So I was WWing through herds of angry axe bearing cattle when a question popped into my mind: Will there be cows in diablo 3??? I personally would love another cow level. Maybe they could change it up somehow. Idk how though. What do you think?
P.S. I would prefer it to be patched in down the road.
Well its certainly not a fact, all they've really said about it is 'No comment.' I would like to see some kind of secret level though, but it would be nice if they made it something other than cows.

With the random pockets in the static world hosting a variety of things (quests, dungeons, etc) it would be cool if there was a universal portal, like the red portal to cows, that signified a special dungeon. Make it an ultra random thing, that has a low appearance rate and hosts some special mobs that have a high drop rate for some top gear. So if you are out farming and run across it, its like getting the Uber level jackpot - without the need to amass reagents to make it.
Knowing Blizz, it'll be fun of kittens or murlocs....
D2´s cow level started with the mysterious non-existent cow level of Diablo 1. Would be lame to continue the same joke.
But Blizzard loves secret levels and Easter eggs... I expect some heavy rainbow area, an unicorn level, or at least some big references to these things.
The lore of D3 explains that the people of Sanctuary either don't remember the event or those that do went crazy. I would love for a NPC in a city to be looney and talk about halberd baring cows attacking him. Nothing major but just a nice little nod to the old cow level.
Man in rags curled up in the corner of an alley. His hair long, white, and unkept, his clothes torn to rags just enough to cover his private areas. In a nervous and shaky voice:
"They were everywhere. I heard them from inside my house. The noise was coming from my barn. 'Moo. Moo' they said over and over again. I looked out the window to see my cows walking on their hind legs. They each had halberds, ten feet long, held with their hooves. They charged at us as if they were mad, Mad from what? One took the lead, almost as if he were there king. They broke down our door swinging their weapons. First they struck my wife down and then my daughter. I didn't want to leave them but one of the vows knocked me out of the window and I found myself outside. I ran and ran til I couldn't anymore. I can still hear the mooing." Regular cow across the street moos. "AHH!!"

That would be an awesome Easter egg. Would be even better if later on in the game and the guy tells you a rumor of a secret area filled with things to kill.

Lol that would be amazing haha.
I hope there is multiple secret levels.. I mean in all reality the cow level in D2 couldn't have taken that much development, the only fresh modeling was the cows! Not to say it wasn't awesome, just not difficult to accomplish. That being said this is a completely different group forming D3.. So I doubt they'd have the same style. I'd be satisfied with a unicorn level, where everything is ran through a rainbow color filter .

Also, for those of you who do not know, as mentioned the idea of the cow level actually came from D1. When hellfire was released, there was even a secret quest that gave you the bovine plate, a cow armor.

I don't want to see people doing cow runs again. Though I wouldn't mind a nod to it. Like a random quest from a guy in a field to go to his farm and destroy an "evil" cow.
I do like the idea of certain secret levels only being available by the slightest chance that you do find them in the static world. However, I think that could provoke grinding just to get to a playthrough where there is a certain level that you want to play.
I think that it should be rewarded through the mystic by means of massive amounts of gold. I think that would also be a way to make gold much more valuable. Let's say you buy the base level from the mystic and, EDIT: the next time you want to play the level, you pay her again (a substantially decreased amount) and she transports you there for another round.
Then you can grind on those unicorns all you want at the expense of gold (which I feel is the most logical approach).

Let's say you buy the base level from the mystic and, for every time you want to play the level, you pay her again (a substantially decreased amount) and she transports you there for another round.
I like where you are going with the idea. But lets not forget, most of the time the price goes up after every use, not down. So maybe every new round is harder and yields greater rewards. Therefore the price would go up.
How did the cow level get discovered in D2? cuz i dun see why someone would try putting a portalbook with wirt's leg in the cube just for fun
You can look in the mpq files for Diablo II. It has all the formulae laid out for anyone to read.
If they really want to make it "secret," they need to have all crafting formulae processed on the server end and then figure out a way of keeping people from blabbing about it or changing it every so often.
Of course, that's assuming there will be a cow/easter egg level, and that such a level is only reached by crafting. There could be other ways. It could randomly pop up as a dungeon on the world map, or as a sub-dungeon from another random dungeon. It could pop up as a random quest. Etc.
P.S. I would prefer it to be patched in down the road.
No Cow Level in Diablo 3.
In best case:
Maybe something with unicorns or rainbows.

Now, a unicorn level, that's another story altogether...
