Dexterity sounds more like something that only applies to weapon based characters though, whereas Precision easily applies to spellcasters as well.
I thought of Power as well but Attack isn't all that bad, besides, it corresponds with the Defense stat as well. Maybe they are already using power somewhere else or something, after all, these are the Core Attributes, maybe some of the other affixes are going to involve "Power" or maybe power is an affix itself (ie Ring of Power), as it would be kind of redundant to have a Ring of Power give +Power. Either way, Attack sounds fine to me, and it obviously fits.
And it seems like pretty much all of these are essentially going to be affixes. If something says +3 Defense, its basically -X% damage taken, but as Bashiok pointed out, it allows them to make it so that +3 Defense = +3 Attack = +3 Willpower, at least as far as item value goes, obviously different builds/classes will want more of different attributes. I do agree that Endurance would be a better name, but once again it could be used elswhere. And Endurance points more to a combination of Vitality and Defense (and Stamina if its in D3) as opposed to just Defense.
Either way, I think its nice that they're simplifying the process of choosing items.
I'm most excited about the language used at the end stating that they were in the late stages of development. I think that means that its likely we will see D3 come out mid/late 2011 (in my humble opinion)
I'm not sure about attack as well. Maybe they could call it offence to go with defence...
Yes I too was thrilled to see the end-comings of the post. I am hoping for the next big announcement blizzard will make will be Beta sign-ups. I don't mind the stat being called Attack (even though it does feel generalized and takes away some of the classic feel). When it comes down to it, it's just a word... Attack, Strike, Power, Force, Strength, Dexterity, so on and so forth... It's like being mad cause someone called Thor's Hammer a Maul... big deal... it's the same thing isn't it? The only thing about class specific items that bothers me is thinking *looking in my stash full of other class specific items* "Now what could I make room for"
Have a "Power" and a "Willpower" atribute is lame. Attack is fine imo.
About the changes:
Attack: I see little downside in merging STR and Spell Power. But i see two major advantages in this new system. First, as Bashiok said, it makes the game much more simple. Second, it really increase the chances of an melee wizard appear. Now the atribute that increase spell damage also increase weapon attack, allowing for a easier hybrid builds.
Precision: I loved it. Two different ways to deal the same damage = cool. But i still think the DPS based on crit should be a little bigger because it takes more risks (it's harder to plan your moves when your damage have big variations... lightning sorc's lesson).
Defence: Easier to get familiar with. But i see a huge overlap between this and Vitality. And no functional differences like Attack/Precision.
Willpower: Rofl i allwasy thought willpower would work like that...
They should make a Speed stat! +Attack Speed/Cast Rate. *-*
Some pretty awesome info on changes to the core attributes.

"Power" maybe? Anything else, really. An Attack Barbarian is lame.
