Restrictied forums are generally based on user groups, which are primarily based on post totals.
Which means, yes a spammer can gain entry if the have enough posts.
I do not know how or if you can make it so requirements are based on how long someone has been at a forum.
The only real exception is Staff forums. One can only get in if they are an Admin or moderator.

I couldn't really see a special forum for reg members have many things to disucuss. I mean, would it be a GENERAL forum? What kind of topics would be discussed that couldn't be discussed else where? Would we be involved in more of the forums direction? I dunno, I'd rather just have a special color for reg members. It's recognition, that's really all they need.
Isn't that the niche of a moderator? To get rid of spam? I mean, if we have ineffective moderation, wouldn't that be something that needs to be addressed.

First of all, it's not spam, it's multithreading and/or flooding. Spam can be prevented on the technical level, but multithreading is virtually unavoidable if it comes from a new person every time. Moderators cannot keep up with deleting that, not to mention fairly, not to mention with a slowing down/crashing website.
can you put restrictions on a staff member so that he can get in but has no special powers?
Would be easier to change how the regular users group works, I don't really want to make another group, I not even sure forum entry can be granted on age, it's post count.
I can make a staff group that is like a regular user group, but I would have to manually move everyone. Id rather the forum do the work for me.

The problem is that we only have a small number of moderators compared to the average 10 posts per 5 minutes of threads like the Splash page threads (especially during a time like this.) You can't put all the wait on them- not right now, anyway- there just isn't enough of them to combat the spam onslaught. During a normal time without all these pending special events, there are enough moderators, and spam is usually taken care of- but right now, it isn't humanly possible.
And I like the idea of gem quality images being used for reputation. It would be nice if reputation was a larger part of a profile, too. ATM, it seems kind of just like an "Oh, what if we want to gauge someone's reputation? Idea! Let's add green rectangles that accomplish absolutely nothing!"

Can't you just extract the value of forum join date and then when it reaches a certain amount of x days, users are automatically transferred to the Senior Member usergroup? You could even make the system more elaborate by incorporating, oh say, post count/reputation like this:
And when the total left side of the equation is equal to 365, they are automatically transferred to said usergroup.
(You'd take 5% of the user's total post count and add it to 10% of their total reputation, rounded to the nearest whole number, and then add it to the number of days since joining- this would allow users to get in to the usergroup sooner depending on their post count (which is diminished greaty in the equation by only taking 5% of it, which can cut back on users getting in for spamming) and a small portion of their reputation.)

Well I think arguing that would be an uphill battle.
It would be nice to have an unmoderated forum for only specific priveleged individuals. I don't necessarily mean regs. We have a few that I would never invite to an actual discussion. Such as, Zubin, SteelVelocity, Robert91, HDLG(sp?). I could just never see them providing any insightful posts.
I don't like reputation being based from post count or join date. Not just for me, but for other members who I think are still somewhat new, but are very adequate members. Or members worthy of being reconized.

Anakyn, usafnbc, I mean, usa only has like 33 posts I think. But he articulates himself so well that he'd be a good guy to include in conversations. I mean, there are smart people who provide hugely opinionated threads, or posts. But they're so articulate and insightful, that they're the people I want to read posts from. So that's sort of where I'm getting at. I mean, although Murder is too much of a conspiratist, he makes great posts. Or Carlos and his perspective on Bush, and the war in Iraq. Magistrate, Siaynoq, Elfen, Equinox, Goodguy, these bright individuals. It would just be nice to sit in a private forum and read ONLY posts from these 15-20 members who really know how to elaborate on their point of view.
I know I sound a bit sucky up right now. But Its hard to stay interested in a forum when all of these big serious threads about wars, governments, forum members are starting to fade. I want them back. I miss drama, and I miss debates. I hate spam. I hate this week of the forum.
Yeah I know one month is stupid and all, but I'm just trying to include myself in this supposed forum, while being discrete bout it lol I could say 6 months or ever higher than that, but where would I fit? lol
Anyway, my main point was actually creating a more exclusive forum for the older community to discuss the news (any news) without worrying about newcomers spamming around or any other intrusions. A password would be an idea, but then how would you select the people to tell without being unfair? Also, it would be a lot harder for the mods to make sure only members they approve are allowed to join, and if they did not do that, how would you prevent someone telling everyone else the passwords? The forum age filter was an idea just to prevent that, at the same time making sure that even though everyone would eventually be allowed to join, it would take long enough for them to prove they actually wish to be part of the community.
Oh yeah and actually I decided not to suggest using post numbers because anyone can go there and post lots of crap **spam**, also it would not be fair to those which hardly ever post, but are old members.
I would like to see the rankings have more meaning to them. For example, concerning the idea of "having a forum for senior members only," we could have everyone who is ranked "high council" vote on who obtains the password to get into these forums.
I would just like to see something more than the title. Give me a duty as a heirophant.

On the matter of a special forum. I'm mostly with Spanish here. It's hard to decide who gets in and why. The point of such as forum would be to give the users something they cannot otherwise get, which in this case would be argumentative threads without spam. Now, if we go by posts, we will not get all people who'd like to debate and can do it, but we'd get people who are not interested it, and if we go by join date we get the exact same problem.

Problem is we'd end up people complaining about not being accepted, or people accepting spammers because they are friends and what not.
Right. The other end of the stick. Neither solution is fool-proof obviously.
I detest the idea of a forum based on post count or join date. It's ridiculous. However I do remember a site, I think it was Adventure Quest. Either way, they had a Debate Club, where you would become part of the Debate User Group and thus given access to the Debate Forum. I can't seem to find that feature right now, but I'm almost positive that was the site.
Either way, if this is to be implemented, then perhaps we could have some sort of trials? And some basic requirements and whatnot, to separate it from simply a post achievent or registration date thingy.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
Me and Carlo pretty much have the same perspective on Bush.
And, I'm sure we would be able to figure something out, maybe we can just try it and if it happens that a buch of newb spammers come in we will shut out the idea untill we get a more fool proof one.

Without all the spammers around.
It would probably be more or less a tavern thread.

Just some elaborated thoughts.
