P.

Great suggestion, I'm quick to admit I'm not pleased with the direction Blizzard is going in a lot of other areas being both a D1 and D2 fanatic, that being said the player specific drops to encourage cooperative play was a great idea and I think your suggestion would enhance that addition a lot.
Separating item drops by character for me is certainly fair but totally unrealistic.
Adding a log of dropped items from all other characters would be really great to add reality to the game. It doesn't have to be a detailed description, just item type and rarity.
I would like a small item log that I can collapse and expand at my will. Something that says "Danthrax looted Big Ol' Gnarly Club of Frost" or "Danthrax looted unique Club". I feel that if you see a party-member has picked up an item that you want, you should be ready and willing to trade with them with something of similar value. If they don't want what you're willing to trade, too bad... After all, with player-specific drops, everyone will be getting something. Whether you want what you looted or not, you will have something that you can potentially trade for an item that tickles your fancy.
Well here is a thought i had. So basically, if the item is not for you, you dont see it. I think they could be doing this for economy wise. That way, you go to a vendor and someone sells that item. and you in turn have to buy it. WITH GOLD!!!
maybe they thought of it that way. Also, very early in game making. So who knows what happens.

I didn't think of that.. but wouldn't you want to kick yourself if you forgot to check the vendor and the item you've been looking for was in it. But then again, if the game was more based around gold and visiting merchants it would be an automatic thing to visit vendors.
What? Where does it say that? I need valid point to see if it's real.
It would really suck if there can't be multiple heroes of the same class in a game.
Would be a nice Gold Sink, then again... Would that not be annoying? You'd need huge lists of items. Merchant items and the 112379082743 sold items.
I must have had a brain cramp.. Now I'm confused is it six or four players per game now? If it's four than with five characters.. not everyone can play.
If it's six and they make 2 for the expansion (just a guess) There will be a total of seven and not everyone will fit.
They said that they would *prefer* to set total players in a game at four, but it isn't official and they also said that it is tenable (up for change). It's not set in stone yet, they may change their conglomerate minds.

Or a tab that allows you to switch between "social" and "item".
And yeah, I hope that a class can receive items for another class.

But I agree with Nocturne. Guild Wars system, as far as player specific loot, was one of the best I've seen.
CyberPunk RP Nexus

I loved games like that in diablo 2.
