i rarely see any fetish themed builds. personally, i think fetish abilities look funny and are amusing so ive been trying to create a truly effective and competative fetish build using at least 3 (out of the 5) fetish abilities for the following purposes:
1) Paragon and/or Legendary Farming @ mp 0-4
2) Ubers @ mp 5-10
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
this is all a work in progress and im playing around with different builds trying to optimize it. so far here is what i got...
1) Fetish paragon and/or legendary farming build - i seem to really blast through the content with this build. the irony is that the higher the mp level the more fetishes proc because it takes more casts to kill stuff; so in a sense it auto scales with game difficulty. @mp3-4 there are quite a few fetishes running around its really fun. i prefer humongoid over restless giant for farming because he snags more aggro and scales real nice with gruesome feast. its noticably more efficient farming with the humongoid on mp3-mp4 where it takes mobs a little bit longer to kill. http://us.battle.net...UiQT!VcY!baaZba
2) fetish ubers build - (farming ubers mp8 on reg now) with tribal rights passive its easy to cheese the restless giant 120 second cd by recasting garg every 45 seconds. also really liking the shorter bbv cd http://us.battle.net...UiQT!Vch!bZaZbZ
2b) fetish ubers w/bears (not a bears fan personally) but god damn they do stupid damage. so until bliz fixes this, this skill is still king. I dont have a LL weapon to make it work atm so im not going to touch this right now.
please feel free to try these builds out and give some feedback.
the builds have been improved and i editted them in the OP. if anyone has some advice for me would be appreciated. even though i beat ubers on mp8, I was not really sure how efficient it was (i think i held my own but there is always the possibility i was being carried)
people in game asking about my garg choice.. humongoid (instead of restless giant) for 2 reasons. 1st, the cleave attack snags more aggro. no dogs means that snagging aggro is more important until the fetish sycophant procs starts kicking in. 2nd, humongoid's 130% base damage aoe attack scales really nice with gruesome feast and ptv. When farming higher MPs especially, I seem to clear noticably faster.
for uber runs im still trying to figure out optimal setups.
maybe try to get a decent Gidbinn which has a nice proc rate and some decent MF for low MP farming.
with a socket you can get some really good damage going or manareg for more acid cloud spamming
the problem with the gidbinn its low dps and lack of beneficial stats. i had an almost perfect gidbinn socket w/a 100 crit gem and it was pretty underwhelming weapon to say the least. if i use that weapon i take a huge dps hit and im trying to increase my dps not lower it.
also, even though the fetish procs of the gidbinn seem to do more damage per hit than the sycophants passive, they are not nearly as hardy and get 1 shot (and their damage is still nothing to write home about). the main thing that fetishes are good at is grabbing aggro (not doing damage).
spider queen is a handy one for a fetish proc build.. her aoe ticks can spawn the fetishes as well, so combo it with lob blob and some rain of frogs going you can get a nice armada of Fetish out there
giving up spirit walk blows as it will slow down "farming" and get rid of the "oh shit" button, but in exchange for some more fire power and fetishes to eat aggro it might work. whats nice is that these builds arent very mana intensive and spider queen is only 5 mana so its not going to mess with the WD resources.
giving up spirit walk is rough though... ;-/ .. need to mess around with it and see how it plays out.
k so i experimented a bit with spider queen. didnt even notice the damage it was doing. it walks so slow that the mobs were killed before it had a chance to do something even on mp4. didnt even notice any more fetishes than usual. lost mobility. not feelin it.
I use Fetish Sycophants from time to time, in low MPs. Its great. Procs a ton, I see a lot of those little dudes going around. And I mean a lot, usually I'm running around with 3-5 of those little bastards.
With high attack speed (2.00+), it works very very well. Too bad there isn't a skill to do something with them or boost them in some way, like Sac does with dogs.
Re-spec to Bears and mana regen because its just so much faster. Tried to run with Acid Rain, Corpse Bomb, Searing Locusts, only Ghost Bomb (with BBV,garg,dogs,Sac for increased dmg,zombie handler)... nothing comes close to Bears.
This requires high attack speed to work effectivelly (i'm at 2.47) because with PtV Acid Rain is not spammable, you use it 3 times in a row to take advantage of added ground-AoE damage of it while spamming Ghost Bomb and relying on SW, Horrify and the pets to stay alive. The combination of all the summons going around, anywhere from 4 to ~10, makes it easy to time the Acid Rains to take full advantage of the spell. Only weakness is single target, but how often are you actually engaged in single-target damage dealing other than the last elite standing? Even then the monster has already taken loads of damage from the AoE.
On the Garg rune, on lower MPs Humongoid is a clear-cut winner, but in higher MPs Restless Giant is way better. It does A TON of damage when it goes HULK SMASH.
After all that said, honestly, I switch around too much to consider these the 'builds I use'. These are just examples that worked for me.
Synchopants are really good id the mid MPs. If the MP is too low, you aren't cast enough to make a lot of them and you are moving too fast for them to sustain any dps. If the MP is too high, they die off too fast. Try them with firebats, it cast twice over it's cast time and you can register fresh casts by clicking bats instead of holding it down.
I currently run the fetish passive and I can say having 3-5 up is not really worth the trouble esp if your using bears as your main out put...
With the right gear the best skill to use for fetish procs is bats!
I currently use plague bats and I get 10 little fettish up in no time with a small 1.56 attack speed. I'm planning on boosting my attack speed but depends on my mana efficiency. Currently I have 90.6 base mana regen and with haunt on targets that can jump to 151.8/s so I have no problems keeping mana up and in dire situations pop spirit walk honored guest to take a bit of pressure off...
The main and awesome thing is the little guys are their ability to distract and be damage meat shields... I'm running garg and dogs and it is really quite enjoyable to run with a monster army. Elites don't take long as I can stand behind the pets and spam 270 damage per second off the plague bats which at the moment works better in long fights/higher mp's than bears cause of the mana up keep and life steal values. The crazy thing about bats is that ur constantly generating more fettish ever second.
I'd post a build but I'm on my mobile feel free to look my char up
My plague bats melts roughly 800 and up per second to all in the cone. Plus haunt damage and pets means fights dnt take long at all mp7 is my sweet spot at the moment
Morkai#1419
Used them in übers mp 10 also they are weak against dot damage and annoying as fuck against reflect dam but I'm looking forward to jumping on later now 107 is live for the pet upgrade!
Now that reflect damage no longer annihilates pet builds, fetish sycophants is a very good passive. The fetishes can add quite a lot of damage when you have 5-10 of them out.
I agree 100% that Plague Bats is the best way to proc fetishes. As long as you've got enough mana regen (easy with the Zuni 4pc) and a -Firebats Cost on your helmet, you can spam firebats all day long and they proc fetishes like crazy. Plague Bats deal considerably more damage than the other varieties of firebats (except cloud of bats which is melee range). If you lack survivability, plague bats is a great way to apply Bad Medicine debuff.
I've toyed around with taking Fetish Sycophants + Fierce Loyalty (gives all pets HP regen). Normally the Fetish Sycophants die off very rapidly to stronger enemies but fierce loyalty gives them enough survivability that you end up with boatloads of fetishes. Not sure if it's worth it but its hilarious to watch.
The whole problem is, plague of bats is quite weak skill to begin with (vs bears).
And build that uses rain of toads with extreme attack speed (it is possible to sustain mana with right gear) is even weaker, since this skill despite having hidden 50% attack speed bonus, is just really weak damage dealer (great loh and fetish proc).
you sir seem to miss the point, which is a build not main stream but a fun one based off something different... is it optimal? no ... does it work moderately well and is it fun? yes and yes... its a game bro lol
nice... ill experiment w it for sure. right off the hop im thinking something along these lines:
I reckon some big WD changes are coming in following patches, especially buffing pets which I look forward to.
Thank you for this fresh look into the Witch Doctor!
