Remember how in D2 when It first came out, your singleplayer characters could be used in multiplayer?
Your characters were saved on your computer, thats what made them hackable, and therefor Blizzard
made it to where you must now create characters that live server side..
I've been wondering, does anyone know for a fact, if our singleplayer characters will/can be used in Online multiplayer?
I was a fan of being able to work on my character without being online...
However, im certian that the character will be server side (to avoid hacking), but regardless I would still like to play singleplayer with my multiplayer characters.
Cheers.

I haven't read or seen anything saying if you can use the SP toon you create for multi-player. But with the way things are with D2 and the toons living server side it's a good possibility that it will be the same with D3 just for the case of hacking or using a third party software program to make them better.

Idk, with the new Battle.net (and as with SCII) you have to be connected at all times to the internet anyway, I don't see why it's not possible to have a character play on both SP and MP sides.

Also read Wintendo, as DINGBANG is attempting to play through 764 SNES games in a back catalog.
Except that would be the equivalent of playing D2 on battle.net in your own private game.
After the debacle that is the Borderlands hack-scape, I doubt Blizz will let us have MP and SP characters cross. It just makes it too hard to enforce anti-hacking laws.
Well, thats what im not sure about.
Blizzard made it impossible to hack items and other attributes of toons in D2.
With the new BN 2 coming out, it will probably be impossible to hack anything.
So why not do it?
I was mostly curious if anyone knew any info on this matter, but it seems like this has yet to come to light.
interesting.

For a time. After a while someone will find a way to hack it. Just like when 1.13 came out they were talking about trying to cut down and even eliminate add bots. But we see how well that worked. That and Baal bots. I say that in time after the game is released someone will come up with a hack for it.

That could only last for a time. It's easy to get around. A real person fills it out, then every time you log into Bnet they could just set the bot to run after logging in successfully. In theory it sounds good, but in practicality it won't work.

Yeah, but one of the things that made it impossible to hack was that the character was server side. I'm pretty sure I've seen guides to hacking SP characters, and I know I've seen guides to hacks for SP (and by that I mean mods that change the game radically, which is basically a hack).

Ya, I am aware of that.
I wonder how Blizzard will handle hackers, because personally I grow tired of them.
Bots, Spam...you think they would make this problem a PRIORITY for D3 and SC2.
I will be avidly looking at how this will turn out upon D3 release..whenever the hell that is lol. :wallbash:

They'll handle it like they did in SC2: Get rid of whatever the hackers ruined. The ad bots ruined chat? No more chat channels. They ruined characters by grinding? No more characters. Eventually they just release empty boxes, so the hackers and the TPPK'ers can't ruin the game for others.
I can guarantee that you won't be able to use an SP character on B.net. If there's going to be any transferring of characters at all, it will only be from MP > SP, not the other way around. You might be able to "clone" a B.net character for off-line play, but you wouldn't be able to transfer it back again.

Except that's not how it works. You can play the campaign and against the AI without being connected to B.net, but you can't get any achievements for it.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
With everybody having to sign into battle.net I don't think that this dilemma will even exist. I think that once you sign into battle.net, you will have an option to either create a room for solo play or there will be an option like the campaign mode for SC that will allow you to play off-line (again, after already signing in). However, I think that all characters will still be saved via their servers.

SC2 has an offline mode.

Well, yes. Sort of. You'll be able to sign in, and create a room for solo play, just like you can make games in SC2 and just place AI opponents in it, or how you can create a private game in D2 online.
But I'm sure that any character that gets saved to your HDD will only be for offline single player, ever. Not even for LAN, because they decided to stop LAN to stop pirates or some such.

Which would limit -ALL- possibilities of playing with friends on a modded game. If thats the way they go, they're not getting my money.

Sucks, don't it? Blizzard is going the lazy route, and to protect us/them from the few bad apples, they're punishing the rest of us.
How's about this. Blizz just says "we don't give a flying f***" about non-spammer/ad bots. Accounts/Characters will most certainly be attached to a B.Net account, which would probably stop people from selling characters leveled with grinding bots (as you can't trade a character without attaching CD Keys). The mf grinders would be hard to stop. The only thing I can think of is to track characters who get, then get rid of (for free/cheap), and temp ban accounts that do this on a constant basis. This could be done by perhaps following accounts/character that play a lot (yes, it will get some humans), and checking how often they get items over a certain level (I'm sure there is some easy means for the comp to rank items in terms of awesome), and how often they get rid of. As Blizz seems to be saying there will be a better way of trading then dropping crap on the ground, just keep a running log of how often a character picks up awesome items, holds them for a time (so you don't accidentally flag players who drop unwanted gear in town for other teammates to pick up), then drops them.
And since you can't make new accounts without a new CD key (which are probably more controlled then they used to be), this would probably go a long way to stemming bots.
If it didn't then they could also add in a piece of code that checks the comp for known botting software. Normally I'm opposed to software like this (when it blocks pirates), because A) it will eventually be gotten around, and it harms the legitimate users, without significantly improving their gaming experience. I for one would be perfectly happy if I had to shut down some software (uTorrent, peerblock, daemon tools, winamp, etc etc) if it meant that I wouldn't have to put up with the stupid ad bots.
