What kind of builds are you guys looking at making in RoS? Lightning? Fire? Ice? Black Ice? Shatter? Looks like Archon and CM are done and the race to find the new Best Builds is beginning ;-)
Since there is no up-to-date skill calculator, some of this may require some explanation:
Ray of Frost - Numb has a 15% chance to Freeze, plus an effective single target nuke.
Blizzard - Frozen Solid has a 25% Chance to Freeze plus stacks Cold Blooded on Everything
Frost Nova is 100% Freeze and some Defensive utility. Ironically, this skill is probably the first one you'd change for Diamond Skin.
Hydra casts "Frost Nova" (More on this later) and stacks damage on the mobs.
Familiar - Vigoron has been changed to "Icicle" Which has a 35% chance to Freeze enemies on attack.
Ice Armor has a chance to freeze attackers and adds a bit of AE DPS and some defensive utility.
Seems like a pretty standard build, but here's where it all gets interesting:
There's a legendary item that does this: Chance to shatter and instantly kill frozen enemies. So everytime you freeze enemies, it's a good shot of one hit kills. And there's a LOT of freezing going on.
Some other useful legendaries that really complement the theme are:
Unknown Legendary:Your Chill effects have a 50% chance to Freeze instead of Slow. Unknown Legendary: Ray of Frost now pierces
Unknown Legendary:Frost Hydra now periodically casts Frost Nova.
Legendary Wand: You may have one extra Hydra active at a time.
Or something more Traditional like a meteor or Frozen Orb sorc? What are you guys planning to try out? ;-)
The build focuses on casting waves of spells involving different elements to make the most out of Elemental Exposure. Living Lightning works in hand with Paralysis to keep a good amount of crowd control on mobs. Comet is the cold portion of the spell and also has a chance to freeze for bonus crowd control. Black Hole adds even more crowd control and is the arcane portion of the spell. Explosive Blast - Chain Reaction is fire based and adds to more DPS. A fire based Hydra can also be used instead. Time Warp adds to eDPS, but Force Weapon can also be used. Any armor spell can do, but I prefer Prismatic. The build is actually very flexible and can be built around different runes for different spells. Avoid multiple channeling spells.
Key 4: Energy Armor - Prismatic Armor/Pinpoint Armor or Storm Armor - Power of the Storm
Passives:
Paralysis
Dominance
Astral Presence
Glass Cannon or Cold Blooded (cold follower)
Single cast of Black Hole gives enough time to spam Meteors. Electrocute spam procs Paralysis enough to work with Meteor's Lightning Bind rune well enough to lock most mobs in place. Black Hole's cooldown is also good enough for frequent use (cooldown reduction gear would be great here). Dominance is pretty much mandatory right now for survivability. 20 APoC is enough to make this work (not sure if 30 is even possible anymore barring legacy wands or new, unknown legendary items). Current sample in the most recent Twitch recording. New videos potentially coming soon.
Key 4: Energy Armor - Prismatic Armor/Pinpoint Armor or Storm Armor - Power of the Storm
Passives:
Cold Blooded
Dominance
Astral Presence/Unwavering Will
Evocation
Black Hole's Absolute Zero boosts your next cold spell by 12% per enemy caught in the spell, which makes SS absolutely deadly. Archon is used specifically for elite packs. Arcane Destruction can potentially one-shot elites if your gear is high level enough. It's great for burst damage, otherwise Teleport can be used for increased survivability (cooldown is 3 seconds), or Improved for a whopping 60% increase to all damage. Evocation is used here specifically to make Archon available pretty often. Plays similarly to the current SS-Archon hybrid build. Low APS and 20 APoC is good enough.
Key 4: Energy Armor - Prismatic Armor/Pinpoint Armor or Storm Armor - Power of the Storm
Passives:
Arcane Dynamo
Dominance
Audacity
Unwavering Will
Arcane Dynamo no longer requires hits to trigger, so you can just spam Electrocute whenever to build up 5 stacks. Disintegrate still snapshots the stacks. You can spam Electrocute, throw out a buffed Black Hole, spam Electrocute while mobs are disabled, then channel Disintegrate continuously. Audacity (DPS boost within 15 yards range) and Unwavering Will (DPS/EHP boost while standing still for 2+ seconds) both increase the build's channeling potential. Running 1.77 APS with 20 APoC. Sample toward the end of the most recent stream recording. More videos in the future, maybe.
As seen in these builds, Teleport, Magic Weapon and Energy/Storm Armor are staples in most builds. It's hard to give them up in place of other spells. Teleport could be swapped for Mirror Image, but it's much easier to get into position with Teleport, which is much more important now given how hard mobs can hit in higher difficulties and how poor life sustain is.
Haven't really found a use for them yet other than the Frozen Storm rune, which adds a consistent AOE cold effect to trigger Cold Blooded. But it's kind of not needed if you're already running at least one other cold spell in your build (or running a cold follower). In addition, the utility of AP reduction in Storm Armor - Power of the Storm, or additional eDPS from Shocking Aspect, and the massive EHP boost on all levels for Energy Armor outclasses the melee reduction from Ice Armor.
I actually think Crystallize Ice armor is already on par with Prismatic armor. The armor boost brings Crystallize to about 0.5% less total mitigation than Prismatic (according to d3up) but Crystallize also includes an extra 12% melee and chance to freeze.
Key 4: Energy Armor - Prismatic Armor/Pinpoint Armor or Storm Armor - Power of the Storm
Passives:
Paralysis
Dominance
Astral Presence

Almost the same as mine, except I went with DS instead of Teleport, and Electrify instead of Force Weapon. Teleport may be superior...I think Electrify is better then Force Weapon with Paralysis.
What the heck is Dominance? I've never heard of this passive.

Agreed, Ice Armor is one of those pretty useless skills. Only Frozen Storm is competitive - But it's decent defensively and has a chance to freeze everything around you constantly(With that legendary) without picking up Blizzard. That's useful!
Edit: Found Dominance. Definitely the new mandatory passive...and makes Teleport superior to DS.
What the heck is Dominance? I've never heard of this passive.
Yeah, for higher difficulties, Dominance is the go-to passive.
You know what's funny? On the skill selection screen, Dominance is located where Critical Mass used to be
So, SUCH delicious irony. But we needed it; We mainly abused Critical Mass for Frost Nova/ Diamond Skin survivability. This should make a good substitute. It also DOES make Teleport superior to DS in most builds mainly because hopefully we'll already have a "absorb" shield up - and Teleport breaks Jailer/Waller and Helps with Frozen/Vortex.
Jaetch; Have you found an updated RoS skill calculator?
As a side note, I will be working on a short video showcasing the animation/effects of new spells, runes and passives.
Edit: As for Teleport, it's currently very buggy in the beta. It's not consistent. Sometimes you can Teleport past things, sometimes you can't. Hell, even a wooden chair can block you sometimes.

Guess what... Got my hands on such a legendary. Frostburn Gauntlets. I'd like to thank drjdredscythe for hooking me up during his stream tonight.
Here's the potentially broken wizard build, with chances to blind, freeze and stun constantly over and over and over again:
I'll likely be streaming this live tomorrow night so viewers can see its potential.

The build would be better with Electrify for more Paralysis stuns, even despite Cindercoat; I came up with a similar build too, but I had tagged the legendary that instantly killed Frozen enemies - yet unknown to me - that really, really broke the build - if it exists.
"ItemPassive_Unique_Ring_668_x1 - Chance to Shatter and Kill frozen enemies."
I actually run Ignite because it burns enemies, which makes the Conflagration passive work that much better (enemies that are hit by fire damage have increased chances of being critically hit).

Are you sure that's better then +more chance of stun and Elemental Exposure? You are running Fire, Ice, Arcane and Lightning damage types, aren't you?
That's why I'm so excited for RoS. There's much more flexibility and customization available here.
Still, I think they wiffed on Energy Twister and to a lesser extent Shock Pulse. Shock Pulse really should have been a Fire-type damage primary with some interesting runes. Arcane was covered by Magic Missile, Lightning by Electrocute, Fire by Shock Pulse, and a hybrid by Spectral Blades.

Nope. Just lightning, cold and fire. LL procs Paralysis often enough and I want the additional crit chance to blow things up with EB. It's already powerful enough to stun with LL, time chain Black Hole and Frost Nova, with periodic procs of blind, all while spamming EB nonstop and applying a steady burn to targets outside EB's range for more procs.
There's also one other thing. I can't tell if LL is triggering Electrify at all. Even if it does, it's really just Paralysis at a slightly longer range. 10% additional damage is negligible compared to the bonus 6% crit chance with Conflag (again, for targets outside of EB's range). Ignite's 32% additional damage over 3 seconds for all targets that get hit by an attack is hard to ignore. Haven't tried using Force Weapon for the flat damage boost.

Interesting. Your weapon is Arcane, and I thought - for some reason - weapon damages were added unto skills or something for elemental effects. That would be the full 20% more damage...if mobs live that long. Merc Weapon maybe? ;-)

Didn't realize it stacked like that with Cindercoat!
I want into Beta so bad. I'd sell my first, second, AND thirdborn children.

Looks like Jaetch went Elemental Exposure after all. But honestly it just doesn't feel good enough compared to compromises you have to make to get all four elements present.

Things to keep in mind: Liquefy is now Lightning damage, and LMB will be likely Black Hole (Event Horizon)
"Shatter"

Won't remove the cooldown on Frost Nova or Diamond Skin. CMWW is dead and gone.
