Exactly. Just because a weapon has been simplified doesn't mean it's not usable for warriors. (Modern day example: The AK47, takes a few hours to learn it, opposed to the M16A3, taking weeks to learn.)
I would expect hand cannons to be used in a similar fashion to bows with amazons though...
These crossbows required you to put the bolt in and usually either had a foot hold in order to pull the string back or a crank
Indeed. You didnt just pull it back like bows today. Hell, bows of that era wern't like today either!

Anyway why couldn't the bullets have magic properties also?
I was thinking more along the lines of the guns having the magic properties, similar to D2's bows and crossbows with saphires and rubies in them...

They could make it so it doesn't shoot balls, it could be a handcannon that fires those potions, or a version of the potions that goes further and more directly.
See reponse to [thread link="One"]Daemaro[/thread link]. (Two inches above this sentence.)

its kinda expensive stuff u sure u can afford it?:offtopic: i thought the catapult was a good idea :(..
How much is it? Lol!
Quote from "Murderface" »
But will anyone use it? I think not.
The reason I think they made throwing potions is for protection for someone who has no fighting experience.
Its just not practical.
Like the basic clubs you find in the begining of the game you mean? (Again, changed to a darker color so that it can be seen on tan.)
I think people would like it. The people that wouldn't are too busy not playing because of the color to not play because of the guns. Lol...
I question the practicality of fighting a horde of skeletons with a muzzle loader...
And loading a crossbow would be any easier?
It's a fantasy world, loading doesn't take forever with crossbows or guns like it does in real life.

OH the post from daemaro sparked me an idea... If there is a huge battle scene where a castle is involved. They shud have those huge whipping things. They like have a huge rock. They cut the rope and it spins and throws the rock flying. Like in Lord of the rings.
.............CATAPULTS. finally it came to me. LOL
What are you smoking? I want some. Lol
Quote from "Murderface" »
Do you know what the attack speed would be on that thing?
Do you know the realistic attack speed of a bow? Or a crossbow? It isn't 0.2...
(Changed your color so I could see it. Bright green on tan...not so friendly... Still green though...)
We have hammers in the game correct? Hammers are used the same as swords, correct? Hammers were an anti-armour weapon in the middle ages (Well, war hammers were...), as it would break the armour. Hammers are not used exclusively for armour in D2 though, are they?
While I do see that guns could very well be made in some part of Sanctuary, the problem still lies in rifling.
Rifling was an incredible, and simple, achievement that has changed the way we fight battles. If they had developed the process for rifling already, we wouldn't have been using swords and magic to fight the last two games.
The thing is, sanctuary is a world of magic, right? Archers can use magic to shoot arrows that, quite literally, hunt down enemies. Who is to say that you couldn't use some form of magic to help keep the bullet on the "straight and narrow"?
I'd like to see massive cannons that need to be fired from high wall that smash hordes of mobs... i could buy cannons being in D3, guns.... not sure.
I could see that. The massive cannons and whatnot. Maybe something like the siege cannon that is on the first page. Maybe have handcannons in Diablo 4.
You are all kind of missing my point with the whole speil, I was trying to say that Larzuk was influenced by a traveler who mentioned a weapon much like a gun or cannon, I was trying to say that he was influenced by an outside element, a possibly unknown asian element.
Wait. He was influenced by an outside element? Even I didn't know that...
Well, probability in Diablo 3 in my mind just shot up...
riight.. if you want firearms though, WoW is coming out with a new expansion, and there is a game called hellgate London... which is probably where you came from.
Firearms are not as improbable as you seem to think. If crossbows are capable of working, firearms are just as capable. (Also, not to go off topic, but I have never played HG:L before, and resent the remark.)
Guns dont belong in sanctuary. They belong in the land of azeroth. As for your comments about swords not being created until they put them in the game. Yeah good point, that actually happened in diablo 1, way to prove their point even more. rofl tard.
Except, I don't remember seeing any crossbows in Diablo 1 either...
And they belong in Sanctuary if Blizzard puts them in. This isn't about whether they belong or not, it's whether they would fit with the mechanics. And from what I can tell, if you have Crossbows, you can certainly have firearms.
Quote from ".KILLING-HAZARD." »
When i think of guns i think of really modern type ones. The only kinda gun suitable for a game like diablo would be a crossbow that shoots both bolts and knives and those throwing stars.
That's understandable. But look on the first page. There is a firearm that is what I am talking about.
Ok I had a few requests from different members to re-open the thread. So I'm going to. Keep it on topic or it will be closed again and it will not be opened after.
It has been much appreciated. It saddens me that it may get off topic again, as most things on this forum does, but I understand the requirements, and hope that my fellow members also understand the requirements.

I think guns can fit. If put in the correct way.
Yes. In my oppinion they would work much the same way as crossbows. Speeds consisting of slow and very slow, with the few uniques having a "normal" speed. (And yes, there are already crossbows, but there are already scepters with clubs exsisting, axes with swords exsisting, polearms with tridents exsisting, and throwing knives with throwing axes exsisting.)
I have to agree with brocko here. Its not about it being plausible or not, it is about making it fit within the world of Sanctuary, i think it "could" be possible to make them fit, but i also think its very easy to screw it up and end up with dumb manga guns or whatever. So its maybe better to stay clear away from them, less you screw up immersion.
The same people whining about guns and how it will make it WoW are whining about the graphics. Blizzard wouldn't fuck up one of there three major game franchises. They would put it in in a similar fashion to crossbows and bows and javalins.
Then again, EVERYONE on Diablofans.com seems to think Blizzard is too stupid to do there own game right....
Quote from "Doppelganger" »
Factually they don't fit seeing that there aren't any. Simple huh.
Factually swords didn't fit untill someone made the first sword, then it fit. Simple huh.
Amusing? amusing to have guns??? Even if they add the worst revolver ever, they will destroy the game. It's medieval times, medieval=/=guns
Read the first goddamned post. I never said anything about a revolver. Firearms would be a two handed weapon akin to bows and crossbows. And yes, firearms were in the middle ages. So please, get your facts from somewhere besides Hollywood.
Quote from "brocko" »
The amusement comes from the fact that it is out of place, much like the space orc in W3
Actually that was a space orc in SC2.
Still, it's even more ammusing you can't come up with a decent argument on the historical accuracy coupled with the magical imbuements that a hand cannon style weapon would have. I have stated multiple times that if done properly it would fit right in, and yet all I have heard in response is whining and crying akin to the arguement against the colors scheme of Diablo 3.
I am going to assume that these people who cannot argue with facts also signed said petition. *Sigh.*

The chances of guns/hand cannons in Diablo are probably next to nill, but even if it did somehow make it into the game, I'd like to think that it'll be in there as a novelty item rather than a core part of the gameplay, which to me would be pretty amusing
I agree. The chances of bows/crossbows in Diablo are probably next to nill.
Wait...shit...
And btw, those repeating crossbows are not accurate, and wouldn't of surfaced untill hundreds of years after current times in Diablo.
So it's ok that a crossbow be inaccurately presented because it's a game afterall.
But it's not ok for a gun to be used because it would be innacurately presented.
Besides, according to shelled, our archers are super human, they could reload a crossbow plenty fast. But I guess, for some reason can't reload a gun plenty fast. Oh right, they're archers, my mistake. How about a super human gun specialist of some sort... with a mana ball?
Now you get it. Crossbows are fine because it fits there little Hollywood world. Guns are not fine because they don't fit there little Hollywood world.
It's called hypocracy.
(Mind you this is from a guy who want's to play the barbarian class first...)
Quote from "Veritech017" »
It's spiritual magic. An achievement beyond the means of the normal person through intense training and likely a shitload of meditation (I believe the skill says that).
We call that magic. If someone levitates them self through pure strength of will, what does it look like to someone who cannot comprehend it? It looks like magic.
I already gave suspension of disbelief that a gun could be fired fast. The next problem is an advancement called rifling, and the introduction of the minie ball, which were not invented until the industrial revolution. By the looks of it, accurate guns in Diablo are several thousands of years off. Not twenty.
So, guided arrow couldn't be brought to the gun somehow to use magic to help it stay on a straight trajectory?...
Wait, this is Diablo, of course it can't. Magic only rips apart the most fierce monsters and brings the dead to life, it can't keep a tiny little ball in a straight line. *Eye roll.*
