By the way, has anyone thought that they can't have the Sorceress (of the Zann Esu clan), Rogue or Amazon as playable characters because according to lore they are gender-specific?
I'd say that there will be a mage-type class that could be from any of the various Mage clans, and I have no idea about the ranger-type class. Either someone new, or they will alter the lore.
I think the witch doctor is a nice character. He/she is like a voodoo priest and I am hoping for more voodoo spells and curses the doctor.
But I don't think the witch doc is some kind of replacement for the necromancer... They surely will implement one "dark" character, maybe some kind of "necromantic knight" (dark paladin) or similar.
Yep but he looks like a Carnival dancer to me.
He's too 'festive' imho.
Hell, Blizzard's choice of colours couldn't be any worse.
Purple cap? What about a pink dress for the barbarian and fluo green boots for the witch doctor while we're at it?
Love him or hate him, I think the current skills we have seen from the Witchdoctor rules out a playable Necromancer:
Summon pets (though I agree these acted a little more like the Druid's wolves)
Corpse Explosion (Necromancer skill, on the pets)
Curse (Necromancer skill, the fear spell)
Poison (Necromancer skill tree, Locust Swarm)
Fire Bomb (Assassin skill)
Further, the journals on Diablo3.com show that society incorrectly blames the followers of Rathma for the events of Diablo I and Diablo II. If at all possible, I think this means that Necromancers are even greater outcasts than they were 20 years ago. I wouldn't be shocked out of my chair if we had a prominent NPC who was a Necromancer, say Zayl with Humbert.
I think Blizzard can preserve the important lore of the Necromancer without letting us play one. We shall see, though.
i agree i think that necros are out... as dissapointing as that is... cause they're my fav.. anyways i think blizzard will pixk the right things for our game....
just throwing this out there... what will the witchdocter look like with a helm on? no mask? or is the mask his helm? can you not wear it?
Don't you think that hammer of the ancients is a rip off of barbarian hammer in god of war 2, if it is they should also add the blades of chaos lol. Barb+Blades of Chaos/Atena= uber char.
i think the sorc and pallys will return with balanced powers ofcourse, because we alrady know of the rouge and the sorceresses were really good, blizz dont forget them peace im out
New to the forums, but going to contribute with a lengthy piece, read or don't read! As someone posted earlier in this thread about the artwork video showing off some very suspiciously looking characters after they showcase several concepts of barbarian armor. Though quickly to address something I've noticed during the presentation game play video after they show off horrify they call the witch doctor the master of fire as he throws around his firebombs. I'd really think this suggests you won't be getting a plain sorc with a fire tree, clearly if they label someone else as the master of an element? Coupled with the fact that during one of the panels I forget which, they say they've added in a new damage type "arcane" This could easily replace the normal sorcerer fire tree and leave them to have lightning and ice as the others. While this isn't a clear gauge at what the new classes might be, it could defiantly be some insight as to what that mage archetype will ensue. Moving on to the artwork video first being a very druidic / ranger type look with a bear cap, wielding a snake while also having dual wield weapons sheathed on either side. This to me seems to hint at another hybrid class as it seems the WD is with being able to summon, master of fire & his masks. They've taken traits from a few classes especially the necro and combined them with the fire element of the sorc. I take this as a template for believing that the image of the druid/nature type character would be a druid/amazon hybrid. Which could easily be renamed as to be a druid/ranger hybrid. They are clearly nature driven, or at least animal driven which means they could use shape shifting to excel at melee, while using traps / ranged attacks in your normal form. So they are a mix of assassin, druid, amazon while still being a fleshed out class in their own right and also filling the gap of that 'dexterity' based class. After that, either one or two slides ahead there is a fat man wearing monk beads, a blue garment and a staff on his back. He could be once again be a main story driven character, or this could simply be another class that they've hinted at. He looks rather 'priesty' to me, but don't take this as a simple healing archetype as that simply will never come to pass in diablo, even if it is based off co-op. The theme of d3 is something to do with the heavens, this might rally priests to come and fight. Think of him with paladin aura's, offensively based magic off holy damage or even lightning damage, while still retaining some kind of melee abilities from a monk-esque type character. I think maybe the paladin is a bit tried and true, while he was a great class in d2, so was the necromancer so I think they will definitely twist at least a few of the 7 from d2lod into new and interesting combo's to start off with a strong lineup for d3 at release. They will definitely have some sort of solid caster, but I still think they will twist another gameplay element into them as to give them the option of not being a sole element caster. They will definitely have an arcane tree though! Theorycraft away!

-If anyone hasn't noticed this yet, they're trying to combine classes. Now, the barbarian, from what i've seen (albeit isn't alot) has nto changed. Then again, i've seen 10 mintes of footage and 5 skills.
-Now the witch doctor was interesting. They seem to have combined the Sorceress and Necro together. Again, we've only seen 5 skills, but he does use a fire bomb and does have curses, and can raise minions.
-Now my thoughts on the other 3 characters are scattered. i wonder what the creative minds at blizzard will come up with next? Maybe a paladin/angel, or an amazon/assassin. no one knows, we'll just have to wait.

It's 3am. rain. thunder, lightning. silence. silence. thunder. wind, howling wind. pricks of sound the rain makes. slowly. as it trickles down your roof. behold the solemn nature. behold the beauty of the storm.
Thassy's Picks
Witch Doctor = Necromancer
Barb
Sorceror (be male or female remember....;))
Got to have the pally
Rogue
Siaynoq's Playthroughs
Thats totally gaay, why would they bring back 3 classes, that sucks dude.
Rogue should be in the list, but paladin and sorc they've been there. Lets just make an exception to barb.

Rogue should be dark enough xD

I agree. These people want an expansion to D2. They can play D2 forever for all i'm concerned.
