Yeah I was just curious to see the difference between set numbers and % weapon damage. Seems like a great change.
Also, so it seems like the DH is half Monk now. An interesting change - initially it seems like the Hatred generators don't generate enough and the Hatred spenders cost too much (I imagine Hatred doesn't regen by itself anymore). Looking forward to seeing what the testers have to say about the changes.
So when it is based on weapon damage, does it count modifiers from other items? For example, if a belt increases attack damage, does that also mean the spell damage will increase?

Yes, but this was always the case.
From the beginning they had the attack stat boost spell power as well.
That is just...lame. They should reverse that change. Casters shouldn't have to rely on weapon damage.
I agree, but at the same time I don't know what else it would scale with that would make sense.
Exactly, so the weapon damage DOES make sense, because there are no 'caster' swords compared to melee swords, so a wiz and a barb could use the same sword now, and it will boost both of their attacks. Makes picking items to use even better =D
While changing the DH's skills around, it seems they've changed much, much more.
Most WD and Wiz skills now use weapon damage instead of flat damage that increases with level.
Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to rebuild
and rapid fire!
Edit: Of course, as soon as they patch it next. Nothing will change 'til then.

Fixed it for you, get with the times!
But on topic, no 404 for me.

Fingers crossed!

While I see where you're coming from, I think it's important to note that some wands have pretty good damage at high levels.
Take this wand for example: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/fragment-of-destiny
165 DPS, which is definitely lower than a lot of weapons. But it makes up for it with the 81-171% more damage for wiz only.
Not to mention the other % to damage for wiz that you'll get with the orbs.
I'm confident that Blizzard will balance whatever needs balancing.

Meteor is now 450% of weapon damage(255 DPS Staff) as opposed to ~300-500 damage that it used to be.
Things people need to remember about spells like these:
450% of weapon damage does not equal 450% of DPS.
If a 255 DPS staff has an attack speed of .65 or something than the damage can be less than expected if you were to multiplying by DPS
(I know this happens to be the case where the attack speed is 1 so... i'll shut up )
This really gets me thinking...are wands/orbs even going to considered by Wizards if spell damage is based off your weapon?
Staff = 255 damage every 1.0 seconds
Wand = ~137 damage every 1.2 seconds
Seems like spells would just be much more powerful when using a staff.
