Cain seems to know the barbarian pretty well, judging by his tone of voice, and what he says in the gameplay trailer. As most like they had met some place before.
That scene could be further into the game than many of us think, like their second meeting in the game for example. If it is their first meeting, then they would have had to have met somewhere before that scene. D2/LOD works quite well. Considering the D3 barb is the D2 barb. Or at least the D3 Male barb is the D2 Barb.
From different interviews and articles as well as artwork it seems like male or female of a character does have some bearing on the story. The Male barbarian looks to be in his 40's if not 50's, while the female could pass for 20.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Maybe the two of you are right and we should all just wait and see what the barb will bring to the story line.
As said before we all love D2 classes, we each have a special one that we like to play, but if you stop and think about it, if blizzard did bring back more of the old classes, would they tweak them somehow to try and improve them only to just take away what we love about them. So maybe we should leave them where they are best in D2. Because i know that things have been done and afterwards you stop and think i wish we had just left it alone but now there is no going back.
I know i said i wasnt a fan of the barb in D2 but maybe with what they are doing to improve him he will redeem himself in D3, and as i have said already i feel the WD will be a new look at the necro type of game play and i hope it takes it to a new level.
hate it when you walk out of the room for a while and find that you come back and place your post and it makes no sense in the forum now because it has already moved on from where you left
I am hoping for a worrior player, I love them >.> Something about the armor looking good on them for once.......All the others the Armor doesn't suit.
You mean a Warrior? Yes, we have one already - the Barbarian! And by "worrior" you probably mean a Knight, with full plate armor - I see that as a high possibility but who knows.
It's been bothering me though. All the official blizzard artwork for Diablo II that include a barbarian, he's dead! except maybe 1 or 2 of them. So I find it really ironic that he's the one to return.
even though i feel like i read that exact same post a page back, I agree with Djinn. The thought that the character commonly associated with reckless abandon thrives in a world of cold, calculating forces makes little sense to me, anyway. Cannon fodder like a berserker class is expected to be the first to go.
edit: i must have been imagining a post with the same thing, i can't find it. Only bothered to go a page back, though.

That's how it would happen in a fairy tale world. But in our world the strong survive and the weak fall prey to evil.Sanctuary parallels our world.

I've only seen him dead in 2. The one where the Paladin is coming to the rescue and the when worlds collide images. I have seen him alive in at least 5 other official images/posters. I have 3 posters of the Barbarian that I bought in a poster magazine, (2 are kinda damaged), and he is alive in all 3.

you know what? every single thread on this entire site has someone complaining about something or another, why would people want d2 characters back in d3 in the first place? we've played them to death, all of us. I cant wait to start a character, one at a time and see their ins and outs, i also can't wait how different skill trees will be developed for barbarian, thats another thing... Theory: There's a reason why only the barbarian is back: he (whether you play as him or not) is gonna be key towards the game, basing this on the fact that the male barbarianis the same barb from D2, only remains to be seen...
good post, qft man

Just wait if they make D4 (not WoD) they might bring back other classes from D2 since they have some time to find new or modify their skills
