As anyone likes to see huge numbers, the new 6pc bonus is indeed a setback... Yes dashing back and forth with jawbreaker, you can have good upkeep, but keeping track of 30-35 yards is doing too much and also you gotta move your cursor back and forth constantly which makes my arm tired, none-the-less my eyes can't take a break for a second giving me a mini seizure. When playing any other class, they can walk up to targets and tank and spank everything in their paths, while new monks have to work their !@# off to calculate the distance between dashing strike, finding mobs to dash back and forth to, and elite affixes. And if the elite's have the god affix, your pretty much screwed running back and forth trying to proc dashing strike. Furthermore, regardless of how many charges you have, you need to use dashing strike to escape during sticky situations, and if your out of charges, there is another 6 second wait. Maybe if Dashing strike cooldown can be lowered by cdr or even jawbreaker being 20-25 yards I may reconsider this build, but till then I will stick with my zdps/support monk because it is way more consistent and more powerful than this annoying, arm tiring, eye gouging spec. You can argue one does more damage but when it comes down to it, I play diablo to tank and spank and faceroll, not to work my $%^ off.. and till further notice for patch 2.1, I will not be playing with this cheesy-work-spec till; 1: change jawbreaker range, 2: change charge cooldown, 3: change 6 piece bonus to summon all mystic allys. Thanks for reading my rant. ~Monk forever
Trust me I've been playing since d2 and d3vanilla.. dont get me wrong, I farm t6 in a group like cake but when playing solo with the lightning set, just requires too much to use. and understand that with/out jawbreaker still doesn't change a thing, you have a 6 second cd and elite affix will kick you ass. I play to be consistent, and when i refer to tank and spank, I mean it as literally faceroll like the WD class, and maybe even a leap barb. I am just stating that I am not here to play diablo to work.. new monk requires more awareness/movement. Not quite sure if you played your monk enough l0l... I have over 450 hours and when i say work, it means work, I only play monk and no other class. As I've stated above, till they change skills to be cohesive with the 6piece bonus, I will not be playing this cheese-work-spec.. trust me once you farm t6 in around 5-7min you wont go back (in a group). All I am saying is once YOU play the new set bonus enough it will get repetitive and tiring and will prob swap classes or go back to what is op. Dashing strike should not be the main skill of a monk, it's a skill that should help you move faster/get out of sticky situations. This maybe only me but scrapz, the highest elemental damage monk feels the same way.
I would prefer something other than dashing strike to proc the bonus. I think they are going with the theme/philosophy that lighting is fast, so 6pc will proc fast/high damage. Still doesn't change the fact it strains the hell out of your body, and when you have to work your body to play a video game, that is when I say no. This isn't Wii Fit for gods sake. A game is meant to have fun, and in a ARPG game, you should be able to tank and spank when your near end game items. Everyone likes to be op but if the risk is yourself, then what is gaming? I personally think they should reconsider the set bonus, as being reliant on one skill is pretty gimmicky. Left-Right-Left-Right pretty much all your doing and if anyone thinks this is fun, please voice out an opinion and a good reason how this can be "fun". I understand people have their own views on fun but repeating the same song over and over again will get stale.. gets pretty damn boring pretty fast. Yes all classes rinse and repeat a lot but they can continue playing because the spec is fun to play, but moving your mouse over and over again left and right can burden your well being.
I was using jawbreaker and still ran out of DS charges while trying to do the whole dashing 35 yards back and forth. It got old really fast and boring so I went with my regular lightning build and I am having fun again. I'm not just dashing around the screen. I dash in for the set damage and use a few EPs and LTKs then dash again and everything is dead. I have quicksilver on DS so that I can do those 2 dashes and still have a charge left over incase I need an escape.
My 2 cents: I don't believe that the 6 piece set bonus of the thousand storms was intended to make monks dash all over the screen like idiots. I think the purpose of it was to add damage to one of our non-damaging abilities. Let's be honest here even with barrage on it DS was an extremely low damage ability and the only use of it was as an escape. With the 6 set bonus you add a ton of damage to this ability. Unfortunately you have too many people trying to abuse that set bonus by dashing all over the screen with a jawbreaker on.
Sorry I have been quiet during these months as I have taken a break from d3 till 2.1 release. The rinse and repeat on Live doesn't want me to play d3 at the state it is in. The changes on Dashing strike cooldown has gave me some hope but still does not feel like I am playing a Diablo game. As I have stated above that the ping pong motion is very disappointing as a mechanic for a monk spec. I still await for a Raiment 6pc bonus to change into something that gives monks an umph! The PTR updates seems promising and I do enjoy my tank and spank spec but the raiment 6pc bonus should be be a different effect. Dashing strike back and forth does not promote good/healthy state of monk gameplay. I still think that the ping pong spec is very tiresome. While other classes are getting drastic changes to their kit, Monks are still behind and I don't think changing only the cooldown on Dashing Strike will help solve this issue. I guess we will await till 2.1 is on Live servers and could change my perspective once the spec is in full use with the new trinkets and accessories/items to follow. ~Monk forever
