Overall it was pretty decent, but I had expected more. My main complaint were the Spanish. Their first real appearance is in what looks like the makings of a great naval battle, but all they do is sail on. And that's the end of all boats for the rest of the movie!
The other time they appear it's simply to say "we just sailed around half the world with three ships and all the costs involved, and based on a rumor that a fountain of life existed. And the sole purpose of our trip was to trash this place if it did turn out to exist." And all of that to get a constipated ending where Jack kills Blackbeard.

Yeah. Very true. I actually thought none of the characters had much role in the movie. And the ending was pretty much incomplete and unsatisfying (which did happen in the earlier movies but this time it did not light up any curiosity within me to know what happens next).
And sadly i didn't see much of any action either as there used to be in the earlier PoTC movies. The only exciting scene was the one when they got attacked by those mermaids.
[And glad to see you by the way Phrozen. :)]

So you're the one guy who actually suffered during the movie.
P.S. I hate subtitles.

In retrospect, I might have given it more credit than it deserved. I enjoyed it at the time, but I wonder how much staying power it will turn out to have. I still enjoy all the first three ones, I'll have to see whether that holds true after seeing this one for the 8th time.

Saw this today (I got somebody who takes me to the movies now, wtf), it was OK. Mephisto's review was pretty accurate...
It's watchable and quite funny due to what Jack Sparrow is doing, but otherwise nothing special. I'd say it's on par with the 3rd, although 3rd was a little more eerie/mysterious.
The whole priest storyline was kinda random though.
I watched this today. That mermaid chick Syrena was HOT. Overall I enjoyed the movie more than I thought I would. As for the ending, they didn't really leave any clues that would make a worthwhile story for the next one in my opinion.
It was good for what it was. I enjoyed it albeit the fact that it was slow, predictable, and long. I kinda hoped to see some other characters and other certain things, but it wasn't bad at all. The scene with the mermaids I really liked, and the ending was good and funny. You should see it if you have a few extra bucks.
I saw it too and came to the same conclusion, the beginning was like OK we've been here before, it didn't really pick up until Blackbeard came on the scene. I can't recall the actors name but he sure did play the hell out of that role. All in all worth the watch.
There should have been more mermaids in the spotlight i say. I could only take a good look at two of them...

Watched it last weekend after the Rose Festival. It was sweet. Hated the mermaid chick. I hate the cliche romances between mermaids and humans. But everything else was pretty cool. Definitely worth watching.

They should have just cut out the Spanish...

Last time I saw you your grammar was considerably worse and Carloseus was "training" you. That was weird...
And don't you worry, I'll outlive this site

Haven't seen it yet but I believe it is Ian McShane? He's a really good actor.
