yeah I totally agree with you man, at a few points during the gameplay video I was like WTF is going on!? just seemed like WAY TOO MUCH was happening on screen at certain times, I also think they went a little overboard on the colours of some of the spell effects, at one point i didn't know if I was watching a gameplay video or a fireworks display.
Yea, I think what we've been shown so far of the game seems a bit too heavy on the explosions and large graphical effects. Sometimes simple is better; obviously you want a few skills that generate massive effects that are eye grabbing, but when every skill does it, it gets a bit repetitive. Hopefully we'll have the option to turn down select effects just a notch or two.
Yeah, I have to admit I don't mind the excessive blood-splatter either, but I see a pattern here. I too am a HUGE Tarentino fan. Probably not the biggest fan, haven't seen all the movies yet, and really don't have anything of collector value, however I do know that I am extremely impressed with every movie of his that I have had a chance to view. Ever since Kill Bill I started getting into this guy, watching old stuff. Just a month ago I watched Reservoir Dogs, which I had a dirty secret of never seeing over the years, but I loved it as well. Inglorious Bastards anybody? A little more main-stream on the actors, but looks great none the less (imho).
Back on topic, I really do like all the blood. It really depends on the event though. I mean, lets face it, if you just randomly blew up into nothing but pieces, wouldn't you expect a huge effin mess left of you? The average human body on its own holds tons of blood, imagine what some of these bigger monsters would be capable of holding (or hell, maybe they don't have blood, maybe they have something else?). Blood squirtings do look a little unnatural when you see them, but then again this is a game. Its supposed to excite and impress. What is more impressive that having the ability to smash a monster so hard he explodes into a huge eruption of blood that spills the ground.
Personally, however, I would love to see more of the blood on the character. Anybody who has played Gears of War 2 that when you (spoiler alert, highlight over to reveal) cut the arteries of and cut your way out of the giant worm there is just so much blood that your character is actually covered in red, almost too much. I would LOVE to see some guy explode and rain blood all over a Barbarian or a Monk and just see them standing there with their skin, weapons, and armor covered in blood as your picking up the phat loot they just dropped. It wouldn't be hard at all, especially if they are at a point where they are literally giving us the ability through skills and abilities to cut pieces of flesh and bone off of our enemies. I'm actually going to watch the video again, and if that is not incorporated I am going to suggest it on the Blizz forums.

There are no stupid questions, just a bunch of inquisitive idiots.

I thought it was an average anime character or japanese person holds about 19 gallons of blood at any given point in time.
I'm just teasing you, but I agree =D

dude, they've been working their asses of to get those effects. i don't think they'll make the effects as visual as they possibly can to later scale them down. when you work on something, a skill for example, you work on it till it's done, THEN you show it. Equals = they'll look like that. and its awesome in my opinion. the word "power" has never been used more properly
You couldn't be more wrong, if they would work on something until it's done then show it to us, we would be playing the game already. What is keeping them is all the little fixes and polishing they are doing everyday until the game is done the way it should be. And therefore if they are listening to the fans, which they normaly do, they will correct this aswell, or find a way to please both the people who thinks it's too much and those who like it the way it is right now, which seems to be in minority btw.
Now i understand why this game won't be coming out before a long time, if they have to re-do everything that they do because they realize how much it sux and doesn't make any sense...
That looked epic. I dont know what you were seein but I could see the characters just fine.

I think this is one of the least thought out and most pointless posts I've ever read.
The. Game. Is. In. Development.
This is why there will be playtesting. And Beta. They will balance as needed. They aren't stupid. If you saw it, they saw it. Most blatant issues will be fixed before beta, and post-beta things will be re-balanced.
Saying it's taking forever because they have to re-do everything because they don't get it right the first time...what does that even mean? Why don't you, being so enlightened, point us to a game that was made perfectly the first time and was released with a rapid development cycle?

the effects look to be too much because you are watching a video.
the experience would be different when you are playing.
i've lost count of the number of games i thought would be messy because of too many players or/and effects from watching videos until i played the game and it didn't seem too much

This is a diablo fansite. Everyone here loves Diablo. Saying it sucks is like going to korea and yelling Starcraft sucks.

That's because you're all fanboys who will bash anyone who say anything bad about their precious.
Come on now. Many of us here are perfectly willing to criticize things about Diablo 3. Especially myself. I only hope all of you on either side of the debate are adequately explaining your criticisms or praise.
If you think about it though, there were a lot of effects in D2 also. Something about it being 3D that makes it a bit harder, but I'm sure we'll all get used to it. It'll be awesome regardless.

I personally like the vibrations of the screen. It adds a powerful feel to the magic being cast and exploded.
If they leave everything as is, I would'nt mind.
