I have been checking the Diablo3.com website religously since it was bought by blizzard. And all the videos and screenshots I have seen have been beautiful however, and I am a supporter of Blizzards decision to not go all grey like some people suggested, I have faith in the Art team.
But where is the gore? Honestly, I watch all the videos, there is no gore, apart from bits of monsters and some skeleton bones. I take this coming From Act I of Diablo 2, in the Cathedral, there were tortured bodies strewn all around those tunnels, half attached to some wierd evil contraptions, and then the same in Act II in the Harem, slaughtered guards everywhere, and again with Act III in the jungles of Kurast, there are bits of people everywhere, where is it in Diablo 3?.
Just my 2 cents. And please don't make it pay 2 play.
Cheers.

i don't think he means that gore i think hes basing it more off the fact theres no static gore like in D2. He wants, as do i, bodies thrown mangled bruned half eaten stuck on pike in torture chambers and all sorts of creepy stuff. This is what i want to see because really its like a main thing kicking the dead rogues body to find 20 gold was cool the occasional crude sword or the mana and health pots helped. this could be useful being that gold is going to be more valueable and if they wanna give us pots why noto give them off the dead bodies hell even and orb would be nice. But without these dead bodies i agree it seems under gorish because the blood from killing enemies goes away, this blood however does not.

Yes entity, you know exactly what I am meaning, I don't really care about combat gore, as with a game like this it tends to be more distracting(for me) than anything else, but static gore, creates a really creepy atmosphere, when you see all bodies on pikes, torture victims, massacres etc, And I think this is why people think it looks so much like WoW, there is just no static gore, a couple of bones, pfft thats nothing, look towards Warhammer 40K and CoH if you want to see static gore done properly, it sets the atmosphere, and can make locations seem alot more threatning.

I wouldnt say monster gore is distracting although the exploding palm boogles my mind at how a skeleten explodes with blood. and i believe in general the exploding bags of blood is too much how about a small puff of blood and then a ool under th body and when the monsters get big enough say a big pool that little monsters actually float in. my ideas but thats for a different time, for now i just dont see as much atmospheric death i mean walking through act1 yeah maybe shouldnt be all that hell ridden i mean it has been 20 years thyeve rebuilt towns and probaly cleaned te bodies up but i mean act 2 is where we should see minimal body count at least 4-5 per dungeon and around 20 depending on act size on the outside because it just feels liek were walking into a horde of monsters that have just spawned, arent we supposed to be liek the people who come in when all the dumbasses die?

Well, ok, your ideas, that's fine, but my argument I am trying to make, is that the lore calls these the prime evils, these are supposed to be the ultimate evils, the ones that end all humanity, well, I see no proof of this mass genocide. No mass graveyards, no inhumane treatment, no bodies, no nothing, so If there is none of this that we see, how is it so evil? What makes it evil, because Tyrael says it is? Who's to say that Tyrael isn't the evil one. So I want some proof that these are the great evils, not just something, someone brands "evil".

That may also be because we've not seen all of the game yet. In D2 you were following a demon on his path of destruction; in D3 the start of the game is relatively quiet. I think as the game continues we'll continue to see more of what you want.
I'm still one of those people who thinks it's too early to make any decision on the game.

That is an extremely valid point Metz, and I hope it holds true, as the carnage unfolding before us, should make the game a bit more dramatic, however, Watching the gameplay trailer again, as you are running through those tombs, infested with the Dark Cultists, I can't see any evidence of the "human sacrifice" that the lore describes them in undertaking.
I hope that this version doesn't shy away from static gore, as I have mentioned earlier, I really enjoyed the creepy atmosphere created in the Catacombs beneath the cathedral, with bodies strewn all around. As you said however it is still early days, and the gameplay I have seen has only been a measly 20minutes, up to the Siegebreaker Assault Beast.

We haven't really been exposed to very many areas and they are still changing things constantly. Maybe they just haven't made a final decision on what the bodies lying around or on pikes should look like Like Metzcrag said, I think it's just too early to tell.
Welcome btw!

I've noticed the lack of static imagery as well, but we haven't seen that much of the game to be sure. We don't even know that they won't add it later, or that they don't have something physics-related in store for that stuff so they can't show it now.
Well, you apparently have not looked hard enough. I'm not going to go dig it up but there is a picture of a few soldiers standing guard over horse carriage size wheel barrels filled to the brim with bodies. They are providing a taste of whats to come. They have not revealed too much of anything yet.

Yeah I do remember that. The Wizard is standing next to a pile of burning bodies I think? I'll dig it up
As you can see, this is even outside. Imagine how many bodies we will see when we get down in those dungeons!

As far as I can see, at least in Diablo II, the prime areas where you start out don't really have any static gore, like the Blood Moore, Cold Plains, Rocky Waste, etc. I'm pretty sure we've only been seeing prime areas like that in Diablo III so far. We only saw mountains of mutilated flesh when we were near major boss' domains or very important plot point areas (this isn't even universal, though, as there was nothing on this level in Act II of Diablo II).
Same goes for most of Diablo I's starting area (outside the Cathedral and most of the first couple levels of the Cathedral). If they just had thousands of people impaled on spikes on every screen it would definitely lose the effect. I think it would be logical to assume they're saving that kind of stuff for when we get to major boss areas (which I don't think we've seen yet?).

Yeah. I agree with this. I think things will get grittier or more gruesome the closer we get to something big. Like a boss. Act 1 had some random dead rogues throughout but they were definately more abundant the closer we got to the Cathedral and Andariel. There was also the creepy altar with blood everywhere in the Cathedral. I think we'll see some specific areas like Seth said. He also makes a great point that if gore was spammed throughout the game it'd lose its effect.

Yeah, that is a nice pic and shows exactly what I was saying D3 needs, I have faith in the D3 art team, and it's nice to see they have some gore, and it definately does look dark.
And yes too much gore would make it lose effect, as I said though in the gameplay trailer there aren't too many static bodies, and those catacombs the Barb is fighting through are infested with so-called evil Dark Cultists <-what cult isn't dark?
But you are right, we haven't seen anything yet. This waiting is killing me.

You're telling me
However, I would like to add that I think the blood we do see needs to be less like splatters of monotone red. It just looks like someone scribbled on it in MS Paint.
Having played the demo at Blizzcon 09 I can assure there is gore. When following the main quest of the demo you were to reach a town and save some people. The bridge to the town was littered with bodies, decapitation, and blood. The town itself was also the same. Plenty of impaled people and limbs. I was shocked at how gory it was, since that scene alone I feel topped anything gory Diablo has put out yet. The butcher's lair was gory yes, but this was gore you could see detail in.
It's been awhile since I've played D1, or even D2, but I dont recall seeing masses of dead bodies in the early areas, which is all we've seen so far. I never thought of this while reading any other "needs more gore" topics, but it just came to me, I bet people are only remembering the more intense areas of the previous games, like the Butcher's room or Hell from D1. I know that's what I thought of first, without even realizing until now, that the first few levels weren't nearly as bad as what I remembered. Sure there were sarcophagus' and dead rogues etc, but in the 1st dungeon in D1, there weren't any bodies impaled by pikes other than where the Butcher was.
Main point im trying to make is that there will be more gore later in the game. Think of other areas than just the bosses. They aren't as gorey as you remember.
