Diablo: We've invited press to Blizzard HQ to help us make some important announcements on August 1st. What features do you hope/think we'll reveal?
Strange wording, "features". Perhaps the beta announcement will or will not be announced, but regardless, it looks like he's indirectly hinting at a feature/mechanic reveal. What do you guys think it'll be this time?

More than likely some type of fighting mechanic or boss encounter mechanic. I doubt that they are ready to give us any thing specific about the auction house, or any of the things that are still a "complete mystery". Lets just hope they can push a beta out before November.
Well... I'd like to think that since fansite owners had to be kept under NDA for this stuff, it will be something a little more important than that. Besides, beta has to start sometime in the third quarter, so I doubt that they're going to keep their mouths shut for much longer.
I really think it depends on WHAT press they're inviting.
If it's just fansite press, then definitely one of the game mechanics we've been waiting on.
If it's larger sites like PCGamer, IGN or other such faggotry, then definitely a beta announcement. Highly doubt they'd bring in anything other than fansite press if they're going on about how badass their latest mechanic is.

That really worries me. We better get a damn Beta start date!

Only system I can imagine them showing is Battlenet 2 integration which should clarify stuff like Auction House and how we go about putting groups together.
It really seems detached which is a good thing, they mentioned "important announcements" and then the mention of which features we would like to see, hopefully they are completely independent of each other.

We'll beta is only given out to certain people announcing a beta to big named companies that most people won't get into doesn't seem fair.
It'll probably be battlenet 2.0 features or something inside Diablo 3.
I think when beta gets announced it'll be fairly quiet and the people who will actually get the news are people involved with Diablo 3 but outside of people not involved beta won't be known to them.
Battle.net is integral to the experience, now more so than ever. Especially since we might see an integral trading system, character-to-character item transfer system (even if this is in-game, it's still battle.net level), and match making for PvP and possible PvE. We might even see feature's no one has even thought of. Those Blizzard folks are purty smart, after all.
Also, I'd like to see more concrete chat rooms instead of the window-popup thing in sc2, but that's just a matter of personal likes.
They're going to reveal it all. They wouldn't call in big press websites like IGN if they wouldn't. Plus, if "internal beta testing" started waaaay back in May, they probably had the "trading system", Demon Hunter resource system, boss encounter system, and pretty much everything else figured out.
They reveal things at a small pace to not create too much hype on stuff that can be removed as development progresses (like the Talysman) and to not throw away all their ace cards.
But this August event is definitely related to a beta starting date, and I'm pretty sure they have all of the game figured out and designed.

I think there will be match making, and it is a feature, and they will probably announce it then if anywhere. It will be along the lines of the SC2 match making system. For PvP there will be 2v2, 3v3, ffa? As for PvE, perhaps there will be something like ACT 1, 2 , 3, 4. Maybe the MM system looks at your current quest and matches you with people that are around the same quest. What are your thoughts?
Will there be open battle.net? I think not. It opens up way to much room for cheating/hacking. And as we all know, blizzard likes to make you play online. They love to ensure you have a CD-key. And so they should
1. Battle.net for Diablo III
2. Marketplace (Auction House) system
3. Resource system (including Demon Hunter's)
4. Boss Encounters
5. Beta start date (HooraH!)
6. Legendary/Set items and their place in D3
7. Achievements/Rewards
8. New PvP modes
9. Player Death mechanic
10. Storage/Mail system?
I think that this press event is going to be huge. I doubt Blizzard would invite all this press to Blizzard to just announce that beta is ALMOST ready for the public, and there are a couple new systems. This event will hold a lot of meaning for Diablo fans. So, this last week and a half is all we have left of silence. They will announce the beta start date. If not, they will in the Conference Call on the 3rd of August.
I think they aren't allowed to talk about anything, at all. Not even "we saw 'y' feature".
Then again I don't really think any sites will break the NDA, specially if you think that most of these press representatives have probably been promised something like beta keys (that they can't talk about too, or they won't even be able to see the event). I really think that's what makes them not want to reveal anything before time, if you do it and suddenly lose the right to 5k-10k beta keys, that's a lot of website visitors that will go to other sites to get it.
Plus, having revealed stuff when everyone knows about the NDA will make you look reaaaally unprofessional, and I can't imagine anyone that would like that.
It's just speculation on my part obviously, but I'm pretty sure the press invited to this event got "promised" some beta keys, and they can't talk about it yet. It makes sense to me.
We work in congruence. So if Blizzard wants it to be heard, it gets heard. Ya heard?

-Trading System
-Battle.net 2.0 Features
-Act 1 town, possibly Act 2, but I'll be happy with just Act 1
-A look at a few items we haven't seen
I'd be content with those on August 1st.

Monk > Wizard > Barbarian > Demon Hunter > Witch Doctor

I'm hoping we get a good long look at what they've got planned for endgame content. I'm VERY interested in what they're going to do with it.
