Drawing from my 5 years of nothing but rogues in WoW, Demon Hunter — in my head, at least — is going to draw the "PHWOAR COOL!" little kids (like rogues did) and make DH's just look... Bad. Then, they'll realize that the DH is not the 'faceroll the room' hero they were looking for and try the Monk because they are powerhouses (from what my buddy said when he sampled them at Blizzcon) and are extremely flashy with their moves.
Don't get me wrong, the class that is both strong and durable will take the cake. I don't think I knew anyone personally who was serious about D2 and didn't have a Hammerdin. Should Monk that class, then that's grand. On top of that I am sure if there is another class aside from the DH that just does the whole monster killing gig better, I'll have one. Wizard or Barbarian really stick in my head though. Though the other classes draw from the D2 counterparts, they seem the most accessible/familiar.
(*Should any of the above come across as 'class hate', I apologize. Not looking to downplay a class because it plays pretty.)
I voted demon hunter, assuming the perspective of someone who knows nothing about the game, starts it up and looks at the class selection screen. 'Cool' name/atmosphere etc etc.
If a class is overpowered that might shift things. Or maybe our demonhunter newbie who's previous gaming experience is farmville won't even know if a class is OP or not and just stick with the demonhunter until they quit the game at lvl 42.
I'd say the Wizard will be initially, simply because of perceptions from D2 and the Sorc being the top farming class. People are going to want to rush to the end and farm to take advantage of the RMAH craze at the start. I have strong suspicions that the Wizard won't be nearly as effected as the old Sorc was.
For myself though, I'll be playing a Witch Doctor. I was sold when I saw Firebomb in action.
Honestly, I think there will be a pretty even distribution after just a few weeks, maybe slightly leaning toward the barb at first because he's "recognizable" and comfortable for many people.
Personally the monk is my favorite and I have very little interest in the barb or demon hunter. My second character will likely be a wizard.
The fastest killer, when the top skill/rune build is figured it out, and one class outshines the others, this is the one class that everyone will make, guaranteed.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.

This will also likely be the first get nerfed to maintain balance.
Luckily people can switch skills without re-rolling these days and blizzard won't have to worry about making balancing changes nearly as much.
I think almost everyone will make a Demon Hunter at some point or another just because it has a "cool" name. You know... THOSE people.
This was basically my first thought when I heard the new class was Demon Hunter. I know a lot of people love the stealthy, rogue types as well as the hunter/marksmen type. This character will please a lot of people I think.
Can you give me the source where it says that teleport has a significant cooldown?
Because to me, the cooldown seems negligible e.g very low practically non existent, given what we've seen in videoes and interviews etc..
And further, even IF the cooldown is rather semi-long, teleportation is still a very viable skill compared to other travel spells from others classes. They might even up the range of the teleport, so compensate for the alleged cooldown.
I honestly couldn't tell you where I'm getting it from, but 8-10seconds sounds like something I heard. I think they added the CD specifically to avoid meph/baal runs, while still allowing amazing mobility in a "GTFO HERE!!!" kinda situation.
It was a joke making fun of Diablo 2 you know, and I think it's around 9 seconds (At least a few years ago) and I haven't heard anything new about it.
To be honest it doesn't really seem to matter. I think they're trying to reward people for doing more then just killing bosses. I have a feeling Dungeons are going to be were the drops are at now instead of just farming bosses like you used to.

And the eternal cycle(to find the next best killer) continues, but i can see people raging for dumping lvl7 runes just to get nerfed in the next patch.

This could be the cynic in me, but that's how the game goes for people rolling FotM. No, it's never fun to see your class nerfed, but if someone's going to go nuts and splurge for those level 7's one had best keep that possibility in mind.
I could also be missing the point entirely and just using the opportunity to take a shot at FotM rollers, in which case this could be safely ignored.

There will be an overflow of wizards, then they realize teleport has a cooldown, and the river of tears will begin!

This exactly.
Female DH is my first choice. Then Female Monk.
