In a recent interview with the Wired blog, VP Rob Pardo revealed some of the following details about Diablo III's release date and the state of its development.
"I don't know how far out it is, but it's still fairly early in development. I think when people see it, it feels so polished and so finished, but the reality is we have a very small portion of the game done right now," Pardo explained.
He added: "A lot of the way we develop is: We wanna make sure the game is really fun and the visual fidelity we want ... we wanna make sure we have a small area that feels really done so we know what to build. So even though it looks really complete a lot of the content is just not there. We have a long ways to go to build each of the different acts in the game and put in all the quests and all the different monsters. We have a lot of development ahead of us before it will be something ... It will definitely be out after StarCraft II."
It looks like we'll be waiting for Diablo III for awhile yet. Let's just pray that Starcraft II comes out within the next few months.
Thanks gyrextt for spotting this in an interview I'd read but kinda skimmed over.
Yup, don't think this information - new or old - should be surprising. I'd give Blizzard a whole lot more time if I knew the finished product would be a patiently-and-neatly-handcrafted-courtesy-of-Blizzard kind of product.
Plus, gives me time to save up for a monster pc; the 'thing' I have now...lol. I'm just not gonna play D3 with lowered graphics settings.
That's not news, that's just saying the obvious. I could tell you this... it doesn't take a dev to realize that there's alot more work/testing to do. You guys were just being waaaay too optimistic. "This year!" "This christmas!" "This halloween!".... pfffff
That's why someone with authority had to come and burst your bubble.
i think they ar efooling us ... and i think D3 is at least so advanced as Sc2 but they need to get Sc2 out first then D3 . And they will not get out both games cose they wont make much profit and there cant be 2 games of the year :D:D
Sc2 will get out this Xmas or early 2009 and D3 i hope early 2010. At least this is how i see things

starcraft may get out in april 2009, a beta must release this Xmas,
so my guess is early 2010, and maybe in october 2009 they'll release a playable demo for us:); but until there, Blizzard should do updates in D3's webpage more frequently, if not, they probally will face the hate ande insatisfaction of many fans.
That still leaves the door wide open and the question unanswered on a very broad scope.
Will that be after Starcraft II: Episode I, II, or III.
Has this been clarified?
Episode 1, as I understand will be the Terran campaign but will still include online battle.net capabilities which is what Diablo 3 is waiting for, the announcement of bnet 2.0
So anytime after Episode 1 should be viable for D3.
My first post.... Diablo and D2 are outstanding games. I expect Blizzard to produce a D3 that will live up to all expectations. The clips so far look awesome. If 2009 or 2010 is what it takes for the to release the game, so be it. I just want them to get it right.
It's a shame it wont be released soon, but it seems that time has been flying since they originally announced it actually exists.
Me and my daughter used to play D2 LOD when she was like 9 years old, and as nerdy as it sounds we have been waiting for D3 ever since. Too bad she may be off to college before it will be released.

Why Blizzard, WHY?!
