Interestingly enough, Bashiok's first post has been deleted on the Battle.net forums (however it's stil lavailable here), wherein he said the following about including a clan-system in response to a user who said it would force raiding:

[quote]But, it shouldn't be a system that forces us to NEED other people to progress. (i.e. raids)[/quote']That has nothing to do with anything. Having a system that allows people to group together in more overarching and permanent ways (such as guilds/clans) has nothing to do, at all, with the style/rules/features of the game.
Why was this post deleted? he says nothing else in this post, so was that perhaps something Blizzard viewed as a slip-up and thought they'd delete? Or was bashiok perhaps entirely wrong, and we won't get any clans?
In any case, I'm fairly sure the first is correct. With Blizzard's added focus on letting users communicate with each other in-between games, communication inside seems like a priority. And if Blizzard doesn't view clans as a feature directly associated with raids, then we'll probably get such a feature in D3 as well.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I doubt they have any of that guild/clan stuff ironed out yet. I imagine that communication systems come in the latter stages of development. They are still very much involved with game play.

Blizz probably just dont want Bashiok to get too involved in stupid discussions. And seriously, after reading some of the posts in that topic, I just wanted to hit myself.. or the poster better.
What else is there for him to do over there though?
If that was the case though, why just delete that post?

yeah the only reason i could see for bashioks post to be deleted would be he said something blizz doesn't want to be out yet. they might have big plans for some type of guild system and if that's the case you know blizzard, they'll want to make a big deal about it. It will probably be something released at something like blizz con.
Maybe it sounded too much like he was confirming that there will be a guild system. I wouldnt have known but Blizzard is so paranoid of any kind of leak that they jumped the gun. The fact that they deleted it may be the ultimate evidence that there will be guilds/clans.

Or in the very least an indicator that such a system currently exists, but isn't final yet.

If there has been anything near a flame war based on if there is or is not going to be clan/guild support then I'm just going to curl up in a ball on the floor right now.

Multiplayer is not wholly and securely based upon the inclusion of clan support.

Fair enough. I'll ignore your backpedal and instead focus on you implying that Blizzard multiplayer is half-assed or slapped on at the last moment.

Maybe when he said it wouldn't need to be part of the "features" of the games it really meant something more, like that it won't be part of the game, itself, but part of Battle.net. That would make sense, since that way a clan or guild would be able to be across multiple Blizzard games.
Given that people will be ablet o communicate with each other across Blizzrard games, doesn't it seem reasonable that you'd be able to have clans across games as well?
A Diablo clan could have a starcraft 2 equivalent, so even though some members are playing sc2 they can still participate all be reahed with clan emssages and the like.

I've got nothing against a clan system, Blizz could easily make it so it workes like the old diablo style, and stays away from the WoW style.
Avoid group raids, and we'll be fine ^^.
They can just add game support for clan channels, and maybe a clan chat button, so that you don't have to fill up your friends list with all your clannies.

All from that thread. I hardly call that neutral.
