The problem is, the dev team has said, swapping that "1 attribute" WILL effect you in a noticeable way.
Until we get to end game inferno, we cant give a true value to what we are losing, while gaining that MF
I was shocked about this move myself, at first, it sounded kind of odd, basicly losing your MF when joining a game with others that don't have as much. But the reasons they gave were good, as long as they hold true.
Really not going to judge this until we see it in action in inferno, and see what losing those stats truly does
So if it that one attribute does affect you so much, then doesn't that mean your team isn't going to be able to win anyway?
We don't know. Thats the thing.
If three other people are stacked and ready for killing (stacked for dps), and you come in with loads of MF, your going to be worthless compared to them.
You're looking at "just 1 attribute" which we know down right thats not what people are going to do. (they are going to stack MF like crazy)
You are becoming weaker to get more loot, when you join a public game, if your not going to be putting the same output because you want more loot, then the group is going to get some of that loot now for carrying you.
Your point of low gear is another matter. If they are low enough gear were they can not perform well, they need to go back to hell (that still sounds funny to say =) )
I just think until we see how it truly plays out in inferno, and see how losing those affixs for magic find truly effects inferno performance.
if i want to go all MF i will go all MF <.< i don't want to share my awesome 200 magic find (that gimps me!) whit other people, this way i'm at 50%, but gimped as if i had 200%
why not split ALL STATS in the game the same way?!?!?? <.< omg this is so silly
You cannot compare it to other stats like that. MF and GF effect what drops where as other stats effect how you perform as part of the team. in essence you already do share the other stats because your all fighting the same enemies. If you don't want to share your magic find with them then why should they share their strength with you?
If MF is not shared
person one --> no MF but tons of other stat boosting gear
person two --> tons of MF but lacks other stat boosting gear because of it
Person accounts for most of the damage but person two reaps much better drops
Do you not see a problem with that?

Exactly. You don't want others to mooch off your MF, but you're perfectly comfortable mooching off their DPS. I don't get that.
I still disagree that a single attribute is going to make all the difference in being able to kill shit even in inferno.
What are all the attribute can you have on a character?
What others are there that really affect how you kill mobs?
You can already get rares in the beta that have as many as 6 attributes, and that's stuff for level 1-8 roughly
So MF is a single affix that's going to be powerful enough that you'd play solo to avoid sharing it, but no other affix you could have in it's place is powerful enough that you'll be contributing less to the group by stacking MF instead?

I don't know if its possible but wouldn't there be a way to quick swap gear a la D2 or WoW just before the killing blow to jack up the MF? would diffuse the whole topic

Jeez, so many people don't like the D2 MF system, even though that's where MF was invented...
I'm not sure what you mean by this. In D2, your MF is inherently shared because drops are shared, assuming you are fighting as a group. If you have +1000% MF in D2 and a Windforce drops off of your kill in a party, there's absolutely no guarantee that you'll be the one to get the item.

If it was every man for himself, people would just load up on MF and let groups do all the killing for them while they get alot of gear (insert chinese farmer/leech jokes here)
With this system, if they are in all MF gear leeching from you, you get to share in all their MF.. it balances out.. its really a genious system if you ask me.
Jeez, so many people don't like the D2 MF system, even though that's where MF was invented...
D2 MF was garbage, having the same loot drop and having 8 people(if they are in the same area) try and grab it before you was really annoying in public games. Now when stuff dies you don't need to get the "KILLING BLOW" because MF and GF are shared and we all have our own individual drops.
TBH if you are that selfish of a person then just group with other people with high MF or play with your friends... Stop trying to have the game changed cause you're a loot wh%$e who doesn't want to share...
I understand that the system is supposed to encourage you to build non-MF characters, but it all it does to me is encourage me to play by my singleplayer.
Am I the only one?
It's actually the reverse of socialism. If you are allowed to have your full MF in a multiplayer game, you are really mooching off the work of others, benefiting but not carrying your load of the damage.
I like the mf sharing, as much as I liked the dps sharing, you don't want to share the mf? Then stack it and kill your own monsters.
Bigger point is... Everyone who complains about shared mf automatically assumes that THEY are the ones that are going to be leet stacked with %5023445 MF and everyone will steal from them, if MF stacking still leaves chars viable, who says YOU aren't going to be the one bringing someone else down? On average, it will be a balance, unless you're stacking so much that your char sucks.
Everyone playing in Inferno (read - everyone playing where MF will matter) should have some idea of what they're doing with their stats. If you can't trust other people to stat themselves then you shouldn't play with them.
I don't see why there's an issue. If you were really only using 1 or 2 items for MF then it wouldn't be a large difference to begin with being my first point, and the second being if you are playing with friends they're more likely to find things for you also, and also opens up the potential of having someone lag behind in safety carrying unreal amounts of MF while supporting the team if they so desired being my second and third points.
If the system were different than it is now, that'd just be one more reason for me to never consider playing in public quests, as if I needed yet another reason. That being my fourth point.
It really doesn't bother me. If i have high mf then sure someone is raising theirs by lowering mine. But chances are i am mooching off their higher dps and kill rate.
seems to hinder magic finding in public games
In a average case the mfer will contribute less in killing/surviving while losing mf, considering all 4 have same number of affixes. in extreme case you could have n affixes, one being mf, and your party n/2 affixes (barely enough), you would still lose mf while not hindering the group's dps
or
you have crap gear to max mf, while your group can´t 3man a 4man game
On a side note: anyone knows how exactly mf works, as in what does 90% mf means for the game?

BWHAHAH i prefer to call it "UNIVERSAL MAGIC FIND".... sorry had to do that...
BUT all jokes aside there's definitely going to be a magic find to damage to survival stat ratio that is optimal... so... eh it'll all balance out... if no one has magic find you'll just plow through crap easier.. nbd... not to mention the Valor buff thing... I'm quite sure that's going to be a sizable chunk and it will help alleviate some of that.
I'm sure the hip thing to do once you're farming inferno will be to advertise your magicfind/dps/etc stats
On a side note: anyone knows how exactly mf works, as in what does 90% mf means for the game?
The exact wording is as it was in D2 "10% Better Chance to Finding Magical Items", which means exactly what it says. If you have an item that has a 0.003% chance of dropping and you have, say 50% MF, your total chance would be:
The only way to play with others as a Magic Find whore is to find 3 other Magic Find whores to play with...
Could you not play with 3 kill rate characters and one uber stacked magic find whore in the background laying down some support/defensive(utility) skills or something which doesn't require high stats?
