Are you kidding? They are very much intended by the developer. This is no different than Nightmare or Hell. You select it, and thats it. Just because its command instead of a switch or option in the main menu is absolutely meaningless.
They are in absolutely no way cheats.
And on the topic of cheating, most examples here are. Copying saves, blah blah, its all cheating. Don't try to turn around the meaning of words, here. Its cheating, plain and simple.
What you can say is: Yes, its cheating, but I do, because I find it makes things more fair, or its just how I like it. I'm a cheater myself, I will cheat in every single game I got to enhance my gaming experience, adapting the game to be better in my eyes and I have more fun because of it.
There is nothing wrong with cheating in cases like that, but don't call it anything else, it IS cheating.

What does /nopickup do, anyways?
It just means you HAVE to use Alt to pick up items, you can't just click them on the ground, which is actually useful since you will never accidentally pick up something with this one.
And if THAT is a cheat to anyone, then I am laughing really bad.
/nopickup makes it so item names are not visible when you mouse over items, and you can't pick them up UNLESS you press alt.
the default setting allows you to mouse over an item, see it's name and pick it up without pressing alt.

they'll never see me coming.. life is a sequence of tragedies, inconsistent only by fleeting, elusive moments of pleasure,
serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.
I have never said that cheating is bad, I only gave my definition of a cheat.
Are those D2 codes given to you anywhere in the game? No, that is why they are cheats and not simply ways to adjust the difficulty (like Nightmare/Hell).
What does that have to do with anything? They were added in the game later.
Then why are runewords not cheat? Clearly, they are not given anywhere in the game, and for some to be find you'd need a thousand years of playing fair.
You may say that the example is not fair, but in truth its exactly the same thing. Just because the game doesn't tell you about it doesn't make it a cheat, doesn't matter if its a Command or anything else.
Yeah runewords are not even available in D2 classic probably y its so much harder. And with LOD blizz released patch 1.09 and the runewords and added more with 1.10 and 1.11... although 1.11 runewords suck.
But on the subject of cheating. Players8 is on battle.net closed technically even though you just don't see it. Cause when 1 person enters the game u know "Diablos minions grow stronger or something like that" thats just basically players2 going into effect. In my opinion using it on single is not cheating. For me i CANT play with out it in effect its harder without it then with really cause by the time i hit baal im already lvl 40 after doing all the quests. Nopickup is just something to help the player and as u said emilemil it has to be something that alters gameplay significantly and goes to the players advantage.
While Hero editor is cheating cheating can be fun for you. Doesn't mean that the other person likes it. Since its only available on single and open bnet and the ppl who play on their anyway are almost always cheating i don't see the big point of worrying about it since you probably have never even played on open (i know i haven't).
Duping, Maphacking, Botting. You can all do that on bnet (cept maphacking i think cause i friend of mine recently got banned not sure if it was just the program he was using). Duping is what really screws u over. Since the entire economy basicaly depends on duped runes (and still does to my knowlege but its been half a year since i played on ladder). Botting is annoying and thats about it. If your gettin good xp from fast baal runs thanks to a botter don't complain just get the xp and laugh if you hear that hes been banned.
