I did a search here for the answer but what I found talked about what is and isnt (almost nothing) socketable but people weren't mentioning the number of sockets.
Is there a limit of 1 socket per item or will certain items have 2? 1h vs 2h weapons might be restricted if it was 1 and 1 - but if they can have 2 sockets in an item can there be more?
In D2 sockets were interesting - "bigger" items had more slots but in D2 all the items are only 1 or 2 inventory slots in size. I seriously doubt a char will have more than 8 or 10 sockets to worry about but I was wondering if they've made any official announcement on the number of sockets.
Every items can have 1 atleast I think.
Helms 3-4, armor 3, maybe 4. shield 4 very likely.
Let me just say... wow - that's a lot - but since that time Ive read that its gems and only gems that get socketed so i guess they wont have to worry about you smashing 4 rare jewels into those slots and having an item with 25 effects on it.
In the beta all I've ever seen are one socket magical items and they've only ever came from crafting (journeyman level). It's a little obnoxious considering there's no gems in the beta! d:
