It would be stupid to remove MF from gear, even in the long run. What will a fresh 60 do in Inferno without any MF gear? What if its the first character a dude has taken to Inferno? Makes no sense at all to completely remove it, a lot of people will still need MF/GF to improve.
I was a little meh on the whole paragon thing, but now that I've seen the exp requirements, I think the system is just and serves its purpose. I for one don't plan on leveling to 100, but I will enjoy the effects on any paragon level I'm able to get. I never even tried going to 99 in D2, I just stopped whenever I achieved complete and utter faceroll.
What Jay meant to say: "We know you all wanted to work on leveling to 99 while looking for lootz, but we dropped that ball. So here's 100 more levels for you! Also, we have no earthly idea how the team at Blizzard North made their magic find system work so flawlessly, so here's some MF with those levels, so we can remove MF from items, because we are clueless of how to make it work."
Don't get my wrong btw, I'm looking forward to the changes and I think they were great.
Just pointing out something I feel will happen, because if someone didn't like the gameplay before, it's very likely they still won't like it after the patch.
I could be dead wrong, though. With all the changes to skills, monsters, legendaries... there's a lot new things to see in 1.0.4.

I'm looking forward to giving it a try. If it's not improved, I'll just quit and won't buy the expansion. I WANT Diablo 3 to be a good game. I want it to take 10 years from my life like D2 did. I'm not sure it can meet that expectation.
That said, I'm getting tired of watching Blizzard beat around the bush and make cover-up statements for their mistakes.
They said getting to Paragon level 100 will take roughly the same amount of time that it did to get to level 99 in Diablo 2. How many of you have level 99s?

The D2 magic find system was far from perfect for a very long time. There was even a bug untill 1.08 fixed it where the MF system would punish you for having over 149% MF.
Honestly it feels like everyone who posts that D2 was so much better in so many ways tends to forget that it wasn't like that at the start.
Addition: Looking back at patch notes, Magic Find might not have even worked on chests and items found by barbarians with their find item skill. It's funny the things we forget.
Know what would be an awesome gold sink?
When you die you loose durability AND % exp, like in D2.
But alas, you can pay a fee for that not to happen...
With the reveal of the paragon system they created a cap of 300% MF. Which is obtainable at level 100 paragon. So Magic find on gear I now believe is just a worthless stat. I imagine it will take about 30-45 hours TOPS to get to level 100 Paragon. Which is obtainable easily in less than a week. Unless someone has some other information, I believe it will be the end of magic find.
Thoughts?
<3 Nimo
seems to not remember or has never played/leveled a charater to 99 in d2 haha
Thinking about it, the couple hundred extra base stats will be nice, but hardly a major effect. Really, getting to Paragon 100 will have almost zero net effect on playstyle... other than the MF. I like this solution.

It's funny how Diablo 2 was released June 29, 2000.Diablo 2: LoD was released June 27, 2001. Diablo 3 was release May 15, 2012.
That the same (or similar) "issues" exist at the release of the game, 11 years later, is laughable. It shows a lack of experience with the genre. Look, if I knew that 11 years ago we put out a game that had "X, Y, and Z" problems, the last thing I would do would be to reproduce "X, Y, and Z" problems.
You mention the "MF fix" with the diminishing returns and what-not. Let me ask you, if you knew that before the MF fix there was a problem, necessitating a fix, then why would you re-create that problem on purpose? It's asinine.
It's like saying you know movies were in black and white when they first came out, but we learned how to make them color, so we went back to black and white on purpose, only to turn right around and put it into color.
30-45 hours tops? Did you not read the reference that it would take about the same time to reach 100 paragon as it did to reach 99 in Diablo 2? Did you even PLAY diablo 2? Do you have any idea how many hours it took to get to level 99? Are you completely daft? Sorry, it just astounds me that you assume it will take 45 hours maximum. If I could get my D2 character to level 99 in 45 hours I'd be a God.
It will take long to get to level 100, of that I'm damn sure.

Flawlessly? OMFG just go and head on back to D2 already.
This is a major win for guys like me who never bothered with MF suit. I was always hoping for a system that nullifies the need of mf gear.
Same here. And I doubt it will take a short time to reach the cap. Did you see the estimates? 1 frickin' million (!) Inferno Phasebeasts.
On the other hand, +Exp gear is suddenly going to become veeeeeery popular...

I'm sure you are going to tell what what was so bad about it. I'll wait...

You're expecting a new game to be free of flaws as if it was just an expansion. Often times new games that have new engines and possibly even new teams are going to run into some problems. The tech is different and the overal philosophical design is different. For some this is a good thing, for others this is a bad thing, but the for 90% of new games come out they do not release 100% of the features a previous game (with expansions) had because then they'd have nothing new to add at that point. It's also a lot of content to put in and Blizzard already removed some features because the time didn't exist to put everything in. There comes a point when you have to say "okay, that's enough stuff, we have to move on. we can add more later".
I'm going to admit I'm a little confused as to what problems exist now that existed then? As far as I'm aware, most of the 'issues' that D3 tries to fix from D2 were taken care of (this is independant of anyone's thoughts that these issues should have been fixed in the first place). The only reccuring issues I see are the complaints of lack of end game (which people said the same thing about D2 pre-expaion + patches) and lack of interesting items (which is more of a new issue, though some say the same thing happened in pre-xpack D2).
The MF issue in D3 is a completely different one from D2, the D2 system was actively broken and not working correctly. This proposed D3 system is designed to give players something to work for in order to remove MF gear so they don't feel they NEED to keep swapping gear. It's also a long term goal for players to reach much like the lvl 99 system. Honestly I didn't think D3 needed to have an excess of levels like D2 did, but I recognize that some gamers love that kind of grind and I see no reason not to have it even if I don't plan on ever hitting the cap.
I'm not going to call D3 perfect, but I still love the game. I just think that anytime someone calls D2 perfect they need to realize this was after about 11 years of additional dev time ON TOP OF the original game development time. (11 years of patches + xpack does not equal 11 years of game development time) and even then the game was not perfect, but it was damn good for its time.
I am a bit sad they are transitioning away from item-based MF. It's one of the big reasons I enjoy the item-hunt... and generally just have fun finding items with high MF/GF.

Yeah, damn the company that'll make me swap out my gear around the new year!
Your gear is awful! Sell sell sell sell!
That way I can buy it and have MF gear. Thank you.

Yeah. Good luck with that. The paragon levels is most perverse grinding system I've ever seen.
