Kabooom. I studied cognitive psych, and social psych, I'm aware of the side effects of sleep deprivation. I'm just saying your link has incorrect information.
11 days is the held record. 264 hours to be precise. Bizarre cases such as Ngoc Thai are outliers and have 0 relevance to a normal human being.
Also, if you want to throw out credentials I've studied both psych and neuroscience. In addition, I personally know William Dement, have discussed sleep deprivation with him at his house as he lives within walking distance from my grandparents, and members of my family have participated in his sleep studies. So I know what I'm talking about.
If you do wish to hang by your TV documentaries of people performing amazing feats, You'll probably get a kick out of people bending spoons with their mind. Itz likez for realz man!
To get back on topic though, is morbid obesity and coronary heart disease considered a direct result of playing too much Diablo 3 in this topic? Because in the USA alone loads of people die sitting on their supersized ass in front of their computer o.o
guiness world record's stopped recording the category because of the health risks. they stopped recording after that guy who got to 11 days. we should start talking about people who smoke all their lives and never get cancer. or people who eat unhealthy food and live to be 100. these people obviously prove that scientists and doctors are wrong. har har
Not verified by the scientific community, its not Ngoc Thai's job to get it varified, he is just some poor farmer in Thailand trying to make a living. Did they disprove it? Nope. I don't care about your credentials, or who you talk to? Sweet shit. That Article gives the insight that a first year University student could give on the subject.
Pretty sure Thailand doesnt give a fuck about his sleep deprivation, but if an entire village says this guys not sleeping, and our NA/EU sleep deprivation "omfg amazing" team hasn't flown out to study him, well i guess they dont give a fuck about advancing the field of knowledge.

As a fellow psychologist, I'd like to see the scientific research constituting that there are people that have absolutely no need of sleep. I consider random TV documentaries about as reliable as wikipedia.
Nat Geo did a program on amazing people, where it showed the guy from india who hasnt eaten in XX years, and it mentioned him. Also had the girl who orgasms like every 5 minutes etc etc.
So far, the guy in india is holding up in his claims, and no one wants to go study this thai guy sooo. Guess we dont give a fuck enough to look into these things.

Verification has nothing to do with it. You did an excellent job with this post displaying your ignorance in the field.
The article was selected simply because it did a good job covering the basics and came up early on a Google search.

Oh yes, because a bunch of people say it, we should just accept it as the truth. If someone claims they haven't slept for a year you can either mark them as lier or as delusional. Be it "Inedia" or ability to not never sleep, those are all charlartans and it's horrible to even hint at them maybe being right because it might steer people into risking their life trying to do it for real (instead to fake it like those "gurus" do) and then this poll would suddenly be very grim.
If someone claims to have superhuman abilities (e.g. no need to sleep, no need to eat) there are lots of people who would like to monitor them under controlled conditions (and not have them unmonitored part of the time, duh). None has ever done that. So please...don't spread these lies. They're actually dangerous.

actually people bend the spoons, just like they move things on the Ouija board, sorry bro. I'm not a crack, I just leave room for people to accomplish things impossible, because as human beings we accomplish impossible feats all the time. Just like grandma ripping a car door off its hinges to save someone they love, or the monk that takes a spear to the soft tissue of the throat with enough PSI to skewer a normal human being, because he focused his energy to repel the attack.
So if some guy says he hasnt slept in years has a village backing him up, and no one wants to go investigate, because even at the chance that it's true, he could give us so much more knowledge, I'm going to leave room for doubt. If some guy hasnt eaten in 68 years, and uses meditation to feed himself, and after limited observation scientists are "baffled" after a week of observing him, im going to leave room for doubt.

No, because an entire village says it, perhaps it should be investigated so that on the off chance, the 0.000000001% chance that it is actually true, we could learn something. I don't believe that it's true, I don't believe that it's false, I believe it hasn't been answered yet.

Not disproving what? I already gave my opinion on Ngoc Thai, do you not understand the meaning of the word outlier? I never said I didn't believe his story. (I'm skeptical, but some genetic mutation could likely explain it.) In any case, just because he may be able to do it, doesn't mean that you or anyone else can.
I began arguing with you as I was simply attempting to help spread awareness about sleep depravation and you came into the thread stating that everything I said was false ("This information is wrong"). From there all you've been able to say is that 11 days being a record is wrong (which it isn't), and you haven't been able to back up your initial claim at all. At this point I'm doubting your claims of knowing anything about sleep depravation.
Your taunt of "tytyty" just furthers my belief of your immaturity and goes to show I'm wasting my time.
It will only take a blood clot to put you permanently in D3's Real Life Graveyard.
Being in the army <insert w/e else> and being active for long periods of time w/o sleep is not the same as sitting in a chair for 24+ hrs, drinking energy drinks and snacking on junk while staring at a PC screen.
