Oh and another thing. Why can't we get the artist who does the cut scenes design the armor?
Why does the armor in all blizzards cut scenes look awesome. Like take Tyrael for example, awesome armor. Looks like it's made out of metal, looks cool.
But then once you're in the game. You get to wear green construction paper cutouts that have no resemblance to actual armor whatsoever. Fail.

CGI cinematics and real time 3D graphics are much different from on another. In order to make in game armor look detailed and look like real metal requires normal maps and custom shaders. These two things require more GPU processing power and raise the min system requirements for the game. The team that does the Hi Resolution CGI stuff work independently from the teams that make the games and no video card on the planet could run those cut scenes in real time, so they are pre-rendered. Blizzard might use shaders and more normal maps in the game but we won't know until much later in development because these kinds of additions usually happen towards the end of the development cycle.
IT'S NOT A GOD-DAMN GARGOYLE, MORONS, IT'S A SPHINX! HOL-EE SCHNIDKERDOODLE DO-WAP CANDYLAND! OH CRAP! A SPHINX! IT'S NOT A CHIMERA LIKE YOU WANT IT TO BE IN YOUR SIGS! XD
Ok? It's ONE DUNGEON. One DUNGEON THAT USED TO BE THE HOLY MONASTERY OF THE HORADRIM/TRISTRAM/ZAKARUMITES! LOL! Why would it be demonic? Why? Why, why, why, why, why, why, why? Why, why, why, why?
... Case and point with lots of rage.

Blizzard is not responsible for the death and loss of your hardcore characters for any reason including Internet lag, bugs, Acts of God, your little sister, or any other reason whatsoever. Consult the End User License Agreement for more details. Blizzard will not, and does not have the capability to restore any deceased Hardcore characters. Don't even ask. Why then does the art in diabloII look more like real metal armor than in Diablo 3. Why does the armor in warhammer online's engine look like real metal? Why does the armor in Tian Quest look like real metal armor.
I could go on all day. I guess this is just out of the grasp of whatever modeler they have working there at blizzard nowadays.
I'm not buying your argument at all. Titan Quest is a few years old. And it looks better than what blizzard is doing today. They need to get with the times. None of the stuff you mentioned is valid today with modern video cards and processors.

I think the point is some "idiotic jackasses" on a forum are making better looking art than a company that rakes in over a billion a year.
Why do you care so much about how it looks. It was shown for like a few seconds before it got destroyed in the 20 min gameplay video which i doubt no many saw because it was on the ground facing down.
Fine isn't good enough. Words like "awesome, bad-ass, killer, scary, creepy" come to mind as acceptable words to describe the art one would see in Diablo.
"Fine" is a 5 out of 10 score. Not 10 of 10.
"Fine" is what you say when your food isn't that good at a restaurant and you're trying to be polite.
I am sorry, I have to say one thing to all of us here. If you find yourself getting frustrated with an entirely calm and mature discussion about how a gargoyle looks, one that includes people being open-minded and considerate of ideas and theories, please do not ruin the progress by presenting your own opinion as if it trumps all others'. If you do not enjoy theorizing and exploring possible explanations of information regarding an upcoming game, then you are open to abstain from such conversation.
We all have an idea of what we want this game to look like (down to every gargoyle/gryphon statue), but please do not go out of your way to create a heated argument out of a mellow, meaningful discussion. Whether you agree with how things appear in what Blizzard has shown us so far, let us all try to make an effort to not only respect them as developers, but to respect each member of this community's viewpoint.
Let exhibit empathy toward one another.
Sawa, sawa? (Swahili for "okay, okay?")
Shut the hell up!
Just kidding! Thank you for the great post.
To plagiarize some of the other threads: Sometimes, a gargoyle is just a gargoyle.
Or...a gryphon is a gryphon. I think it looks like one.
True, it does look more like a griffin (no, I refuse to spell them gryphons, personal preference!), but don't let that bog down the people who want to re-write the game for Blizzard.
Cheers,
SmashBoy (ate a mushroom, now I'm SuperSmashBoy)
Word, it's acceptable that some of the architecture might have been built in a suck-tastic manner (speaking in-game-world here).. However I guess ideally the majority of the stuff should be of reasonable detail and complexity. I mean, some of the stuff our own ancestors created with the most absolutely primitive of tools, was of surprising detail. Check this sculpture for example which was made around 447 BCE (Um, except I don't know how this relates to our current date, wouldn't that be 1561 years ago?) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athena_Parthenos
If i remmeber correctly the Tristram Cathedral was first bult by the horadrim, and then later converted into a zakarumite temple. Its possible that as the O.P. stated, the original intent was not for a dark gothic feel. I honestly doubt that they would go that far, i think its just a statue.
Blizzard has it in their capacity to make some pretty gruesome sights (think act 3 Durance of hate) with piles of dead bodies inside sacrificial pits.
One issue with the "Denizens of the world making the statue undetailed" argument is that gothic architecture, something Diablo is kind of known for, is very detailed and accurate. It's dark and menacing. This is before the events of D1 as the Cathedral was built before those events occured.
What we saw in the video was the same cathedral that we played D1 in. The statue simply does not fit, regardless of if it was 'remodeled" which it was not. Want some proof? Sure.
Just so we all know that this is the same place, look at the screenshots, then, read the lore!
Nowhere does it say that it was rebuilt. Nowhere does it say that it was remodeled. In fact, on other pages on the site, Deckard Cain mentions that it was ransacked and looted until nothing remained but dusty old tomes. This is what we see alright, but we also don't see any chaos that the demons brought.

Everything in its right place.
What makes you think demons are out to destroy everything in sight? Why must everything be a broken, disheveled mess from bow to stern, so to speak? If they had a single purpose in being there, it isn't very likely that they would just trash the place from top to bottom until they at least complete the task they had set out to do.
Nonetheless, you are taking too much of a hard-nosed look at how things "absolutely must fit this mold for which I have created in my mind" for so-called "gothic" architecture and design.

I dunno. I remember playing D2 and seeing everything destroyed that was in the path of the demons.
Houses.
People.
Architecture.
Etc.

I do not think that is the same Cathedral; to me it does not look like the same one from D1 (either inside, or the entrance). That page you gave a link to seems to just be summarizing the first time someone went into the Cathedral in the first game.
It is. Go examine the pictures. It's the exact same place. You wouldn't include the lore from another place in the locale of another.

Especially the guy above me who wants the fucking game to look like a constant cutscene.
The Gargoyle is fucking FINE.
Fine.
FINE!
Fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, f-i-n-e.
Actually, GET THIS!

It's a gryphon. Their wings go up
Gargoyles wing go from Top to Bottom on their sides and they have less of an animal body.

That 2nd one rules. That's the kinda crap i want to see in diablo.
