Guilds. Everyone loves guilds. Even back in the days of Diablo we had clans. Now, in the days of World of Warcraft and "Guild" Wars, Guilds are everywhere you look. There is no reason for Blizzard not to put Guilds into Diablo 3. Clans were a huge part of the Diablo 2 multiplayer, and clan duels in Diablo 2 were still some of the best PvP times ever.
The dueling system is what set it off. It was perfect. If they keep it how it was before, along with putting arenas or "battle gounds" into the game, you could have the perfect game. Imagine being able to join a small game. 32 (maybe 64, and if we're lucky 128) people, and being able to go hostile. Or, if there is a person in a Guild, go hostile with the the entire guild, which then makes your guild hostile with them. Say a 64v64 guild battle. With individual Caps AND Tunics with your guild's CUSTOM identification image. Imagine uploading an amazing graphic that would be printed on everyone in your guild's armor. Like engraved.
Guilds are a perfect way to put team cooperation into Diablo, which is what the whole multiplayer experience is about. Massive guild wars with over 100 people would surely create the best MMORPG/RPG in the world, and on Blizzard's side, won't require a lot of work.
Well, I guess what I'm looking for in this thread is ideas concerning the aspects of guilds and or clans in Diablo III.
I would like to see custom titles given to members of the clan, such as Lord of XXXXX or something. You'd be able to pick whatever you'd like I guess.
Another thing I'd like to see is a member list. The leader of the guild would get a scroll which he would keep and could add/remove members, change titles, and other various organizing. Each member of the clan would have a special slot in their inventory for guild scrolls.
so as the "leader" updated his it would change all the guild members as well??
Well, yes. As the leader added and kicked members, each player's guild scroll would be updated with the current roster, as well as guild announcements and perhaps even some PvP tournament schedules and information? Hmmm?
It may also list each members characters and their levels and status and such. Pretty much the guild scroll would be made for member information and statistics galore.
Just give input on what sort of cool ideas would give clans/guilds a greater purpose in the game. Should there be clan houses? Markets? Insignias? You choose.
definitely Insigina, you should be able to look at a character and instantly know which guild they belong to.
like a little insignia of the characters shield or cape, well maybe not that might be hard to do, but prehaps on the party screen there should be some way of knowing they are part of a guild.
alternatively the game could tack of a prefix or suffix to your character or username to show your guild affiliation, that way you wouldnt have to use up letter characters doing it yourself.
and i think there should be some kind of guild only storage facility. where members of the guild can store items, like a guild only private stass

I think the insignia should probably be a profile image when you pull up your character menu. And the insignia creation module would have to be somewhat creative in that it would be a bit more difficult to accidentally duplicate another insignia, like in WoW.
And a corresponding title along with your name would be good, although I think it would be more likely that those titles would be for the difficulty of which an act is completed, just like D2. But, clan/guild rank titles would be a good idea.
I think a clan base would be cool. It could function almost as a separate act. The clan master could be able to make general customization decisions to add a touch of uniqueness. And there could be contractor-like NPCs which could offer to sell certain clan functions, like war banners and expanding the clan treasury or something. Just some initial thoughts, though.

that could work

that was kinda my point, the mechanics are already in plase to add a prefix to your chars name. but yeh i think DIII would have the same sorts of titles so what about a "(guild name or initials)" suffix then. that way you could have Guardian Archaeon (SICK). or something like that. it shows you title, name and guild affiliation.

i like the idea or war banners. it would be cool to have a little guild flag somewhere in the game, prehaps outside of a large building that only the guild members can enter. but game mechanically i have no idea if it would work, but it is a cool idea.

well if you have played guild wars you guys are describing its guild stature... the have capes to each Guild member and a Guild Hall where only your Guild Mates can go and there is a very well set up Guild vs Guild battle system

guilds in WoW have tags to show under your character where you belong and tabards. If something in that direction exists in Diablo 3 i think its gonna be exactly like it. I mean, guild houses for a single player game with coop? nah, dont think so. Guild management would also be messy if its not mmo and its more like Diablo 2 with people joining games. Guild houses/management works best for MMOs with steady worlds and many many players around.
Insignia, tabard, guild bank/market yes, it goes without saying. Nothing to add there.
But, a guild housing option could very well be implemented, and quite well too.
Step 1: Select where in the world you want your guild base. Assuming the whole (explored) world is at our disposal, this would allow you to select what setting and climate you want to be in. Only guild members will be able to enter, unless some sort of guild wars exist, but that seems far-fetched for a non-MMO.
After that is done, the job of securing the area comes into the picture. Clear the land so that the building can be contructed, kill all the monsters, root out the evil castle or whatever. All players of the guild can then gather money through regular playing that can be used to expand the guild base. Basic funcions should exist from the start so that smaller guilds do not suffer any drawbacks (guild bank for example) but more advanced guilds should get rewards for "advancing" e.g. trphies on the walls, decorations, perhaps a flourished arena or some such.
There could be sidequests for individual players to complete of varying diffuculties. Some may be quite easy and could possible take a couple of minutes to complete for a high level player, while others may be well beyong challenging for a regular high level character. Upon completion these could unlock guild options, perhaos a third floor, a new theme, a building out of stone instead of wood etc.
The guild house would be a purely entertaining aspect of the game if you wanted to expand upon it.
But of course, this is just me dreaming, becase Blizzard will obviously focus on different aspects of D3, and I doubt that guild housing even exists on their list of priorities.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

of course, with insignia i think there would be a few included with the game, and also the ablilty to import your own.

was there a step 2? that all sounds good.

could have some kind of notice board o nthe wall with a list of quests. like the map table did in Fable.

sad bad true. (cool song by Metallica by the way)

ooo can we be in hell? close to evil so i dont have to walk as far to kill stuff?? lol
i dont think i have any ideas to add on... other than they better support big clans cause we have what? 120 people in ours so far?
Hell could probably be a likely area, and establishing yourself down there could perhaps be like a sub-guild area, meaning that ou first have to buid a guild housein the real world.

Everything else was pretty much step 2, I kind of just started with a step 1 to start it off. But I agree, it was pretty badly organized.

Why not?
that was my point, you could easily just walk up to the table and see what quests needed doing and do 'em. i liked that.
but Diablo 1 and 2/LOD were a little different, you stumbled across the quests most of the time. but prehaps it could still be implemented.

But then I expect D3 to be radically different and innovative. I'll be extremely disappointed if Blizzard doesn't put an interesting twist on things in the evetual sequel.
