Yes apples I agree, I like the terminology of the word clan better. It embodies a group of people who are friends, team mates, and companions. With the word guild, none of those words come to mind. Now as far as the ability to represent your clan, I think there should be several ways to do so. One way being you could have the usual cloak and have your clan symbol on the back. Another way being you could have something like sashes, much like the cowboys in tombstone wore to represent there brotherhood. Another way would be to actually mark your armor with your symbol, as suggested earlier. Then there is one other way that I would love to use to represent my gaming peeps...I would love the ability to have a tattoo of my clans symbol on my character...to me, that would be the most bad ass way to represent your clan...even if you could not see it sometimes..the thought of being marked...hellz yeah!
Don't really care what the name is.. as long as there is nice system to form up a "team".
Agreed.
Im just asking for any type of guild/clan system so its at least more efficient then Diablo 2, if they built aspects of the game around a guilds/clans it would be great, think about it you and your guildies having to take down a dungeon of massive porpotions so it required like 10 to 15 guys to run through it and you had to complete with your guild.
There are so many options its endless with the whole guild thing.

Though, and that's important, you must not forget Diablo isn't a MMORPG, even though it took an aspect of it with BNet in Diablo II, I think it's unwise to start asking for MMORPG flavors in a hack'n slash game.
I'm not against the idea of proposing a way to get people and friends together under the same banner, but we want Diablo III, surely not another WoW(yes I know it's far from being one atm :D)

Thats true I was just trying to think of a couple ideas, but what kind of clan/guild activites can you have in a hack and slash game? More Cow King like levels perhaps? Something along those lines would be awesome

I don't really care, I think were making to much of a big deal about the name and not focusing enough on what Blizz can do to improve the guild system. I wanna hear some ideas of what you think Blizzard can do to make Guild/Clan activites more fun in D3 thats what I want to know, Who gives a fuck if its called a Clan or a Guild it's all the same shit right?

That depends on the class. Barbarian are divided into Tribes not clans, Warriors and Paladins have guildhouses, so they must be divided into guilds. The only only class that has clans are the Sorcerer and Sorceress. They are part of the Mage Clans. Of which the necromancer is not officially recognized as.

Yes, but it seems people have issue with the term guild, which is the correct term for RPGs.

Guildhousing. An area where you can store items, like a stash, only larger, much larger, and with consent, accessible by other members of your guild. You can put up a nice big sign or banner out in front to mark you territory if you want to.
Tabards, cloaks, engravings on armor, something to show your alliegence.
Not having to sacrifice characters in my accountname/character name for guild tags. It should be like WOW in the sense the game puts in the "tag" for you. But it does not necessarily have to show up if you mouse over someone.
While it would be hard to do (but not entirely impossible I don't think) I would love for NPCs to reference guilds. If a guild is based in one city or town say, Lut Gohlein, I think it would be cool if the NPCs in Lut Gohlein were aware of the presence of this guild.

I agree to all of your ideas. Guildhousing would be an excellent addition, being able to store multiple items for your guild to use... because if you can't use that Buriza, let the upper echelon dish it out to the rest of the guild.
I really like the idea of engravings, but I'll settle for a tabard or a cloak.
Tags would be great. Though it's very "WoW"ish, as some would call it, I think it would be a great way for other people to recognize your guild//clan by name. In WoW, nobody can differentiate a guild by its tabard unless it is something wacky, like a pink background with a white muffin.
And that last idea is killer! Why aren't you working for Blizzard again?

I would apply for a writing job, as that is what I am best at, I have poor err let's just say I stink out loud when it comes to actually drawing or designing anything, so yeah I would go for a writing job, but even that position is full time work. I would have to move to Irvine to do it. I not ready to just drop my job and pack up and move to California.
If there is some job for Blizzard that I can do from where I live now, hell, sure I do it.
I do not, nor have I ever worked for Blizzard. But I will not lie, it is one of my dreams.

Hey, I am not sure if I am allowed posting this, but if I'm not please take it down.
Anyways, I know this is way ahead of the release but I have formed a small guild named "Tyraels Might".
At first it was only going to be between myself and a couple friends, but they suggested I recruit others.
We are basically just a friendly group of people, the website was just created a couple weeks ago, and I'm looking at ways to improve it.
So by all means if you want to have a prepared guild for when Diablo III comes out, feel free to join at tyraelsmight.com
Good point, but guild is probably just a friend system.
Or certain side quests would require a guild to perform.

i believe the term in d2 was 'clan' which is more like a family or friends.
and pvp was my main reason for joining, that and insta-rushes and power lvling.

Generally speaking yes. But in gaming terms Guild is the correct term in regards to Diablo II.
Clan is traditionally used in FPS and RTS. Guild is more commonly used in RPG.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clan_(computer_gaming)#Clans_by_game_genre
well in terms of the diablo universe, clan fits better with the class descriptions.
guilds are more for jobs and artisans arnt they?
