For the average coop game they say max is going to be 4. That was as of last year. They did mention they have tried 5, but over time it just keeps getting closer to 4. I think its pretty safe to say at this point your average cooperative game is going to be limit 4.
However, they have not mentioned what they want to implement for trade and pvp. It is still very possible that if they choose to use different game types, we could see a PvP game with more than 4 players to allow for bigger PvP encounters.
Also, trade hasn't been discussed much either. We could see an auction system, but if not they may have a very open trade game style. Hell, it could even be 50+ players if they wanted, like an open stock market for items. You could then have tons of people coming in and out of these games trading and such. It might get cluttered, but they could make it a moderate sized trading area, yet no where near as big as the whole game. You wouldn't be loading the whole thing, you would be loading a single area, and it would allow for many people to exist in one area for trading purposes.
Who knows what they have in store for us. I personally have been trying to figure out this Twitter shit to see if I can get some answers, but for the life of me I can't grasp this Twitter concept. Its making me start to feel old, and I'm only fucking 19...

There are no stupid questions, just a bunch of inquisitive idiots.
I'd expect next BlizzCon to have a 5 player limit. So as of now I wouldn't worry too much about the max being 4, my guess will be 6 in the end release.

Only four to a room seems a bit low, but with their desire to keep things on B-net, it might help alleviate some lag due to the amount of connections per room, per server. Plus, slower computers will be able to "keep up" if the lag is lower.

Yep, they have to keep the lag as low as possible to make people forget that THERE'S NO LAN SUPPORT. If B-Net has any lag at all, I'm gonna be pretty disappointed.
I would not be surprised if they raised the level of characters in a game at once, as the environments are going to be a larger scale. The graphics engine is nice, but nothing a modern system can't handle.
I hope they do implement some of the ideas you guys suggested such as PVP/Trade rooms which are excellent ideas. As a PVPer-I just cant imagine having much fun PvPing in a room with 3 other people. I would also want to have team PvP.
Gladiator type rings would be a nice addition. I personally wouldn't join them, but they would be interesting. I think, as far as this type of game goes, I think that NCSoft did it well with the Guild Wars arena system. I don't think an exact replica would be a good idea, but a Blizzifcation of it would be interesting. *Shrug* I'm not a PvPer, so I couldn't tell you much more about that.

Another possibility for the amount of people per specific room could be a balance of power. Sure, the devs can tweak the level of creatures, but at what point does the group become "too powerful", and when do tactics get thrown out the window for a good 'ole fashion zerg?

I would see 5 as the most logical choice, why would a player not want to see all 5 classes working together?
even in d2 games you rarely get all the classes in one game, or even more than 4 different ones
only allowing a few per group and not everyone means group dynamics change, meaning strats change, meaning you think more, meaning you don't just tap 1 2 3 [wait for maelstrom weapon] 4 1 3 2 [wait for maelstrom weapon] 4
the game limit is more depressing when factoring in pvp and trading and etc
I do agree though, tactics are good. Baishok said that they're incorperating more strategy into the game instead of "spam <attack one> + <attack two>". Adding more people will ultimately break down the strategy involved.
Plus, it's easier to design a game around a smaller amount of people working together. *shrug* That's why most MMO parties are between four and six people

I've been watching Blizzcon and no one at the Q&A asked.. I've been really hoping that this has been changed, but maybe I missed some news.
Uhmm... blizz havent announced anything about the number of players in a game. So far, its 4 in a game.

3v3 or 4v4 pvp is probably perfect for this kind of game
why make the max at 4.. so ppl cant even see all classes together

And why raids went from 40 to 25 people as well as including 10 person raids.
