But there is no encryption of the physical copy. So I can install right once I get home. And I might even be able to play on one of the other regions while waiting for the US servers to go up. But don't trust me on that last part. I am not even sure if you can play on another region early with the physical copy.
Hate to burst your bubble, but physical copies are encrypted by Blizzard as well. Otherwise the story would be public by now. People who got their SC2 copies earlier than release day can attest to that
I know nothing of these SC2 copies being sent earlier. So I can not attest to such a thing. But explain to me why Blizzard WOULD encrypt the physical copies when the majority will be bought after the servers go live? It makes more sense to leave them unencrypted so that you don't waste disc space. Plus you have to login to a realm server to play the game so the encryption would not do much. Obviously that is a different matter with the Digital because people would have time to hack it and play early.

I don't always burn. But when I do, I use hellfire.
guys guys guys. the whole point of blizzard making diablo 3 entirely online is so that they can control who goes online when. if you get the physical copy early, sure, you can probably install the full client before people with digital downloads, but you wont be able to get online or play the game at ALL because you cant log on!
now, quit arguing please and just post stuff to distract me from the clock
All I'm saying is that it is highly likely that when you click INSTALL on your physical copy, the game will ping the server to see if it is online.

well you can prob install the game without internet access, so i doubt it requires a ping to just install the client, even unencrypted. But honestly, your guess is as good as mine because its not like i know something you dont haha

Because if they allow people to fully install the game prior to release, then those people can access the data files and release all sorts of information before the game is released. All they have to do is include a very small program that checks the server status prior to install.
You're both wrong. Baishok told me otherwise. You can install the game before the launch, and trying to log in will give you a message. In effect, you're arguing with what a blue told me, so I'm just leaving it at that.
I'm one of those people who had the SCII disk before release. You could install the game, but not log in.
Generally the sort of claim you follow with a source.
And you aren't? I quoted a Blue?
The disc isn't encrypted. I have my Starcraft 2 disc in my disc drive right here. It's isn't encrypted. I don't think you know what encryption is. I have presented you with a literal mountain of anecdotal and direct evidence. If that's not enough for you, you're trying to disagree, just because you have a problem with being wrong, or something.
Again, people who have the discs already have cracked the release, and there's even an emulator program you can use to spoof monster stat-server. As in, the entire game is available on TheStealin'Bay, and you can download it and play it in full specifically because the discs weren't encrypted. If they were nobody would be able to data-mine any information at all because the data would be encrypted.
We already have datamined info that describes every boss, every area, and the secret area included in the game. The catch being, that since without Blizz servers to supply the tables, you can't play. As such, nobody knows if the secret cow level's function titles are a joke or... serious; for example. I hope they're serious, because that would be hilarious. Murdering them, that is. Excellent idea.
You do not understand what encryption is. If the disc was encrypted it would take easily twice as long to install. The bar you watch the installer go through is purely the time needed to spend unpacking the data and copying it. If you added decryption on top of that people with slower system would be looking at five-six hour install times.
For the last time. The. Disc. Is. Not. Encrypted. Stop trying to argue, you're making a fool of yourself.
yeah but at least you get a good 7 hours of gaming in before you start to eat into your sleep time
That is a plus. Ive been super hyped and counting down the days until i can play so when i got the news we cant play till 5pm all thats been running through my head has been "im being delayed by 17 hours from when i was meant to be allowed to start playing" haha

I didn't say anything about Starcraft. All I said was that it was possible that they wouldn't let you completely install the game prior to server unlocks. I could be wrong, I might not be wrong. Also, the quote you said came from before they announced a staggered release so something may have changed prior to the printing of the disks. He implied earlier in the thread that everyone would play at midnight, which we know now is not the case. Stuff changes.
And also, where's your source on the game already being leaked and people playing through an empty Act 4? Seems like that would have been bigger news.
I live on Guam, so I'll have the disc for more than half a day than most of y'all, Heyoooo!
But... then I won't be able to do anything....
Good thing I have cramming for finals to keep me busy. :'(

Or they could put a restriction on the installer to check the server status. Much like Steam does for their unlocks. The other dude was talking about encrypting the disk.
It's not the kind of news that makes headlines bro, it's kindof illegal. Are you too stupid to go look for yourself? I can't show you, it would get me banned.
Are you all literally mentally handicapped? You can install the game off the disc the moment it hits the tray. When you try to log in, it will tell you the servers aren't open yet.
I literally cannot believe you people are sitting here claiming these discs are encrypted when they aren't. Are you looking at the files on your Starcraft or Frozen Throne disc right now? No? I am. They aren't encrypted. Period. End of story, admit you are wrong.
Unless you're saying they would subject people with low end systems to six-hour install times. Yeah,t hat seems like a smart marketing decision a 15billion dollar media conglomerate would make.

No need for insults, bro. I have looked... and I see NOTHING about a full retail client being datamined. Only the stuff from the Beta. And the file on TPB is the same thing that I downloaded from B.net.

i feel ya... thats how i felt the ENTIRE beta... didnt get an invite, turns out i was behind on my OS update so i was never eligible :((((

You're not that smart then, that's all there is to it douche. The game isn't breaking the standards of every Blizz release before it. You have not produced any anecdotal or direct evidence, I have blue quotes strongly implying I am right. Deal with it, you have a problem. The disc isn't encrypted.

Send me a PM then. Or send it to clawixp@yahoo.com.
But you could just be making it all up.
I never said anything about disk encryption. All I said was there might be a time lock on the installer. No need to throw personal insults.
I am insulted by you people having an obnoxious need to turn everything into an argument instead of just assuming priori.
And there we have the problem with people who don't understand the modern contextual basis of threaded forums. If I was addressing encryption, I was replying to whoever was claiming the disc would be encrypted, those comments were not contextually directed at you.

Unfortunately when you quote my posts and then use the word "you", you're generally speaking about me.
My logic is simple:
Blizzard doesn't want their whole client datamined prior to release. They know that people will get the retail early, possibly up to a week. If they allow a full install, then they defeat their own plan of keeping everything a secret. All they have to do is include a simple time lock on the installer that pings their servers and checks the time and status. There is zero information about a datamined retail client.

We play on the NA servers so we have to wait until 5pm our time on the 15th... tell me that isnt going to be a hell of a day to get through!
