Anyone give a damn or 2 about cinematics and endings?
Diablo2 cinematics was really linear and boring.
All the cinematics were revolving around the wanderer and marius
I personally like the Lod Ending where tyrael destroy the worldstone
and act 2.. just because tyrael fought diablo albeit not fantastic.
all said thou the quality of the CGI animation were flawless.
It would be really immersive if they involve the characters class in the cinematics.
Since blizz will be giving class specific quest and storyline
it would be cool (AWESOME) to see each class in a short or long battle cinematic.
and the ending could involve all the classes.
EXAMPLE1
A barbarian would walk into a dungeon the door closes shut
Those Minotaurs red eyes glows in the dark, more red eyes glow
the all of them come charging at the barb with frenzy attack and fanatism.
Barb War Cry and a battle ensue
EXAMPLE2
The Paladin doing a quest to cleanse the land of undead.
Meet the undead boss/summoner.paladin surrounded by countless undead.
He Held his sword to the ground utter a chant.
(anime esque) he glows power rising from ground , air swirling fast
Blessed hammers summoned and spins around him slowly at first then superfast
as it kills all undead. the finish the boss with a level 250 fist of heavens:thumbsup:
It would be indescribable to see diablo pwing all the class.
Just hope for some cool cinematics..
i got a bad feeling it's revolve around LEAH Well at least let us save her and shes dress very sexy and hot
Its not a bad idea to have cinematics after each act. As long as they don't drop it during an Act (like some other games) when you completed a certain quest or found a certain item, then I'm fine with it.
I always hated when Wow didn't have any more cinematics. Just the Intro and the Intro of Expansion. They are really nice yeah and create some atmosphere. But would have been nice if you could watch sort of cinematic after each raid dungeon you have beaten.
Well anyways onto D3, I wanna see some nice cinematics
They are awesome to have first time through the game... after that, just like cjc said... click click click cause you've seen em....
But I do bleieve they can be an integral part of the game, like where you are going... what is happeneing somewhere else in the world.... or in general give hints about "optional" quests or secrets to give you more incentive to watch them.

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
The cinematics in D2, altho quite good graphic wise, were pretty boring, just like the cinematics in War3 except the one where Thrall and Hellscream fight the Pitlord. Thing is Blizzard go for the important moments for a cinematic or the sentimental stuff, while what we want to see is a freaking fight or giant battle going on...
But hey, not like cinematics affect the gameplay so who really care if they are crap.
I don't think they originally intended to add the characters in the Cinematics. Because, think about it, that would mean they have to make 10 of every cinematic scene.
It is a good idea though, and I would like to see it in an Expansion Pack, since it would greatly delay the release if they where to include it in the initial release version.
How exactly can your character be put into the cinematics? They are prerendered and not made with the game engine. It's practically impossible.
And even if it were done, it would cause an inconsistency with the lore since the main character would vary depending on your character.
And Diablo II cinematics were boring?
WTF.
The expansion had boring cinematics, but Diablo II has the best cinematics of any video game I've ever seen. They beat all those FF games, the WC3 cinematics, and even WoW cinematics, all of which while visually appealing, lacked depth in story and the total coolness that the original D2 cinematics had.
The cinematics really drove the story making your character's chase of the Wanderer feel very urgent. It really felt as if you were always a little too late. It helped to pace the game and made the story exciting and gave it a sense of urgency.
The opening cinematics was quite awesome. It was epic, being 7 minutes long, I don't know any game with pre-rendered cinematics of that length, most are 2 or 3 mins at most. And Tyrael fighting Diablo and Baal was just totally awesome, so was Mephisto's monologue while the 3 Prime Evils united to open the gate to Hell. But the last cinematics was the best.
"You haven't failed old man, you've done exactly as you were meant to do. However ... I'am not the Archangel Tyrael ..."
Biggest OMG moment ever. I was totally not expecting that.
If anything, the D3 cinematics will have a lot to live up to if it is to top the D2 cinematics.
Also, I would hate for the D3 cinematics to be a whole lot of flashy action scenes with no sense of story like the WoW cinematics.
You kind of have two types of Cinematics. Cut Scenes and well Cinematics. Cut Scenes are generally short and are made in the game engine and can include your character as you made it, skin tone, height, wieght, race, the armor they are wearing and so on, then you have cinematics, which are prerendered and do not actually include your character, unless it is an NPC that you also have control over (Thrall and the various hero units from WCIII for example), or the only character available is a title character, Kratos in God of War for example.
Too many cinematics and the game will be flippin' huge and you can damn sure bet your ass you are going to get a cinematic disc so there is enough room on the play disc/s.
Cut scenes are good too, but too often and they prove bothersome, especially for hosts with slower connections. Seriously try hosting BGII with a 56k connection sometime. It is something you just don't do. Not if you do not mind waiting for an extra 10 minutes while cut scenes that last all of 1 minute load.
I like cinematics, they are usually wherein you get the story, or most of it (Cut scenes just keep the story moving). They are always a good way for companies to show of their skills. I find it funny that at the time of release some cinematics in games are superior to hollywood motion pictures. I act physically laugh sometimes. It's great.
Stupid crappy disney rip off, D1 cinematics are better than this.

Agreed, but cutscenes don't work for multiplayer games, which is why we don't see it in D2 and WoW. There will probably be just cinematics and dialogue, which if done as well as D2, is always great.
Baldur's Gate II is a multiplayer game. It has cut scenes. Conflict Vietnam is a multiplayer game, it has cut scenes.
But generally speaking your point stands.

Cinematics R love!
Eg? Mass effect (other than Diablo)
Elfen mentioned cutscenes: Mass effect uses cutscenes pretty damn well, two years ago, they would've been classified as cinematic. Tech has come a long way, so, OP you got a great idea there.

Yeah, it was really cool the way Mass Effect did cutscenes. But Diablo has never really been a character driven game, it's always been more storyline driven.

Diablo had some of the best cinematics ever put in a game.
I'd hate for D3 have too many movies, like another movie that was just released for the PS3.
I LOVE THE CINIMATICS ON DIABLO2!!! I loved the one where Tyrael was fighting Diablo and the one that had Diablo turning into his true form. Then theres my personal favorite the epilogue. (Even thouhg i dont lay LOD I like when Baal killed that one guy and unleashed his army) Heck I like the Diablo1 cinimatics

Yes, the recent PS3 release mentioned must be MGS4... my god... you would play 20 minutes and get a 45 minute cut scene.... it was a little rediculous. I mean it was nice to feel like you got alot fo information about what was going on in the story and such... but if I wanna play a game.. I wanna play a game.... not watch a movie.
But, Im sure blizzard will have where you can click through the cinematics again like they did in D2... so no worries about speed

I always thought blizzard should make a movie on the warcraft or diablo franchise. I mean seriously every time I watched those cinematics in the games I always wondered if they were ever going to make a big-time hot shot theater movie like Beowulf or something.
That would be frickin sweet lol.

They really have to do it for the story guys though. I just don't care much about the lore.

At Blizzcon there'll be a panel that discusses the cinematics. Should be good to listen to/watch.
