Most of you know what i'm talking about. When you first make a mf character your thinking the more mf you got, the better items will drop. That didn't work out so nice when you found better items with lower mf.
I decided to test something out over a course of three weeks (after i payed my little brother to level 3 characters to 90) to see if having less was better.
ww barb had only 50 mf found:
Arachnids belt
Shako
Hoz
Soj
Maras ammy
So many IM hammers
ber rune (i think this was my best drop)
mf sorc with 500 found:
tal rune
Skulders ire
Griz armor
tals ammy
again, so many IM hammers (why do they drop the most?)
another mf sorc with 1564 mf found:
town portals
minor mana pots
Dol rune
White crappy items galore
few crappy set items
I only played each character 4 hours a day (I got a part time job, playing conionously gets boring and i start to feel sick for some reason) for a week.
Note: I ran pindle skin, diablo, meph, baal and andy.
Anyway, point of what im trying to say is...I hope the mf system in d3 will be better than the one in d2.

SAY WHAT AGAIN, I DARE YOU, I DOUBLE DARE YOU MOTHER ******
MF only helps so much...its only increases chances a dropped item will have magical/rare/set/unique properties thats it....no guarentee.....and lets not forget it has diminishing returns....MF helps less and less as you stack it on your character.....after about 200-300 I THINK it start giving you little to no help....but takes away ur killing powers so hinders you overall after that point
Ive had simialr things happen to me.....on my 500 MF mfing sorc back when i was uber noob i found nothing after 1000s of runs...maybe a shako or a arach thats it....on my zero MF barb that was built for PVP melee only I found in 4 consecutive games...a perfect maras, a HoZ and a ton of shit like skins and even a soj......
Also take the runes out...MF has no effect on if a rune will drop or not
I hope MF comes back personally....but they gotta explain it better for people this time around....
I think it'd be pretty interesting if they had to where certain items could "level" up with you, persay. As in, the more you use it, the more damage, etc it does (to a limit of course).
Then, you could get an item, and actually WORK to get it really good, and trade it off. That just seems more rewarding that luckily finding it. Plus, it gives you a reason to use weapons that aren't as effective as another, and even perhaps encourage more variety, since there won't be that "one" weapon that outdoes all others.
I want some more proof in your claims. I could right now say that IK Set it better than a full Engima/Botd Maul Barb with very high vit and str and my proof was saying that I killed more people with IK.

DOH me dumb :(....he has no proof....other then what hes saying lol.....but its not surprising givien how little MF truly helps for godly drops dropping.....the game is pretty random lol... I mean yes MF does help in the chance that the amulat that is going to drop is unique.....but wether or not its a maras or some shit like nokazan not so much
Edit: PLEASE take out the runes...the runes you found had NOTHING to do with the MF you had in any way

I don't know, MF was pretty nice to me. I got so many nice items because of that...

Well like I said...more MF IS GOOOOD VERY GOOD....but the item drops are VERY random as well....and some people are just plain lucky......the more MF the more the chances the drops will be come unique or magical or whatever but its still very random....
Runes aside ( i didn't know, my bad) i still got some pretty good items. I guess some people here are just mad, because they spend a lot of time into finding those items and never do. I get on after a two month break and find a arachs in my second try at a meph run.
Maybe it was a fluke because the only thing i have found lately was combat gc for a barb.

It all comes down to MF dont help a whole lot and random loot is random.....

I seem to recall the point of diminshing returns around 425 mf.
Oh Intro to Econ, is there anything you can't solve?
Yea but the problem he's having is probably the amount of shit magical items (a hundred thousand IK mauls) vs the amount of actually nice and valuable magical items (arachnids, etc,...), and thats just pure luck, mf doesn't know the difference between crap and godly. Thus you might only find a couple of magical items with a zero mf character, and those couple of items might be pure godly and you might find a kazilion items with a 2000 mf character and they might all be utter crap.
Depends on what you mean.
When Diablo II decides what items to drop, it first looks at what treasureclasses the killed monster belongs to. it then picks an item from those classes. If it is a piece of equiupment, it first checks what level it's going to be:
Exceptional>Elite>Normal (I'm fairly sure it checks Exceptional first, which is a bit strange. But if you mod the game and set both the chances of getting exceptional and elite to 100% for an item, you will always get exceptional versions of it.)
It then checks the quality of the item:
Unique>Set>Rare>Magic>Normal
Magic find increases the chances of spawning anything above normal. Which of course translates into a lot of magic items, since the chance of getting magic items is far greater than any of the other three types.

I may be wrong on this, but any point of MF suffers from diminishing returns, it's just so damn little in the beginning it isn't noticeable until you get up into several hundred points.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
I cant believe people are still talking about how MF works tho lol....im getting flashbacks form like 6 years ago lmao
Either way....have like 300 mf or 500 max.....make sure killing speed is high other then that id forget about testing it on such an insanely random system
