I hope your right Procylon if it is as simple as, the numbers are white so it is a melee hit.... then they might just save SB for receiving effects of MW. If that is what your saying.... use more words, elaborate. Due to spectral blade having to be in melee range and dealing damage from weapon it is really hard to think of it as a spell. Could it really be that simple? White numbers = melee ? I saw a wizard casting electrocute and the numbers looked white there so that doesn't look to reliable...
Actually I am saying that you won't be doing white hits. White hits are historically auto-attacks in rpgs.
Monk and Barb trade their auto attacks for actual skill attacks. Those skill attacks count as melee hits. The Wizards Spectral Blade is simply a special Wizard flavored melee attack. It will count as a melee hit and get all the bonuses accordingly.
Logically, I can't see it being any other way. It just wouldn't make sense for the melee wizard build to only ever use melee attacks when it is out of arcane power(which is the only time a wizard will swing a weapon or use a wand).
I hope your right, if SB does get MW's effect then it will enable up to 25 effects from a cast of SB.... Indigo in SB and obsidian in MW could still be the highest and quickest damages but the rest of the combinations would be useful.
Bash/Cleave/etc count, therefore Spectral Weapon will as well.
Also, if you look at just about any Blue post on the subject of white hits, they usually indicate that there will be little reason(typically resource depletion) to actually swing a weapon without a skill behind it.
Do you have links to back this up? It seems like it should work that way, but I wasn't aware we had any evidence yet.

Only anecdotal evidence and logic. The links to some of the below are out there, but I don't have them saved.
1. Bash does 145% weapon damage and generates 6 Fury. No cooldown. There won't be any white hitting, just spamming of this skill and similar. Same for Melee Wizard with Spectral Blade.
2. Every Blue post on the subject indicates that white hitting will be rather uncommon. For instance, Wizards will only white hit when out of Arcane Power, which is to say never(with an Academic Skill such as Spectral Blade tied to the mouse).
3. A melee Wizard build would be pretty useless if the only 2 melee skills did not synergize and work together.
4. Pretty sure anything that says X% weapon damage(Spectral Blade), will be proc'ing weapon related effects(Magic Weapon)
That is all I got. Logically I can't see it being any other way.
Food for thought...if the effects from the MW rune affect SB, then there is no incentive to use MW on its own. That would be a pointless skill used only for the sake of making one melee skill take up two skill slots.

I take your logic and raise you facts. MW runes SPECIFICALLY STATE "Melee attacks". The improvement to 34% melee damage is the ONLY rune that affects spectral blade.
Spectral Blade (SB) takes into account your weapon DPS and then spilts it's damage into 3 slashes of 35% of that damage. It doesnt matter if you have physical damage or fire or whatever on your weapon. And it will all come out as physical damage, unless your SB is runed to add bleed etc.
This is supported by a few people that have played the beta and tried to figure out how it all works. 1 player had a weapon with poison on it. When he used SB he did not get any poison damage on his hits, but his physical damage from SB was higher than just the physical damage from his weapon. He therefor concluded that the extra DPS from the poison on his weapon were added into the total calculation.
Im not sure about lifesteal, knockbacks etc. Im hoping these will be split into 35% of original chance and then added to each of SB's 3 slashes, even tho the description of SB doesnt say anything about this.

Did he account for the extra dmg from his character's Attack attribute?
After reading 2 of ElectricEel's posts in another thread, and one of his here, I've decided to ignore anything that he takes the time to compose (which is most likely a rather long time, as most of his posts are unnecessarily lengthy).
That said, I understand your take on the weapon damage mechanic of Spectral Blade. It's clear to me that the damage of the spell, Spectral Blade, will be based off of weapon damage (as it clearly states). However, Magic Weapon clearly states that it grants 20% increased physical damage. Spectral Blade, as far as I'm concerned, is still a spell and says nothing about being physical damage, it only states that the damage that it does when cast, is based off of weapon damage.
You could take a spell like Magic Missile (which we know is Arcane damage) and change the description to deal x% weapon damage. Regardless, it still remains Arcane damage. Just because the damage modifier is based on your weapon doesn't mean that the attack does physical damage.
All of this and I still have the feeling that Magic Weapon will compliment Spectral Blade as if it were a melee attack, simply because I think that is Blizzard's intentions. Yet it is still a little unclear, by the descriptions of the spells.

Playing a Wizard. Looking for Demon Hunters to play with.
Good for you Nastai don't bother mentioning something specific, we dare not talk about it.....
It has to do with you always striving to make your point, and failing to see that of others. It's as if you think you are a know-all when it comes to the game, which I find annoying. From what I've read...

Talking with someone like you Nastai is pointless, some of the other people at least have math that they did and they have alternatives, and the have actually mentioned the things they don't agree with me about so we can discuss them. You say you don't agree but you can't think of or are too lazy say anything to put yourself out there. You say you don't agree but we can never know or benefit from the alternative that you're apparently too lazy to come up with.
When I trashed temporal flux I actually mentioned the alternative, something that lasted longer but in a previous post someone was mentioning it but didn't bother to say whether I was right that Miasma lasted longer and slowed better than TF.
They are just upset that I actually had an opinion on it that wasn't theirs....

Yah..... about your "alternative"..... Go read my reply to your trash post.
What I want to know is will the runed effects for magic weapon effect spectral blade.
Did you read all the posts? We've come to the tentative conclusion that it will. It doesn't really make much sense otherwise. Procylon brought up a great point of how Barbs have skills that they can spam just like Spectral Blade which means they too have no reason to ever do an actual normal hit.
On a side note, yesterday on stream I saw a guy testing out a melee wizard. He figured out that the cast speed of Spectral IS influenced by the attack speed of the weapon you have equipped. Useful information imo. Also enforces the idea that it will proc melee hit effects.

I am not 100% sure of this. I think there is somewhere you can see how much damage you do, included stats. Anyways since there have been a few people saying this it just seemed likely.

You are right about Spectral Blade probably being spell damage. Nontheless i think the damage boost from Magic Weapon adds to your overall weapon damage, which then is used to calculate the damage of SB.
I too think Blizzard intends SB and MW to work together, with all runeversions of MW. Dunno how lifesteal, knockback etc. will work. When you think about it, the most powerful weapons in the game will have some sort of additional effects other than the base damage of the weapon. Not taking advantage of these effects would make wizards using SB/MW feel very gimped.

Interesting. Wonder if increased cast speed or attack speed from items will make you cast SB faster (or maybe its both). If its only increased attack speed its kind of disturbing as you would have to chose which you would want to cast faster, SB or the rest of your spells.

It Magic Weapon effects Spectral Blade at all, then it is almost certain.
