You guys need to start watching your advertisements. Norton 360 has been barking at me incessently about how it thinks its detecting phishing attempts or spyware.
And just now I checked task manager and this browser window (diablo fans) alone was eating up 25% cpu and 1.2GB of RAM. This means that you either have MAJOR memory leaks... or your advertisements are leaking.
Whatever you guys are doing lately needs to stop..
Funny - Diablofans using 1.2GB of RAM is my setup? Try going to the main page right now... let it sit for a few minutes and tell me how much memory is taking of your computer.
I don't mind the ads so much as the resource issues stemming from them. I don't mind contributing revenue to the site by ignoring ads :)... i just don't like checking my task manager and seeing my computer getting eaten alive by them.
The site does cause flash player and some other things to lock up momentarily when it is loading. It was not an issue before they switched to this new layout, and I had been hoping they were going to be fixing it soon... along with the broken forums and all the other issues.
A. You need to watch your fucking mouth. If you want to get results from anyone in this world learn to treat people with a little respect, you punk. These people run this site for your amusement without pay.
B. If you don't like advertisements use a real browser with Adblock Plus. Problem solved.
C. As outlined, Norton is terrible.

Norton is not muck since 2010 when they fixed the complaints everyone had. If you knew wtf you were talking about maybe you'd know that.
Additionally, Mem leaks aren't instantaneous... if you noticed your RAM usage WAS in fact continually growing, and off the get go you were using 225MB of ram... for a webpage. Think before you speak please.... or at least know wtf you are talking about :).
I actually tested it with both chrome and IE... both are eating way more ram than a webpage should....
My 1.2GB of ram getting crunched was from leaving the browser open for 2 days straight...
Also... norton is one of the best ... if not the best antivirus on the market right now. They were good... lost it... and recovered when their marketshare diminished.
Yeah, it really does. It crashed my phone a couple times.
The front page is the worst offender. But since half the stuff on the forums doesn't work, I'd just assume the site is set up wrong and has multiple memory leaks.
It'd be nice if DF was made a bit lighter, even with an adblocker it seems a bit slower than it should be considering the content. Firefox user here on a 35/35 connection, so those shouldn't be the problems.
Norton is still bad imo. Security Essentials + decent browser security (like no script) + responsible browsing behavior = no virus or problems whatsoever for over 6 years now.
Norton isn't the cause of the memory leak.... and it isn't slowing down my PC. My pc can more than handle any tasks i throw at it... including running a VMware Server 2008/ SQL server VM ... while playing d3 beta.
We could all argue all day about the best anti-virus... and we all have our preferences. You'll call me a noob for using Norton... and i'll call you a noob for using Kapersky or Avira. (and fyi i work at a computer forensics firm that handles some malware analysis).
My complaint isn't that Norton + Diablo Fans = bad performance ... its the following:
1.) Norton (only during the last week) has been barking about what it deems certain banners as being phishing attempts.
2.) Diablo fans runs NO LESS than 200MB and if left open will mem leak to enormous amounts of data.
3.) Diablo fans should not allow its advertisers on the homepage to run so intensive...
I seriously don't get how Diablo fans is more intensive than facebook?
Me either, but it uses 10 times the memory. If I had to guess it would be something in the forums set up wrong. I mean, a lot of stuff on the forums doesn't exactly work right.
I am not even on a pc and i am noticing this with chrome, firefox and safari. my cpu usage goes up way to much for a front page, really thats the culprit, as the forum pages doesnt eat as much memory. Probably has to do with the side banners, but mmo champ isnt having that issue with the same banners.
People wailing on anti-virus solutions really need to understand that almost all of them now have such a low footprint its almost not worth mentioning, especially considering the power of modern machines. Is norton as good as some others, imo it isnt, but its so much better then what it was it isnt even funny. the old norton days are over. (this is coming from a guy who just runs MS security Essentials on his PCs and has tried most current AV solutions).
What I would ask of the op is the nortern alert happening on mmo-champ front page?
People are blaming curse but this is not occuring for ME on MMO-champion which is another curse run site. There is a problem somewhere, just where i am not sure. I dont think its the adds as even when blocking memory usage does go up with time.
Instead of yelling at each other and calling people noobs how about we just recognize that there is an issue as multiple posters are reporting it.
running a few more tests and sometimes (not all the time) the site reloads for no reason or the fun one is this page took 27 seconds to FINISH loading. I could see all posts, adds and deta at the bottom (looked fully loaded and I could read it) but the browser was still going at it like crazy).
any one else having this sort of behavior?

no class from this guy

I think they run this site cause they wanted to have Diablo 3 beta keys for fan-sites

While the site does tend to load slower than most I use, I don't notice it using a ton of resources.
All that being said, I would turn off Norton for awhile and see what happens to your system performance.

dfans doesnt handle the ads, curse does so the discussion should be dropped.
