Ever wonder why Blizzcon is never held in Europe?
Because of things like Gamescom, it turns out all you European Diablofans have something to look forward too, as do we all come August 18th. That is of course, if this finding by a Battle-Net forum poster is correct.
Blizzard has scheduled a press conference at gamescom 2010 in Cologne where a new feature in Diablo 3 is going to be presented to the audience. It's still highly classified what it's going to be.
We'll get back to you about the details at pcgames.de on August, the 18th around 12:00 pm (CET), so all the Diablo 3 fans should make sure to check back then.
Diablo 3 will be playable at gamescom 2010. It's uncertain if Diablo 3 is still going to ship in 2011 or rather 2012 - Blizzard maybe is going to comment on that at gamescom. The press conference with game director Jay Wilson also includes half an hour of Q&A, during which we'll try to get our hands on as much information as possible.
Bashiok had this to say.

I am excite, because you are and should be excite.
Now, as we all know, Bashiok has a long track record of keeping us in the dark. When something is wrong, he has nothing against flat out denying it, or making witty remarks at the post. Curious then, that he would not outwardly confirm or deny this post, when it is basically guaranteeing Blizzard announce something big to us. To me, this is his way of confirming that yes, Blizzard is going to announce a new feature.
Notice the key word feature. Sadly, this rules out the fifth class for announcement; we all know something that big would be saved for Blizzcon anyways. But, the crafting system has yet to be announced, as well as the resource systems for the Wizard (which was recently changed), as well as the Monk's resource. It may even have something to do with end game content, or god forbid, the next iteration of the chat gem.
They also did not say how playable Diablo III will be at Gamescom. We do not know if it will be a demo similar to the other events, or a beta version. Though the fact that it will be playable once more gives us even more to look forwards to, as this means players may be able to interact with both the Monk and Wizard skill resource systems. Not to mention other various systems and features we've yet to explore.
Then, we have the comment on the release date. I don't want to hype this out of proportion, but it sounds as if they may be looking to announce a concrete release date, possibly even a beta if the full game is playable at Gamescom.
At any rate, it's only a handful of days until we get some concrete news on our hands, and that's something we can all rejoice about.

Oh, well Christ I highly doubt they're going to reveal a lot. Though, Blizzcon is still 2 months away.
Though, this is the second post in which Bashiok has been positive about Gamescom, which suggests they're planning to reveal something pretty hefty.

in last years gamescom they revealed the female version of the monk if i remember right. they are bound to show something. probably not the final class, but perhaps the second act environment?
Last years Gamescon did not reveal the female monk, the monk hadn't been revealed to that point. The female monk was shown in an internet web series, I forget it's name. My guess is that we will see a limited version of their Blizzcon demo planned for October, most likely a new area. There are a number of possibilities as to what they will reveal but most would probably agree with me in that the revamped and most likely final iteration on the resource system won't be what is revealed because that is not a game feature of terrible interest, unlike what Bashiok seems to be indicating that what is being announced is of high interest. If it is an in-game feature I wouldn't be surprised to see the PvP system revealed.

"Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. That we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."
Finally, some friggin news! I don't really care what it is, if it's something new I'm happy; hell even if its
just new videos of a new environment....something, anything. Sure it won't be huge, what with Blizzcon right around the corner, but need something after this long, long period of no news.
i want to see endgame combat speed... just a snippet. i minuscule tad.. like 3 seconds in movie mode of someone fast casting or running then continuously bashing a unit in the face.
Europe is HUGE! And even if Im in one country of many in europe, I dont think I have enough money just to travel to that country they have Blizzcon and play a demo. I hope they can drop an playable version soon on the web! Gaaah!
unfortunately that is correct. only way to play the game before release is going to Blizzcon or Gamescom. Gamescom should be way cheaper, but you got to have "some" money to spend for that too.

Any guess an deluxe edition will be released? Then I might pic up the demo when D3 hit the shelf, and later on buy the Deluxe package! Ho ho ho!
They did hint at a demo, but I would go with you in assuming that it would not be purchasable. I'd guess it would function similarly to SCII's beta, although since the game has already been stated to be as long as Diablo II, there shouldn't be much to test.
a special collector's edition version which will be around the price of the CE for SC2.
Battle.net was confirmed to continue to be free to play back in 2008 (except for Russia and some other country due to a low concentration of players per server, which I'm guessing is a higher waste in resources).
Edit~
Erp, didn't realize it was you. You're probably talking about the microtransactions, then? Still haven't heard anything new about them.
I ment, I will play the downloadable demo until an extra featured gamebox (Deluxe a la Diablo 3) will be released. I dont want the ordinary d3 game.
its not confirmed, but i'm sure it will be availiable for digital purchase on release, just as Starcraft 2.
same thing goes for the Collector's Edition. Making of DVD, Soundtrack, perhaps a map of Sanctuary mouse pad and the artbook is the usual routine.
I think at gamescon they will announce and show one of the two new systems they have yet to reveal. Probably the talisman, whatever it is. This is something pretty big to share but not big enough that they need to save it for Blizzcon. Plus, they introduce it at gamescon and then get in-depth with it at Blizzcon.
As for the demo, I think it will be different from last year's but it will still be in ACT 1 or 2. I think they will save a new act for blizzcon.

Hmm...a class could be considered a "feature". They are smarter than saying "we are going to reveal the fifth class at Gamescon" and destroy all buzz and speculation about it. That said, they are surely going to release the fifth class at Blizzcon.

Don't care about the 5th class, monsters or more environments.
One or two more years of speculation might just be a little too much to handle.
