I just hate this "cover your years and go 'LALALA WE'RE NOT LISTENING'" attitude.
Where is this 'attitude' occurring? Blue posts? I'm honestly asking, because I don't get that vibe from them in regards to listening for input etc.

Tell me what sounds better? We have to close the AH because of legal issues? Or we have to close the AH because we want to improve your gaming experience?
    Both sound ok.

Blizzard heads off any possible bad PR when you have to pay taxes on things you buy on the AH, and it allows them to re-balance the game in a world wear the flow of items between players is limted.

...but I've never worked for a living so what do I know? :pirate:

I'm sure the lawyers that Blizzard (and Activision) employed were completely unaware of these legal restrictions preventing them from the keeping the Auction House.

That's not really an argument. Big organizations do illegal things all the time, consciously or unconsciously.
If everyone did their job 100% right, then.....well, I'll just leave it at that.
They may do illegal things, but they don't make them one of the central pillars of their product.

In two years, with the AH being the most controversial feature, someone, somewhere on the internet with the proper legal background would have exposed any legal issues.

The other parts of the argument: Blizzard wanting to get rid of the AH bots accounts etc, is no doubt a motivating factor...but so is the effect on gameplay.

I would like to draw comparisons to PoE. PoE has the long term incentive on the very simple premiss of that it's very action oriented. You don't go on optimal XP farming sessions - you level and try to beat the content in a progressively more challenging way that forces you to re-think your build. And that's A LOT more fun then what D3 has done so far. [snip]
Your post is interesting because everything that you describe that PoE has, Diablo 3 also has...unless you are playing a WW barb decked out in really great gear.

The difference is that in PoE it takes longer (or is impossible due to tuning) to get to the point where you cannot overpower the game.

Let's face it, everything that is happening here is because of money.

Some naive minds are thinking this is all happening, because Blizzard wants to make a better product, maybe it is time to wake up from your pony farm world and take off the pink glasses.

    *Gasp*

    Better product = more money

Yes, right now, D3 is an ocean full of greed, selfishness, and exploiters.

OK, so I have a big question then. If the D3 community sucks so badly why haven't you quit to play PoE? I mean that's your ultimate solution for people who don't like this potential change... so why isn't it also the solution to your problem?

You shouldn't tell people to quit D3 and play PoE if it's not something you're willing to do yourself. It reeks of "As long as D3 is exactly what I want everyone else can go fuck themselves" and that's really not a valid perspective to have unless you think Blizzard is trying to design a game that sells one, single, copy to you.

Actually he did quit D3 for Path of Exile.

    Quote from CardinalMDM

Ya know what, I'm honestly fine with that. I've been playing Path of Exile with my friends lately, under a minute amount of protest, as I think the sphere grid and materia systems (aka, passive skill tree and skill gems) are pretty lame design choices...however, arguably...PoE has better loot drops. I really can't argue there, but then...in D3's expansion, my friends and I will be right back in the swing of things. I'm not playing PoE instead because it's a better game, by any stretch of the imagination...only reason I am playing it is because better and more potent loot will be found in a game I prefer very very soon.

This gem system is just a different flavor of the item system already in the game. Another option would be to just create more and more powerful items.

And that's the actual flaw of the game. Nothing to do. And what will we get with RoS? More loot sources, but no playground for the perfect characters those have that fall for this expansion.

So then the people that farm enough to get bored because they have a "perfect" character will stop playing. Though the majority of players will be continuing to farm over a much longer period.

I don't think it will be so much longer if drop rates are even close to consoles and enchanting around.
It would be quite a stretch to get them to the console level, which (as you've stated) would be too much loot too fast. The console game is designed around being rewarding in one session, so I guess we'll see for sure whenever a loot 2.0 ptr is running.

On the other hand, gearing a character faster means folks will have the opportunity to mess with other classes or parts of the game they might not have explored yet (like Hardcore).

What they've done with D3, especially in this light, is a complete contradiction to the one thing that truly made D2 a great game: freedom to do as you wished.
The only restriction in Diablo 3 (after RoS) will be that you can't trade legendary/set items (and only those types) with players other than your party members. Which by the way, is only the current plan. That might change in some way too. Otherwise, RoS will be the most open Diablo game yet.

It's not "no trading", it's no trading of legs/sets outside of the party when they dropped. It's not the "other extreme" from the AH. That would be everything BoA.

And they're adding so that you can CTRL + hover over the item to se what range the stats can roll. That way you could see how good an item can be (or how bad it is). Kind of a rating implementation I guess.

It's in one of the blizzcon videos anyway. Don't remember which one though.
It was in the systems panel.

I'm in the 'who cares' category, but I think limiting trading of legendary/sets to only your party is ok. Maybe you'll never get that one legendary for that one build you might want, I guess those are the breaks. It won't keep you from getting anywhere in the game.
