Im 100% sure yes. It will be because it has single player and multi player thats free. Also they encourage online play and paying $XX.XX to play doesn't encourage me.
but diablo 2 is well known for being free to play, i highly doubt they will change it.

Blizzard have stated that Diablo 3 is not a pay to play game, they have also stated it is not a MMO.
The only payment required is the initial price of the game, and internet fees. And maybe paying for an expansion some time.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

I never heard them say that. A link perhaps?
I actually think battle.net 2.0 is going to cost money. It sort of makes sense to me. They may even incorporate this into WoW as well. That would prevent competition between their own franchises. One fee can play WoW, SC2, and Diablo 3.
Will there be a single-player component in addition to multiplayer?
Yes. In addition to battling the hordes of the Burning Hells cooperatively with friends over Battle.net, players will be able to adventure through the world of Diablo III solo. More details on both the single-player and multiplayer experience will be revealed at a later date.
You do not have single player in an MMO. Also you do not charge people to use multiplayer on a single player game. If you are going to charge for multiplayer, you generally only have multiplayer.

Strange, I can play Halo in LAN and campaigns... but I can't play multiplayer without a fee. How does that work?
I don't disagree with you. I however don't think that quote proves anything besides blizzard is often times misleading. I really do think bnet 2.0 will cost money. Perhaps not diablo specifically.
The quote only proves that d3 as a game will incur no fees. It does not mention Battle.net 2.0. Very little info about Battle.net 2.0 is available. Perhaps Blizzcon will give us more info on that subject.

Once again, it is not proof. It's your own logical conclusion. Getting online functionality from a game can always cost money. It's just not traditionally how it's done, especially with blizzard. Diablo 3 would be incurring fees if bnet 2.0 costed money. It's just a more global fee. So no, that quote only proves a single player exists. The rest is your own speculation.
however, elfen, hellgate promoted sp but made u pay for a decent experiance come multiplayer if u catch my drift
d3 may do the same
Hellgate: London to see seems generally targeted more towards online play as it's primary mode. Diablo to me has always been a single player game.

Well, some people call it battlenet 2.0 but Blizzard never said it's going to be a separate service. They just said they will be implementing lots of new stuff and revamping it, which sounds to me like evolving the current battlenet.
Since it's a free play service in it's nature and advertisement, I doubt it could ever change in any circumstances. It would basically mean that you would pay for your D2, D1 and SC as well, which is impossible since they are advertised as "Free to play over Battle.Net". Battlenet is battlenet and there are no two ways about it. If there was a separate new system, it would have had it's own new name. '2.0' is something fans made up.
I'm hoping that they will at least offer premium servers for a low monthly fee, with premium services that the free servers don't get - especially in regard to the time restrictions on account and character logins. Other perks could be used as incentives as well.
It Is Free!!!! I Will Buy It Click On Battle.net And Yell Yes!! My Dream Has Come True!!!!!
