I just bought new boots.. for 12 million gold - they are awesome.. but the excitement I got from clicking "buy now" was lackluster to say the least..
Really, what excitement did you get when you traded a handful of SoJs for a Vamp Gaze? I don't know about you but I wasn't exactly amped up to complete a trade in D2. It felt like... a transaction.
I earned currency in D2, just like I do in D3. Sometimes I cash in that currency to get an item that will help me out. The only difference for me is that in D3 everything is streamlined and I get to make more interesting "financial" decisions like bid or buyout, I get to shop around for deals, and I get to monetize items that I never would have in D2 because it was impossible to work in fractions of PSkulls.
And I get to do all of this without having to stare at the chat window for periods of time and hope I didn't miss a buy/sell advert. It's hardly a perfect system, but every single thing about it allows me to accomplish the same things I did in D2 but in a much more streamlined manner for both buying and selling wares.
@poletaria
If i could take back using the AH i would. I didnt forsee myself hating it as much as i do. But no, i hate the AH, not my inability not to use it. You can say all you want its just a more convenient way to trade, and its better than trading in D2 was (a theory i held and defended prelaunch). But, at the end of the day, i played TONS of D2 and many many hours now of D3.. and i never had the feeling of "absolutely zero chance" of finding an item i wanted in D2.. maybe the patch will adress that.
So.. your opinion is that the AH works.. i respect that, mine is that the ease at which you can buy godlike items is a major factor in what is holding D3 back right now.
Ohh.. and what compeled me to buy them (the boots) is because the game naturally causes you to go to the AH for items.. saying "so why use the AH?" Is like asking a democrat "whyd you take that Bush tax rebate? You voted against it".
Sounds completly fake. BoE? HAHA! And Levels of Excellence are stolen from Kripps Video lolz!
This Legendary every 500 Kills is a joke. The Top 1000 in Elite-Kills are ALL BOTS! If Blizzard doesn't stop the Bots the system is a Joke and would make D3 even more broken.
bots farm in hell, not inferno. sure they get NV stacks, but they wouldn't get level of excellence.
This would be kinda cool (even though this was just a hoax), I think people bot Act 1 Inferno with little difficulty- with 400 resist or so you are practically untouchable in A1, not a hard number to get. Bots are gonna bot anyways, if you make loot more attainable, botting becomes a lot less profitable.

1) If by finding an item you want, do you mean an item with a different coloring? Legendaries don't drop a lot, and I've seen way more uniques in D2 than Legendaries in D3. I've only ever seen one drop. But rares are abundant. Diablo is about randomness, and Diablo 3 is as random if not more random than D2.
2) You could easily find godlike items in D2... trade channels, trade games, parking lots where you could follow people who drop traded and steal their items (that was fun). And that's not mentioning d2jsp or whatever it was called.
3) The game doesn't cause you to do anything. You choose what you want to do. Die over and over? Fine, do it. Don't touch the auction house? Good on ya. Check the auction house every 15 minutes? Sure, why not.
I've used the auction house a bunch of times. It feels good to find a really good item on the AH, but it feels even better IDing my own item. Will that stop me from using the AH? No, because I can do both and still enjoy the game.
TL;DR: If you don't like it, then don't use it. Trading is trading, no matter whether there is a built-in UI for it or not.

When I grow up, I want to be a frill-necked lizard.
i agree this stuff sounds fake because of the quote saying that mf gear is to be relevant for the legendary drop. it should not be relevant because, as you know, the mf only affects the amount of legendaries, 7affix, 6 affixes and so on that drops. so when the premise is that a legendary will indeed drop, mf is irrelevant.
edit: i may be wrong here, i just noticed that for example the helm of command has like 5 to 7 affixes. i thought that legendaries was just the same as a 8affix rare with a different color (and some different stats). but if the helm of command can have 5, 6 or 7 affixes then maybe mf affects this. i dont know then
However - if this is true - in the Longterm, Diablo really is dead. BoE?? Really? The AH will have finaly dealt a death blow to the game if they go the BoE route..
I'd expect that BoE only applies to the LoE legendaries, because their are kind of a personal bonus. And I would be fine with, if I dont like the item anymore, I just salvage it... it can result in some money to be made.

1: I'll admit, part of my complaint likely lies with the fact I play a Monk - which means basically any piece of gear requires 35+ Fire Resists (my chosen resist) and 35+ All Resisit as a pre-req to be good, usable for me. I found a nice pair of boots when I first hit act 3 that had Fire, AR, Speed and Dex - but they were no where near the level of my current (purchased) boots. Every piece I have is purchased from the AH now, and I have never found anything even close in all my hours of playing. I've found good stuff, maybe for a Wizard, or for a Demon Hunter, but not for a Monk.
2: Yes, you could, but it required more effort (so alot of people just didn't bother) and you didn't feel like the game was designed to make you search for trade games. In D3, I feel like its meant to be used as your primary way to find new gear.
3: Your right in a way - which is why I have started fresh characters on EU realm which will not use the AH at all, as I said in my origianl post, had I known how much I would detest the AH, I would have tried hard not to use it to start with. But I still say people who say "if you dont like it dont use it" had/have a really valid point when it comes to the RMAH, but not the Gold AH - its there, and you'd be a fool not to use it - all I'm saying is that this is the first game of this type where finding your own gear out in the world felt secondary to browsing an Auction House..
Despite my major dislike for the AH - I still like D3. I play it ALOT even still. I am looking forward to the patch. I just think that the AH was a good idea that has made the game worse. Thats my opinion.
OK GUYS if this is fake, then what are the new datamined exp bars and prestige icons for?
The two most likely scenarios are:
1. Killing monsters (or maybe just elites) levels up a post-60 XP bar, which levels up some MF+GF metastat that will almost certainly have a cap (probably something nice and even like 50). Capping it will be comparable in time and effort to getting to level 95 in D3. Every level will give a small bonus to MF+GF so that the capped total is of the order of 100-200.
2. They're leftover assets from an idea Blizzard tried, but couldn't get working before 1.04's intended ship date. They left it in because it's a work in progress and might show up fully-formed in a later patch.
Personally, I don't care, because I'm too broke to do any kind of MF-based market speculation, and too patient to not be able to wait until the patch actually ships.
Edit: Oh, and BoE is not in the game in any form. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what BoE is.
If all Legendaries will be BoE, That's pretty cool - leaving a market for infinitly traded Rares, and letting Legendaries remain fairly unique(not flooding market with them).
Sounds completly fake. BoE? HAHA! And Levels of Excellence are stolen from Kripps Video lolz!

Helm of Command has +vitality, +block chance, and 4 random affixes. So it always has 6 affixes.
However bear in mind that 6 affixes doesn't always mean 6 stats. You could get 7 stats if for example one of the random affixes was "Vicious" (+strength and +dexterity) and the other three were different.
On the other hand, if you got "Vicious", "of Assault" (+strength), "of Pain" (+dexterity) and one other, you'd only have 5 stats visible on the item. Just that +strength and +dexterity would both be rather high values.
I'd be all for this. I don't understand the hate about the BoE, though. This guaranteed legendary drop would benefit all the people saying they don't get legendary drops and wouldn't crush the economy because it would BoE. It would still keep the value of godly legendaries high so everything that you found in normal farming could still be sold.
As someone who spent a hell of a lot of time and gold getting MF into their normal gear, I love the idea of having a penalty for swapping.
Hoax or not, I would agree with these changes. I would like to see the elite kills have to be Inferno kills, though.
However... because of the next Inferno nerf and the drop rates being pumped up, this probably won't make a difference because we'll all be drowning in loot.
To add... most bots that I've ever seen farm NM and Hell. They are gold bots and just get the high elite kills from nuking the rooms.
Another add... legendaries do drop if you have a high MF. I found 3 legendaries and a set piece over the weekend. That puts me at 30 legendaries and 6 set pieces, and 1 JC plan. I didn't find my first one until hour 160, so all of those have come in a little over 140 hours.
I'm fine with BoE as long as we get to see more legendaries because even with my MF DH I haven't seen many of them (saw 3 total with over 250~ hours played).
Valor points has merit in that you are always working towards something. Rather than hoping for some upgrade that might never happen. I kind of like the idea for that reason.
I'd much prefer some sort of item combining option though, where you can swap stats between items for a hefty gold price and let you create items like that.
Sounds extremely fake to me. BoE items? That would create a mess on the AH. Do I buy the BoE legendary or spend a bit more and get one that isn't. Guaranteed legendaries? That's a system waiting to be exploited. Let's smash through Act 1 until we get close to 500 and then kill ONE pack in Act 3 to get a good legendary. This would be the most fail system ever if it's actually their idea. I don't think Blizzard is that stupid.
Regardless of whatever "new MF" scheme that is put into place, MF will still have its place. At about 11.5K elite kills and I want to say I have found a couple of dozen Legendary items at this point. I know it is RNG, but wearing the 350 MF(with stacks) and farming Act2 is not impossible by any means. So, long and short, whatever they change (short of taking MF out of the game) will benefit me and many like me who farm with full MF gear all the time.
The only downside I see to this is, if my elite kills counter would be reset if I find a Legendary BEFORE the 500th kill. HAHA I want my cake and eat it too.
I will be surprised if they make the new Legendary items BoE, but anything is possible.
