Personally I believe Blizzard will have the entire item system revised for D3. It's a fact that they will never be able to restore the economy of D2, nor stop duping. Seriously if hey wished to do so, they'd just increase the rate of finding every riculously rare item proportionally to the amount of its dupes available, this would mean officially crushing the economy of the game but I repeat: it's crushed already so please Blizzard do yourself a favour and either give it up or take the proper action.
Anyway back to D3: I think a rune system would be nice, although I think it should't be inserted the same way as in D2. Most RW take some time to be made, mainly due to the rune's drop rate which, considering the single player mode, are too small (obs. the system would work much better in a MMO environment), so that by the time you have the right runes to make one, chances are you found a better item already. Anyway, I don't have time to suggest a full solution yet, but in my opinion Blizzard should have different drop rates in single player and multiplayer modes.... I'm not sure if it is so in D2, but if it is, at least concerning runes, they did a terrible job.
theyre low lvl duelers.. idk.. ppl are just beasts.
I don't see anything beastly about spending your life on a game...

What items would those be? The only good low level items I can think of atm are Sigons
How do I know? You tell me.

Go play GW or something if you don't like items.
Go fuck yourself and mind your own business.

I think that was largely the point.
I am not sure what you mean? I get some mid-level runes pretty often and their basic benefits are much more powerful than those of gems. For instance, there are rubies, and there is a rune that adds much more damage than a perfect ruby...
And I am not even talking about rune worlds, those are crazy.

Runes are suppose to be more powerful that gems aren't they? however, they are like you say, too powerful. A rune shouldn't do more damage than a perfect gem, not after all the work you have to go through to get one in lower difficulties, as they don't drop, but the runes do.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I wish they fixed the duped items and such in Diablo II - it doesn't seem right to be using a Breathe of the Dying and Enigma / fort etc.. I mean hell, the BoTD has a Zod... A ZOD!!! oh well =P
I have just had an epiphany. People in D2 are addicted to runes. They start games just to trade runes to make a crafted item. I have always thought that that detracts from the game; everyone's beating each other up over runes.
What do you think of runes in D3? Should they be the center of attention? Should crafted items be so uber, they create god-like characters?
I think runes are much too overdone. If you are looking for an item to socket or to create a runeword, I think trading for runes is fine. However, people keep runes in their stash as a currency. Gold, of course, is too easy to find, and brings the question (in another poll), if gold should be more important. Also, runes that are used as currency are only High Runes (abr. hr), which are almost inaccessible to newbies.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
pgems definitely need to be buffed. i remember way back when i first started i found a 6 soc exceptional sword and i saved up pgems to fill it with. then when i actually finished i saw so disappointed cause it was a piece of shit.
gems are to easy to find to be any good, anyway you can prob fill a 6 soc item with all pems and get some decent psn dmg i think its 90 on each em so 540psn dmg. thats not bad for norm and nm

DIABLO = DEVIL its not supposed to be a nice game autostats are rediclous lack of pots is not welcome if it aint broke dont fix it! (diablo2)
Well I believe runes are nice. Rare, but nice. I have but one rune. I have a level 99 Necromancer, that took a while, but yeah..............
I use him on battlenet alot. He is a Guardian by the way.
Gold, of course, is too easy to find, and brings the question (in another poll), if gold should be more important. Also, runes that are used as currency are only High Runes (abr. hr), which are almost inaccessible to newbies.
Even if the currency was gold, how would it be different from HR's? People would still be hoarding it, and the large amounts necessary to get good things would be unattainable for newbies. It's just currency- the HR is like a gold piece.
we are addicted to runes but i never got why they dropped... arent runes something u carve into an item... so why not have a quest where u can get runes with a maximum of 3 runes per character (hell nm norm) and when u do all quests u can choose from a variety of different combinations and orders of runes (all being different on each character, norm would be like el eld eth... etc, nm would be like hel mal etc nad hell would be like vex zod jah) and gold doesnt poof.... but i relaly really like the barter system over pay for something with gold system... runewords dont take long to make because the hrs that ur using in them are almost all duped and the low runes are ez to find....honestly i would prefer to take runewords out of the game alltogether... no teleport for all characters, no fana on zons, no conc on summons, no auras on dream dragon hoj etc... back in 08 and stuff before mass ammounts of runewords were in play it was a simpler time but much more fun becausepeople did have all the shit i had lol... now with the exception of non runeword items alot of ppl have stuff i have eg: enigma, hoto, cta, coh, yadda yadda yadda....the only items that set me apart now are like valk, btals, gg circlets and ammys and rings etc :-/
Without cookie cutter runeword builds, the game is a lot more challenging. But I guess without cookie cutter runeword builds, you have cookie cutter builds of another type.
I don't like runes because the only way to get ahead of the game (or just to survive in hell) is to get uber rune words.

What is normal? Normal is a concept that everyone or a majority of people are the same or similar. However, we know that everyone is unique. If everyone is unique, then everyone is different. If everyone is different, then everyone is weird. If everyone is weird, then everyone is normal.
Ok it's just my opinion but gems are about 100 times easier to get than runes... prime example: hellforge quest. You get like 5 gems and 1 rune from that quest, of course runes are going to be more powerful because they are far more rare. It would be nice if a perfect gem had as good of stats as a rune, but it really doesn't matter... the only time you socket gems anyways is in lower levels, then you move onto runes just like you start out with sigon set and move onto higher sets. The thing everyone is forgetting about gems (that I think Blizzard designed this way on purpose) is that a bulk of gems are required for tons of crafting. For a true crafter, gems are just as important as runes. So even though gems don't compare to a rune when you get farther into the game, they are still very useful. The thing I'm wondering about in this thread is why everyone is complaining about gems not being as good as runes but no one mentions jewels? There are some jewels that in some items such as 2/3/2 claws for assasins, beat out any high rune or perfect gem. Someone please cry about how overpowered jewels are now:D
Anyways, there is nothing wrong with the way Blizzard designed the game or drop rate... the high runes are very powerful but they are also very rare. The problem comes from cheaters, and no matter how Blizzard changes the drop rates or how powerful some items or how weak others are, there are still going to be good and bad items... and guess what? As long as there are cheaters, those rare good items are going to be more plentiful and since Diablo is a pretty old game, not to mention a FREE to play online game... of course it's going to be harder to prevent hackers and dupers.
ya i have played this game for many MANY years and all i have seen drop is an ist rune... thats the highest. Then its Gul, Mal, and um nothing higher than ist LOL....
Runes are there in case you change your mind and decide not to suck anymore IMO. That's when you start farming runewords.
Or your decide to go back to school to get a life.
Put em' up old man!!!

They should basically make the game easier. That would allow people to improvise without thinking that they are going to fail if they put one wrong skill point somewhere, and uber items and other things would really feel uber, not like you get them just so that Hell is not too boring, lol...
