i think expanding on their idea of having torchlight as an mmo is an interesting idea, particularly as you can create your own levels, and how the game is so open of modifications. i think there is some potential for wc3 style online roleplaying sessions. and having the level editor so user friendly and open to creative coding only aids this. ...so i see some potential!
just recently i dl'd mods for levels 100-999 (along with the levels you need to gain the experience) with respec options and elixirs for faster gameplay speed and character skins.. and the game has only been out for a little while
Who said anything about mods for the MMO? Mods obviously don't quite work with MMO...
Played the demo a bit...honestly just feels like a unashamed Diablo ripoff. Even the music in the caves might as well have come direct from D2 (I realize that Matt did the score, but something new at least). I will have to try it a bit more I guess for a verdict, honestly the content just seems kind of "kiddie" to me. Well, my 2cents anyhow...and yes D3 might take some ideas from it, but there is no way in hell they have to even remotely fear any competition from this game.
I dunno that character with the guns just seems odd to me, couldent she just use the bow or something.

For the record. Torchlight did not up the ante. That is all.

If the developers actually thought for a moment and made a multi player aspect even if it took the back burner to the single player pertain of the game, I feel it would def take some fans, not a real threat tho. GW2 poses a much larger threat to D3 then Torchlight.
Well i hadnt noticed that he used those, but yea thats odd too.

You summed up my idea of Torchlight with that comment.

I swear TL has to be the lamest game out I didn't even hear about it till the day of the release. So I said to myself what the heck I'll try it out... I played it for 20 min and got so bored with it I wanted to delete it off my computer asap. The story lines crap the difficulty is not even challenging and the items are lame.
Now when I say the items are lame I mean, diablo 2 and 1 had unique items, runewords and awesome sets to collect in the game and mfing your face off for them was always fun for some odd reason. Since then I have yet to see a game with a more indept item system. All the games now including TL seem to all fall short cause of there poorly created item systems. TL especially with it's lame randomized item stats and being able to add as many enchants as you want to any item. I mean common it kind of ruins the game when you can get and old level 1 weapon and just put tons of enchants on it, instead of having to work for those awesome "uniques, runewords and set items". Ya you might say "but TL has sets and unique items to!!" but do they even do anything besides giving you a extra stat on the item or stats that aren't on any weapon? No they don't... They just look unique at best and have no real uniqueness in stats or anything else and that's why TL will never come close to diablo.
Maybe you should load up Diablo II and play for 20 minutes without taking shortcuts, and see how many cool items you find in DII without MF gear, and how hard Blood Moor/Den of Evil is *snorts*
I dare you to play TL on Very Hard past the first 4 mine levels. >>
No, TL is not really Diablo, you got that right. Thank god.
Funny cause I thought this site was called diablo fans not diablo clone fans and as for palying through normal on diablo 2 and actually playing the game I've done that more times then I can count considering I've played diablo for 5 years and still am. I could careless if you all sit here and bash me or not so save your words.

I'm agree on all what you aid except that :
Having to WORK for those awesome "uniques, runewords and set items" I find that boring to have to work for get a good items ! HEY Yo it's a game I don't want to work !! it's so hard to find, it's only a part of game for hardcore no life players.
I find the idea to put unlimited enchants on items very great !! It's force you to take choice, Do I wait for better item or I spend my enchant on my current weapon ?
If we compare diablo series with others similar games, I dislike TL, I extremly prefer Titan quest. It's inovate all from d2, it's bring many good feature that d2 doesn't have. And skills system are extremly great and well balanced. Each class has aura and attack, you can do a caster or a fighter with each class, you can mix both if you want.
Having the game more challenging does not mean you need to have no life to play it, it only means it's going to give you more gameplay then other games that aren't as challenging. All in all TL didn't up the ante at all. Diablo 3 is gonna rock and that's all there is to it!
Ps. Yes TQ was a awesome game and I would play that over TL any day.
I did in fact play hard and not very hard and I guess I could have tried it out but I think why I didn't enjoy it was cause it's single player and playing a game like that alone is definetly boring.
I know they have plans to make it mmo and I'll probably give it another shot when that happens but I think your right about the increase in costs of enchants.
I would also just like to say that I didn't come on here to start trouble it was simply to state my opinion on the game when you guys were comparing it to diablo. Sorry if it upset you.
I will take the advice of you guys though and give it another shot on very hard.
When the hell does this game come out, cuz today i went looking for it and its not out yet, i checked online and it said october, but then i checked the store websites and it said January. Man today was a bad day to find games.

Yeah, I'm waiting for the hardcopy as well. I assume there will be a much better selection of mods to toy with by then anyway. I actually may end up waiting for quite awhile since I'll probably be getting Titan Quest by then. That should satisfy my thirst for Diablo-like ARPG play for awhile. I guess I'll get Torchlight when I'm tired of TQ.
