I've agreed that it could be possible for someone to load a gun in an insanely quick period of time. This does nothing to change the fact that it would still be inaccurate, skill with a gun actually meant how fast you could draw and arm it and point in the right direction. A gun only killed when fired en masse. A gun would receive no bonuses from dexterity.
A crossbow, even if as slow as a gun, was more accurate due to fletching.
Enough with the strafe thing. It's a skill in a video game, it works because the developers wanted it there. And it is magic, in the same way Assassins have psychic powers kind of magic. It's a magic she has to draw from within herself, like the Shaolin monks in our own world who can break boulders with their bare hands.
I love you. Who votes we make this guy the Forum Clown?
Fuckin' stupid ass cunt...
Edit: Sorry... "Stupid ass cunt" is rude... And while you are...yea... I don't want the mod's on my ass. So my appologies...

It takes about 20 seconds because a smart crossbow man will be liberal about his energy and not go nuts like a sprinter. It's not easy to pump up a crossbow no matter if it's by hand or gear, it all requires energy and in this era crop failures were quite common, I highly doubt a muscular crossbow man would realistically exist, these guys were running on fumes a lot of the time, state sponsored supply lines were not a reality until much much later in europe, you basically had to live off the land...
It also takes a crapload because the stronger people would be on the front lines...
And yes, it's a bitch to crank a crossbow. Believe me, I tried... (Though just a historical replica...)
um lol, there are cranks and none-cranks. Or are you that demented to actually only talk about the cranked ones instead of the ones that you just pull back.
How about you pick up the textbook?
Ok, lets look at the ones you "just pull back". To simply pull it back you would have to have enormous strength. The average archer would never have this sort of strength. Ever. They would almost be forced to use a hand crank.
So no, the average archer could not "just pull it back", if they had that kind of strength they would of used a goddamned sword, as swords were more honourable in those ages.
(And honour was everything back then...where the hell did we fuck up?...)
Actually, you set it down and pull it back or turn the crank, that takes some time. That's why crossbows were frowned upon by generals of armies in favor of the faster firing bow.
Twenty to thirty seconds is pushing it, and you would have to be really skilled to get that off. Kinda like the five seconds to load and firing a normal bow if your really really skilled. But this is the world of Diablo, with "Hollywood History".
So you admitting that you can actually fire 3 arrows at the same time with a bow, rather than doing it with a hand cannon, glad we cleared that up. Thanks.
And you can also pray to whoever the hell you believe in that you can hit something with that stupid ass maneuver, too.

Multishot = 25 arrows from 1 ARROW magically split. Not some geezer who puts 2 or 3 arrows on his bow fires them and shouts YAR MULTISHOT!
When you hold a bow, its possible to fire 2 or 3 arrows at the same time, based on your hand positioning and skill. you put 3 balls down a hand cannon, and its going to blow your arm off.
That would work except A) that how Multishot would work, but Multishot is magical, from the devine and Strafe is firing volleys of arrows, not lots of arrows at once.
Now scoot along and let the smart people talk Shell.

Awww, where'd your pirates of the caribbean argument go? I liked that one!
I did too. I hope he says it again, I wanna see Siaynoq ban him...

I love the way people conveniently say that a "good archer can fire an arrow in 2-3 seconds" or whatever, and then neglect to mention to reloading time of a crossbow which is more comparable to a gun than a regular bow.
It is also neglecting taking the arrows out of the quiver, which takes time if you have three hundred fifty arrows in the goddamned quiver...
Yea, figured that you couldn't give a goddamned straight answer.
Either that or you think that that strafeazon is realistic. (By the way, strafe is a skill she learned, not a skill granted by her deities like multishot.)
10 arrows in one second, in multiple directions, is just plain impossible.
That's my point!

Guns aren't that bad. If they add guns, they won't replace bows, and they will likely have a slow firing rate and not be very popular. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw guns though. Diablo has a lot of lore. They wouldn't throw dialogue into D2 just out of the blue without any significance, when they have so much lore to work with.
I believe that the OP is correct, and there is a decent chance that there will be some sort of primitive gun type of weapon.
While I have been arguing for the gun side (As it does make sense that guns could work in Diablo) I am pretty much thinking that only cannons will make it into D3. Diablo 4 is different though...
Also, I wanna see guns just to piss these idiots off... *Evil snicker.*

Wasn't Larzuk (i think its Larzuk, the weaponsmith in the barbarian capital, yes?) already working on cannons to break Baals sieges? I remember him talking about inventing powder and pipes that would shoot metal balls or something. (and someone else calling him crazy)
I can see the assassin work quite well with guns and traps. Some kind of Dante (Devil May Cry) character who uses guns and swords and makes a very good use of both. I'd love to be able to shoot some zombies and then hack 'n slash them when they come near with some cool sword skills.
Don't know how it would work in Diablo, but it's a good idea nonetheless.
Something like this but of course with more "bullets" and faster reload, not this lame thing where you stick the powder in the barrel and then fire...once.
If you think about it, gunpowder warfare was present prior to the 15th century, so it isn't too far-fetched.
Granted they looked quite different, but still...
Also, we have crossbows(which look quite modern actually) in Diablo. If we're going to draw parallels between the way our world developed and theirs, guns aren't too far away. If not in this one, they would get in the expansion or the sequel
First, those guns are way more advanced then what I want to see. I dont want to see pistols, those are far too advanced, what I want is what is on the first page. Something historically accurate.
Second, I'd rather see an amazon/rouge class having a firearm tree personally... A bow tree, firearm tree, and javalin tree. Be pretty neat imo...

You want real reasons? How about they just dont make sense in the diablo universe? If there was going to be hand cannons, they would have been in diablo 1 or 2.
The fact is, you cant compare the real world with diablo, because it is a pure fantasy, with NO modernized mods.
If magic existed and ways of propelling something faster than a hand cannon would or if you could throw magic around like you can in diablo, why would they even have hand cannon in the first place, there are no dwarfs in diablo like there is in WoW.
Why would you have swords or bows if you can throw magic around?
Your...wow...

There is real magic, just not how Diablo makes it appear...

Strafe isn't even a spell, it's an ability, meaning they trained to learn it. (I'm reading right out of the D2 manual)
True. I'd like to see someone IRL show us how Strafe works with a real life bow...

I agree with Equinox, i don't see anything wrong with adding guns, if done intelligently. (no manga FFXIIIVVVXVVSSUUXXX stuff)
Handcannons like Equinox says, just sound very Diabolish just entering pre gun age.
edit: LOL, i just noticed how it spells SUX, hahaha, nice fluke.
Thats got to be some freudian shit right there.
It would have to be done right, or it would suck. But if anyone can, it's Blizzard. (Hopefully.)
Also, yes, FF sucks. (Except Chrono Trigger and Crystal Chronicles.)
Anyway I get your point it could of came from any other place. Though if cannons have been invented I still think it'd have been in the last 20 years. That's pretty big news.
It may of been big news. But we wern't around during the last 20 years... Who knows what happened during said 20 years?...
Well my suggestion for a cannon/gun that shoots spells is based on going with what the world has.
Twenty years isn't enough time to make a gun when they haven't even invented the rocket, or discovered gun powder.
On the other hand, a device which can fire spells in a magically heavy setting is completely plausible.
Except we haven't seen alot of the world.
I only saw hammers and anvils in A1 and A5, does that mean that only Westmarch and the Barbarian place (Fuck, can't remember the name) can only have metal? Of course not, that's insane.

And guns would work with a "Suspension of Disbelief" as well...

Fucking explain strafe.
Oh yea, plenty of sense. Plenty of sense.
Either that or you think that that strafeazon is realistic. (By the way, strafe is a skill she learned, not a skill granted by her deities like multishot.)
And I suppose that this is COMPLETELY realistic, right? Oh yea. Completely realistic. *Eye roll.*
