I never liked how people did runs and rushed through D2/LOD. It cheapened the game and made it seem like a chore. It made me think, "what's the point?". Plus it looked like no one was having fun, they just "had to do it" to power level, and for what? To keep leveling?
And similarly, power-leveling was just wrong. Why not go through each cave and area with buddies and really level up the real way? Not cheat and get help so you can leach.
To rectify this, blizz needs to introduce better quests, more quests, char specific quests (as they are), and randomized quests.
I have faith in them that they don't want their game cheapened and routinized like D2.
I'm sure Blizzard will implement the same system they did in D2 when lower level characters couldn't get experience from monsters that were a certain level higher.
However, to take out runs would severely ruin the replay value of the game.
Well, more quests will only help if you get xp for them, which you didn't in the first two games. I agree with you on the power cow/baal run thing tho. I did plenty of it myself but if we have to grind xp please be more creative for it at the "end game" level.

I always thought that runs and rushing to an extent was part of what made d2 great.. i would definately like to see xp runs and mf runs in d3
Blizzard really does need to do something about rushing. It was probably the worst aspect of Diablo 2. I can't think of anything for it at the moment, though.
I would like to see a method in which lower level characters can be taken through some of the more tedious and boring low level play in the very least.
This is a BIG reason that I started just playing Single-player with some friends at diabloii.net. It's a much more complete effect, in my opinion, when played like that. Plus, I can work on a "Holy Grail" as it is called which is basically a stash (dumped file with Diablo 2 items.) with every unique/set/etc item in it.
Going through the game the first time is fun, it's cool the second time, but after that it's all about getting to a high level and mfing.
While I respect your style of game play and know it was popular, I never did care for MFing. My big thing was to make different builds and see how they performed in the different acts. The less conventional the build I could get by with, the happier I was.

By just making the game fun in general? Nothing in d3 should be boring..
Thats why every dungeon, field, quest should be challenging, life threatening, and rewarding (items, xp, money), etc.
If there were no runs or rushing, Diablo 2 wouldn't be as popular as it is.

That's why blizzard really needs to instill the sense of COOP play. Games like left 4 dead (that is coming out) and other COOP games will have the same levels over and over again, but people will still play them over and over again because of the kick you get out of COOPing with friends and getting worked by the minions of hell.
You'd have to really work together to barely SURVIVE.
Maybe what I want is a deeper and richer coop experience that really requires teamwork and skill overlapping to survive.
Honestly, this is what i do in D2 to this day. I'm not an item hog or rusher, i just get a game going with 5 of my friends and we play hardcore like our lives depended on it. And it's a blast! I guess I'm all about PvE, and that should be stressed in D3.
I too think part of the replay ability of D2 was the boss runs and leveling up to get better skills and more powerful. However if they wanted to restrict this they could make level requirements for certain parts of the game, or they could restrict the experience a lower level character would get from say Baal Runs, however they would level up quickly by going to a lower level area and do the killing themselves.

Exact same thing with me. I just loved cooping with people and combining our skills to survive. It was intense!
Why not just lower the level difference allowed to 10? That way, if you wanted to rush you still can but with people closer to your own level. So instead of just running behind someone while they do all the work, you're getting involved and enjoying the game just that much more...

CyberPunk RP Nexus
agreed. One of the reasons I continued to play was because of Boss Runs. just make more bosses worthy of running.
It'd help if they kept adding on to the game to give people a reason to keep playing the campaign.
Maybe take the Guild Wars route and make it so that you can create PvP only characters at high levels without having to play through the game.
Looking for members of the old DarkKillers Paladin clan...

How about just PvP at any level? The damage and defense would all be proportional anyway..
