Life is about making decisions. You decided to take on the responsibility of a demanding job, getting married, and having a child. The fact that you took off work to play a video game is also a DECISION. Some would say a piss poor one at that. See, someone with at least half a brain could see that these are not Blizzard's problems. So next time, do everyone and yourself a favor and don't bring your personal life into the argument. It has nothing to do with it.
However, this doesn't change the fact that Blizzard dropped the ball despite server downtime being the norm on big launch days. They should have known better. Especially since this isn't the first game on their roster that this has happened to.
No. I don't need a divorce... perhaps from Blizzard, but from my wife? Are you drunk? Only someone without a demanding job, wife and kids would make such a moronic statement.
If your time is so precious you should have did a bit of research into launch day problems that exist with every on-line game that's ever been launched.
Like I said... not my problem. Blizzard shouldn't have released it if it didn't work... simple. D3 is a product, like any other. Not for one second do I forgive the product not working due to issues that are integral to the product they are selling. Do you buy and car and expect it to not start for 24 hours? No, and D3 is no different.
They can't test millions of people logging into servers at one time and crashing them. The best they can do is fix it when the problems occur. It happens with all releases.
Sure the open beta gave them an idea, but not even the amount the probably bought the game did open beta.
Just an impossible thing to "fix" before the fact.
with WoW and starcraft 2, blizzard has had TONS of testing of millions of people logging into servers at one time and crashing them. it happens every time there's a major content patch or expansion.
This has to be the stupidest topic I've ever seen. There are so many things wrong with the OP that I hardly know where to start.
First, I will admit that the forced internet connection aspect is an understandable and completely acceptable gripe. While it doesn't bother me personally, I do see the point of your argument. Having an offline single player with no AH access would solve a lot of issues, especially launch related ones where I imagine at least 75% of people are basically playing single player anyway.
I understand the counter argument is security against exploits, considering there is an AH and RMAH. I think a preferable solution would just be to have offline content have no way of interacting with online content. That's obviously not the direction they went, so.. meh, so be it.
Everything beyond that in the post was complete non-sense though. Blizzard at fault because the servers didn't perform 100% perfect during a staggered WORLDWIDE launch where hundreds of thousands of people were basically making hundreds of thousands of games to play single player in? - LOL.
While in a perfect world, it would all have gone off without a hitch the truth of the matter is that is a very unrealistic expectation to have. You may be ignorant to how the internet and servers work, but even with the launch of a game half this size there are going to be issues that arise.
Your comment that Blizzard was "built" on MMOs is also false. They earned their reputation with single/multiplayer games. Back to that in a second though - assuming for a moment that comment was true, do you not think that would be credit for why things went as smooth as they did?
Perfect? No. Resolved quickly (especially considering the backass nature of tech/internet troubleshooting)? Hell yes.
But alas, Blizzard is not the house that MMOs built. WC 1, 2 and 3, Starcraft 1 and 2, Diablo 1, 2 and 3 and expansions vs 1 MMO (WoW + expansions).
So at the end of the day what I see is a lot of whining by someone with a raging case of entitlement. You think having a job, kid/s, and wife makes you some kind of martyr? lawl. I don't even get paid vacation days and yet you're complaining about what ultimately was a paid day of relaxation for you?
I still can't comprehend how Blizzard has so many people convinced that their failures and mistakes are not actually their own fault. Then those people get all pissy at those of us who see through it and actually expected them to do the job right. THAT is some talent in the brainwashing department if I don't say so myself. My job would be so much easier if I could learn a bit of that! Where do I sign up?
But see, that's not what most people are doing. Sure, there are some, but the majority of people in this thread seem to be saying that the OP should have been smart enough to NOT waste his day off today if he wanted to play Diablo 3. In the real world, a responsible person looks at what has happened in the past and makes his decisions based on that.
If you and I have planned to go to lunch once a week for the past 3 months and you have NEVER shown up, I will not plan to go to lunch with you at a time when I have other things I need to do, even if it's the only time that fits your schedule and you PROMISE you'll be there this time. Why? Because I look at how things have happened in the past and I know that I should only plan to go to lunch with you at a time where I won't miss anything because, chances are, you won't show up.
Same thing applies here. It doesn't matter what Blizzard said. It doesn't matter whether they messed up or not (for the purposes of THIS conversation, at least). Look back at how launches of online games have gone in the past, particularly highly anticipated ones like this. The vast majority have had major issues for the first day or two. So, when you do something like take a day off work, you should KNOW that you are taking a chance that you won't get to play the game. No matter how much Blizzard thinks they have it right, they won't know for SURE if they've done everything they need to until launch day. If they've never had a completely smooth launch before, then it just takes a little bit of thought to realize that they don't know they will have a smooth launch, they just BELIEVE they will have a smooth launch. So, again, you know you're taking a chance. The smart thing to do would be to schedule your day off NEXT week. Sure, you have to wait a week longer than everyone else to play, but it means you wouldn't have "wasted" your day off. As another poster said, if you choose to play Russian Roulette, you can't complain if you get shot. It's as much the OP's fault that he wasted a day off as it is Blizzard's. He didn't think things through.
Bah mate, the game is good, but...
-The story is complete trash
-Blizzard shit on our face every launch day
-I still get disconnected every 5 fucking minutes, this is no way to play
Thanks for nothing indeed
I still can't comprehend how Blizzard has so many people convinced that their failures and mistakes are not actually their own fault. Then those people get all pissy at those of us who see through it and actually expected them to do the job right. THAT is some talent in the brainwashing department if I don't say so myself. Exactly lol. The internet is always full of trolls, blind fanboys or ppl that just like to contradict you for no logic reason
I can't see how it is not your problem, since you are the one getting pissed...
Everyone know how every online game with SO MANY players always get a lot of problems at day 1, and not just server problemas, its when usually most bugs comes to surface.
Yes it is their fault, but you are the one losing a day of work to nothing... maybe they will lose you as a client, but this kind of problem is probably going to happen again in next releases and they still have millions paying for the product =]
OMG, some people who have children still sound like spoiled children when they find out that their present will be due Dec. 26 instead of 25.
Have you NEVER bought something on the internet that got delayed past estimated delivery date?
Have you NEVER arranged a meeting with someone that got locked in the traffic and couldn't make it?
Have you NEVER bought a defective item that took at least a week to be replaced even with every part playing by the rules?
Have you NEVER have to cancel a planned vacation due to work/family/financial/weather problems?
I could go on and on with a thousand everyday situations that would get you to postpone great expectations due to unforseeable events. If you have never been in one of those either you live in a bubble or are lying about having a job, a wife and a child.
Patience is a virtue but I guess we tend to forget it.
Let's think of a single online game that didn't have login issues during the release day and a couple of days after.
Thinking......NONE!!!
I was ready to login at approximately 01.00 a.m. Greece release time but I managed to log in 40 minutes later. So what?
Blizzard is a company that has many players or should I say millions.
Noone is flawless and the delay was bound to happen.
Same with WoW, GW2 and so many online games.
During the open Diablo 3 beta I was able to login after 3 hours of trying.
Apart from all the problems that I'm sure they will be fixed soon, the game is steady and enjoyable!
We play for fun, anyway!
So I've taken the day of work to play D3 and have spent the afternoon just looking at a login screen with errors.
I don't care about Blizzards technical issues, thats not my problem. They are a company like any other, selling a product that I have purchased that so far doesn't work. They have chosen to make a game that requires internet and server access even for a single player experience. I have no issues with technical issues when I'm trying to play online multiplayer but this... is just ludicrous.
I have a wife, young daughter and a demanding job and my time is very precious and for this reason I have actually taken time off work to play D3 as I have very little time to do it in my day to day life. I don't want to go for a walk, get something to eat or chill out. I had taken time of work, using holiday pay and causing more work to go back to tomorrow for nothing.
In about 30 minutes It'll be time to go and pick up my daughter, put on some dinner and then it'll be back to daily grind tomorrow and trying to squeeze in an hour each night of free time to play D3... thats if its working of course.
You knew better. This, trouble with the servers in the beginning, was a given with this kind of game. Sorry you took off but i think 90+% of the community expected this, even as we hoped it wouldn't happen. Suck it up, the servers will be stabilized soonTM.
I completely agree with OP. Blizzard is a multimillion dollar company. This is not their first game and they knew that millons of players will jamm the servers. Therefore, they should have taken steps to ensure that every player has smooth experiance for 5 years of waiting this game to come. Its the same thing all over again. And it is going to be the same after every game/expansion launch. It is unexceptable.
If your time is so precious you should have did a bit of research into launch day problems that exist with every on-line game that's ever been launched.

Sounds like you have no idea how a game works, or how a game that has thousands if not millions of people connecting to servers. If you are a father and have a wife I would think you to be more responsibly and logical. Look at any past blizzard launch, at one point in time the servers go down, it always happens. Do not get upset that you can not play, be upset that you wasted your own time. Do not come on the forums and complain when Blizzard has done this for 7 + years.
Why are you defending corporate bastards??? They have so much money that you cannot even imagine! Don't you think that the least Blizzard should have done was to ensure server stability after years of waiting for game development and 6 months launch delay? They surely could have spend a few millions for more/better servers.
And GIVE THE OP A BREAK!!! He regularely bought the game and he deserved to play on 00:01 like every other player!

corporate bastards!?! are you an idiot? Blizzard could have done things like EA and release pitiful games,my example is from Command and Conquer 4 they rushed it and it sucked, instead they make epic games. All the complainers here need to grow up and learn some patience. BTW i bought the game and didn't get to play for hours after launch cause of servers but I am not going to complain because it is a blizzard game and they have NEVER let us down.
always had this experience with Blizz launch days (specially Cataclysm) so I took today off which is one day after release and everything is almost stable ^^

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled
was convincing the world he didn't exist.
Read somewhere that in US alone, over 800.000 had pre-ordered the game. How many there are in Europe and Asia I can't start to guess. In addition, quite a few people bought the game in a store on the 15th. Most of these people will be eager enough to attempt to play on the first occation.
When 1,000,000 + players SIMULTANUOSLY tries to login, you realize things probably won't go too smoothly. I never expected it to, and never dreamt of taking a day off to be among the millions to spam the login button.
You can have as big a server you'd like, no one can meet this peak of traffic. People who thought so are gullible.
"Corporate bastards" are shareholders / stockholders behind Blizz Activision who keep the budget down and that is why we are experiencing server unstability issues for every single game launch. Game developers and designers are great people who keep bringing great titles, but they are not shareholders and therefore they have no vote in company's decision making.
So I've taken the day of work to play D3 and have spent the afternoon just looking at a login screen with errors.
