Skill Choices: Elemental Arrow (Frost Arrow) - Good single target and AoE damage with a nice slow component, and infinitely spammable with a slow weapon.
Smoke Screen (Breathe Deep) - Generates 40 hatred over 2 seconds, and makes you invisible for 2 seconds. This is your second line of defense should mobs somehow escape Caltrops, thus buying you precious time to place another Caltrops, or simply allow the mobs to wander back into the existing one.
Cluster Arrow (Loaded for Bear) - Does MASSIVE damage, 290% weapon damage in an area + 4 grenades that hit for 100% weapon damage each. This ability is very expensive, so you won't be able to fire it in rapid succession, but it can be interwoven between other abilities to allow multiple uses.
Spike Trap (Scatter) - Allows you to place all 3 traps simultaneously, thus doing 135% * 3 = 405% weapon damage in an 8 yard radius. The trap takes 1.2 seconds to arm, thus making accurately placing said trap a tad tricky. However, when used in conjunction with Caltrops the probability of success becomes an almost certainty.
(I am assuming this skillrune will generate 4 hatred, although there is a chance, albeit remote, that this rune would enable this skill to generate 12 hatred!)
Caltrops (Hooked Spines) - Multiple Caltrops can be placed consecutively, each providing an amazing slow, negative 80% movement speed. This in turn makes a near impenetrable wall between you and your enemies. When used in conjunction with Spike Trap and Cluster arrow, this ability forms an utter kill zone from which nothing can survive.
Passive Choices: Cull the Weak- +15% damage to slowed enemies. Elemental Arrow + Calrops should ensure most, if not all mobs being attacked are slowed, thus giving a large increase in damage output.
Steady Aim - As long as there are no mobs within 10 yards, all damage is increased by 20%. Calrops, which spans 12 yards, should ensure you maintain steady aim, thus yielding yet another large damage increase.
Custom Engineering - Doubles the duration of Caltrops from 6 seconds to 12 seconds. Also doubles the duration of spike trap, but we have no idea what their duration is, and ideally you want the traps to detonate ASAP regardless.
Weapon Choice: 2 Hand Crossbow - This build is designed around a slow weapon as hatred generation is rather low, and cluster arrow is very expensive. A slow weapon also allows you to alternate smoothly between spike traps and your other abilities.
The Templar skills were chosen to ensure maximum survivability for me and the Templar himself, with the exception of inspire. Inspire on the other hand is chosen to ensure you have adequate discipline for your various discipline skills.
Final Thoughts:
The synergy between Discipline skills and the hatred skills, heck even the follower just seems perfect. This build is beyond a shadow of a doubt the best build that I have ever come up with or seen. I was planning to play a wizard as my main, but I very well may switch that to Demon Hunter just for this build.

really cool, i just imagin using the skills.. will work fine, maybe change the primary Elemental Arrow (Frost Arrow) for rapid fire whit bombardment, because you alrdy have a great slow from caltrops.
This sounds like a solid build, but would have even more benifit in multiplayer. That slow is HUGE! What about Rain of Arrows (or whatever) instead of cluster arrow. Or using grenades as a hatred gen (I think custom eng gives a bonus too)?
edit: Scratch that, grenadier is the one, it gives a hatred gen boost to grenades, and a cost reduction of cluster arrow (plus a bomb on death - perfect for hardcore ). It may be an option to go for, since grenades is now a hatred gen, not spender.

Mystic, you should take Archery instead of cull the weak, and let me explain to you why.
once you get to Hell difficulty, you're going to be running into monsters that cant be slowed. Regardless if the target is slowed or not, you will be dealing 15% damage (if you use a bow).
I find this will be an improvement for you, if you dont want to use a bow, or you're gearing for other purposes (crit) use a crossbow or handbow.

Frost Arrow also adds an AoE slow component to the ability, thus granting it an additional15% dmg. One could also potentially make use of the slow to better place spike traps without the use of the Caltroups.
Now you could maybe argue to switch out cluster arrow for Bombardment, but one of the primary premises behind the build is to alternate between spike trap and your other abilities. You could still do this with rapid fire, however, you would have to continually pay the upfront 20 Hatred cost, thus drastically lowering the efficiency of the skill. Though I admit, the concept is intriguing given the damage of bombardment.

I was unaware of mobs that could not be slowed... Where did you see this? I can't even recall this happening in Diablo2.
I did consider archery, and the bow for the 15% dmg increase, and that could very well be a viable option. However, there is one HUGE problem with a bow, its very fast. On the item database they are listed from 1.4 to 1.6 APS. As a result this causes some problems,
#1 Faster Attacks means one consumes hatred faster. and this build has no spammable generators or an ability like prep.
#2 The synergy between alternating Spike Trap and other abilities could be lost.
#3 and most important, pure dmg. A slow weapon has very high damage, and this build is designed to unload a ton of damage quickly, thus consuming most if not all of ones hatred quickly.
There is also an additional problem with custom engineering, especially at higher difficulties. If you can't kill the mobs within 6 seconds, you have to waste time placing more Caltrops. Thus, you are not only wasting globals, but discipline that you would be better spent on smoke screen. So even though I would like to have yet another dmg multiplier, or even the +50% critical dmg, I just can't see giving up the extended duration of Caltrops in higher difficulties.
Though now that I think about it, the build doesn't seem to be lacking damage in the slightest anyways.

I would take Multishot with the "Supression" rune instead of Cluster Arrow for some resource regen since you have 3 discipline skills. You will want to use your discipline skills often since you only have 1 hatred generator. It should have really nice synenergy with Caltrops. You could even take that "Bombardment" if you wanted too now.
I agree that even with slows, that Archery is hands down just better than Cull the Weak. Even if you don't like bows and you are using crossbows instead, just get some more crit chance gear and you will continue to reap the rewards.

There is no point in 2 cheap hatred spenders.
The build uses 2 discipline skills, not 3. The companion won't go away.
His natural regen + templar yields 2 disc per second, way more than needed to simply use caltrops at the start and smoke screen from time to time. And this is using cluster arrow FFS.... What would he do with all the disc from suppression fire? Spam smoke screen, so what....he can have so much hatred he can't spam it away?
This is a legit build, that's kinda generatorless and kinda not. Ohh and I mean a real generatorless build, not like that fail thread that puts multishot in eveny single build and aims to maintain full hatred forever. Thats just stupid....you will likely spend just as much time running around, if not more, than actually fighting.
AS far as archery goes that doesnt really make much sense either. You are trading 15% wpn dmg for 15% wpn dmg....Yes one requres a slow, but the build has 2 spammable slows. However, by using a fast weapon you are going to do WAY WAY less dmg than a slow 2h. High cost abilities almost demand the use of a Slow weapon.
If the 2h Xbow is 1.1 speed, and the bow is 1.6, and they have the EXACT same dps. Then the Xbow will hit 45% harder!!! Which doesnt matter if you are using something like elemental arrow, which is spammable, because you are also attacking 45% faster. However, when you are blowing half your wad in one shot, than yah it better hit like a truck or its just a waste.
Sure you could maybe argue for the Archery + Crit Rating + 2h Xbow over Cull of the weak, but you would need to do some math and then intelligently look at the results. For example, maybe the additional crit dmg would just be complete overkill, thus gaining you nothing.

I assume the pet can die? Unlike the Wizards it doesn't say it can't be targeted or take damage? If im wrong fair enough.
I am not saying its not legit or rubbish or anything like that. I like the build, he posted here to get peoples thoughts and all I was doing was giving mine and posted something he could think about.
One couldn't sustain bombardment and Cluster arrow, that combination is just way too expensive. Also they do about the same thing massive dmg at a high cost.
When I think about builds, I always imagine "Hell" & "Inferno" difficulties being stupidly unfair & unforgiving. Smoke screen is primary a defensive cooldown, and while using it twice in quick succession right now would seem pointless and worthless. I can see it being it a big plus later on, not for the resource regen but for staying alive.
My personal preferance is Archery and as someone had already mentioned it I agreed with them. I wasn't trying to make it look like he had made a stupid choice. There will be times where you will be fighting big melee mobs and at the back are casters and summoners. Those are the mobs you want to kill ASAP but I doubt you will have them slowed since ur busy at the front. I think a passive buff is better than a situational buff which Cull the Weak is.
Yah you could spam those 2 abilities, but that video hardly proves that fact. Its just random clips thrown together in a version of the game we have no knowledge of. You don't need 2 cheap spammable abilities though, whats the point of that? Sure multi-shot might be better in some situations that elemental arrow, but is it worth it? Meh The idea behind the build was that it wasn't one of those terrible endless hatred builds, but one that actually spent hatred, but could still cast once depleted.
How is the buff situational? Elemental arrow has an aoe slow component which when spammed keeps the mobs permanently slowed, thus +15% dmg. And we already covered the fact that you won't use the bow for this build, so you would have to compare it to the +50% crit dmg.
No the pet can't die, its almost certainly not even hittable. Like spiders for WD, or the familiar for the wizard.
Lets say you have 34 disc. You cast caltrops -8, 4 seconds later you already have that back. Are you going to need to disappear 4 seconds in? Doubt it, but ok. 34 - 8 + 1 - 15 +1 + 2 - 15 = 0 disc There ya go, still possible to use it back to back.

My trapper. Higher mobility, more traps for burst damage. If spike traps work on the same cast frames as Caltrops (as in speed), then you should be able to lay 3 traps by just spamming the assigned key. I don't believe weapon speed affects the laying of traps (correct me if i'm wrong)
This build uses a melee 1h weapon with highest possible top end (probably maces or axes) and shield.
All skills use weapon speed, including traps. Sure you can lay 6 traps, but it takes 6* wpn speed to do it. If your perform 2 attacks per second, which is pretty damn fast, you can lay 2 traps per second. Thus it would take 3 seconds to lay all 6 traps. However, since they go off after 1.2 seconds you would never be able to lay all 6 down in combat. Well unless you just missed with a bunch, but lets assume that doesnt happen.
Anyways that means that the only time you could ever make use of placing all 6 traps would be at the very beginning of the fight before the monsters aggro onto you. Not exactly a speedy way to kill things, and this game has a tendency to throw mobs at you from unknown places.
Ohh and his build is way way way better! The only spender you have w/o a CD is impale...How are you going to kill things?

Well from my beta experience caltrops isnt based on speed, so testing when the game releases will tell all. if your point is the case I'll simply go with Lightning trap instead to have consistent damage that bounces to a lot of targets.
Also, traps + impale + Fan of knives should be more than adequate to kill any mobs.
I'm skilled enough to use this build to its potential. I'll be doing a lot more damage with my traps and impale than 1h xbow will do. Keep in mind I want to use a shield, so the argument of Bow / 2h xbow is covered.
It's all preference I guess, thus is the beauty of Diablo 3 skill system
so i tried my hand in making a trapper build that does a good amount of dmg with his discipline skills. its kinda nifty. id say with all his crazy moves in this build i also have a shitton of survivability. xD

This build has literally no way of generating hatred. Its probably because you haven't read patch notes and are uninformed. Maybe actually sift through all the text on the front page rather than the official notes. There are a metric ton of undocumented changes. Spike trap is now a hatred spender, no longer generates hatred and had its damage buffed substantially. There are many DHunter changes, as well as buffs nerfs to other classes that werent documented as well. It's like this every patch in the beta this isnt new.
The only reason I'm calling Glad out is because when patch 13 hit and mana costs for WD changed dramatically, one person didnt know about it literally the following day to the patch being released and he straight up insulted him for about 5 posts. If he can dish it then he can take it.

I find that pretty unlikely. Hilarious you try to lie to damage control, and then call me rude, when like I pointed out, I only said this BECAUSE it's something you have literally done to someone right when the previous patch came out.
I'd also like a reasonable explanation as to why a build based on a calculator that you know is outdated and incorrect is viable. Like, it has 0 way to generate your resource. Argue why you think thats viable with that knowledge. You insulted someone else for basing a build off an outdated skill calculator, but when you do it's fine? Sounds like some self serving damage control bullshit to me.
EDIT: oh right, that's because it is self serving damage control bullshit. You have to be the most arrogant demeaning cunt on this website and generally make the boards a terrible place for people to post on, especially those without beta. You insult people for ignorance of what ever the current beta standing is, but then ignorantly post things and someone else is then rude when you get called out? Diablofans would be a significantly better place if you never posted again.

Now he can spam Elemental Arrow with bombs and Multishot as much as he wants, from this video I would say the skill is spamable for sure.

This build uses a melee 1h weapon with highest possible top end (probably maces or axes) and shield.

This build has literally no way of generating hatred. Its probably because you haven't read patch notes and are uninformed. Which would be fine and naturally excusable, but seeing as I've seen you pick out and insult people outright for not having been aware of a change that was made just over 24 hours before you were insulting his lack of knowledge about it, I think then its safe to call you a retarded fuckwad dipshit who should read the fucking patch notes before posting abortions all over other people's threads.
What are you talking about exactly?
Demon HunterHungering Arrow - Rune of Puncturing Arrow - pierce chance reduced from 55% to 50%
Impale - Rune of Impact - stun chance reduced from 100% to 65%
Smoke Screen - Duration increased from 2 to 3 seconds & Cost increased from 15 to 24 Discipline

If he can dish it then he can take it.
i posted this build BEFORE spike trap was turned into a hatred costing spell instead of generator smart guy. lmao. as you can see on the calculator since it hasnt been changed its a perfectly viable build. once the calc is updated with the changes ill obv change it accordingly. damn some people are just rude
Considering the timestamp says "Posted Today, 02:04 AM GMT"
It says yesterday at 9:04 PM GMT! And I can assure you he posted it before the patch notes, not that the patch notes actually stipulate a fraction of the actual changes.
With spike trap now being 30 hatred, I can't see this thing working anymore.
We would need to see the runes now...
