You mean similar to the Diablo 2 skill tree? There are tons of passive skills on those trees as well. Namely the Barbarian and Paladin trees. It's so silly that people are so quick to point to WoW when WoW itself took many Diablo 2 functions. I guess people just see what they want to see.
It1s not sillyness. Its really inspired in wow.
Just play attention to the differences.
In wow the skill trees are selfsuficient. All trees have passive skills, active skills and suportive skills, so we have Fury Warriors, Destro Locks and BeastMaster Hunters. In diablo the skill trees (in most cases) are not selfsuficient. You can't make a barbarian with only passive skills, or only combat skills or only warcry skills. You always mix those 3 trees. In D3 cleary the skill trees are self suficient, so you can make a build out of only one tree.
Also the fact that the active skills are maxed with only one point really shows the great (and positive) wow inspiration.
Stop nagging about WoW people.
WoW got most of it's stuff directly out of D2 and Wc3 anyway. It makes sense that D3 will use.
Besides getting the good stuff out of WoW isn't bad, the game play will still be 99% the same as in D2.
(Dont go thinking I'm a WoW lover, I actually hate it. But that doesn't mean that good stuff in WoW is automatically bad.):cute:
To be honest, if you want Diablo 3 to not take anything out of other games, then the game wont excist, cause everything else has already been used in some game. xD
Now, the skill tree calculator is worth nothing in my opinion. Either way, even if it was 100% correct, I would still wait till the game is out and see the real deal for myself.
Thats right. The core elements of the game play (like the isometric camera and the point-click) still untouched. But noone can deny that the new skill and stats system comes from wow and have almost nothing in commun with the old D2 system. Im not telling it's a bad thing - actualy it's a great thing. D2 stats and skills sucked and wow's mechanics are brillhant.
The other guy just said that skills will be much more like wow now, and i was just trying to prove his point.
"Skills' in WoW are purchased from a trainer. You don't learn skills from the talent tree (with a very few exceptions). At the level cap, you already have all the skills your class can use. Talents only modify your skills so that their utilization is different and so that you can perform your role better (which can be one of the three specializations or some hybrid form). You only learn one or two skills tops from each talent tree.
In Diablo, there are no talents (the only skill modification system we know of so far are skill runes). There are only skills and you learn them directly from the skill trees. The system is exactly the same as in D2, except that it visually may remind people of WoW because of the coloured icons. Which are a standard for that type of games these days. Nothing 'WoWish' about it. The only difference is that skills won't all have the same cap (which was a really stupid thing about D2) and that instead of level requirements, they have a requirement of points spent in a skill tree, so that you can't just hold out until you get a high level and then snag all the skills from the bottom of each tree. Instead, they are forced to make more interesting and useful low-end skills as well as high-end skills, and make you want to spend your points in a tree or two, to make a meaningful build.
People who argue that ANYTHING about skills in D2 is similar to WoW talents is more ridiculous than arguing that Diablo 2 is too much like *insert any RPG game here*, for abandoning the system from D1 where you learned skills by reading randomly found books. Things change slightly from a sequel to sequel, you know? Except that D3 system is almost identical to D2 system and changed only slightly compared to the change that occured from D1 to D2.
I think it looks great, but those skills were on THIS WEBSITE'S wiki first, from what i've seen..Correct me if i'm wrong.
right now I really can't wait to play the wizard!
But can someone explain how the skill placement currently works (in blizzcon). you start with the first tier in all 3 groups. When you have 5 skills in the first tier in conjuring, you can go to the 2nd tier in conjuring, but not in arcane?
So basically you need to dedicate 5 skill points in the first 3 tiers to hit the last ones? This is interesting. Elaborate on this if you were at blizzcon.
