I abandoned my monk a month ago even though he had over 200 hours because I just couldnt get gear for him. Now after 1.03 has been out for a while and with the massive amount of people farming Act 1 and getting lvl 62/63 drops prices have tanked on pretty much everthing that isnt near perfect rolls. I really enjoyed my monk and Im thinking about gearing him out again. Right now hes naked as I was so disgusted when I quit him I salvaged all his gear. I refuse to use a shield as a monk so what stats should I shoot for to be able to safely farm Act 3 while dual wielding. I only have 25 mil gold so I dont know if that will work but if I cant do Act 3 that should be more than enough at least for Act 2.
So what should my resists, health, damage, and crit look like in order to not get curb stomped and without spending 100 mil or $300.
Off the top of my head, my stats when dual wielding:
LoH: 1300
HP: 28,000
Weapon DPS: 528 on both weapons
Resists: 700 in all resists
Dexterity: 1100
Crit chance: 24% with scoundrel buff
Crit damage: 200%
Attacks per second: 1.8
These stats allow me to comfortably farm Act 2 completely (with some annoying affix combos giving me trouble), while in Act 3 I have no issue with white mobs, but elites can give me trouble. Although that could just be that whenever I try out Act 3, the game decides to go 'fuck you' and gives me some of the worst affix packs possible...

Dude, you are not alone on that one. Act 3 is a bitch most of the time for me.
Right now I can't do Act 3 with DW, 'cause I have only 528 LoH and 2.6% LL, on 23k dps and 1.9 AS. Not enough healing in the world, especially against monster's ground AoE (I hate molten), even with a billion tornadoes, SW up and hitting multiple mobs at the same time.
IMO, to effectively kickass in Act3 dual-wielding, you need either awesome dps to kill in a heartbeat or insane armor/resists for damage mitigation, and even then with no less than 20k dps.
Depends how you define "farm". I can handle act 3 "fine" with these stats (meaning only occasional deaths, but I certainly can't just stand there hitting mobs, I have to focus). Only thing that gives me problems are the phase beasts in late parts of the act.
This is with enchantress' buffs, nothing else
2100 dex
1.8 AS
5% crit
50% crit dmg
24k dmg
840 resists
6.7k armor
25k life
830 LoH
I'm not sure how much my gear is currently worth, but it's definitely below 25 mil.
By farm I mean like those warriors whirwinding through all of act 3 while everything falls over dead at their feet and they stay full health the entire time.

Uhh, yeah. That pretty much requires gear for 100+ mil. None of the stats mentioned in this thread so far come anywhere close to that.
I'm not immune to death, and I don't have the movespeed that makes barb farming vastly superior to every other class in the game by miles and miles... but there's no pack I can't kill solo with those stats.
This gear didn't cost me 100m. I've got probably 30m invested in armor pieces all together, and the weps I found while farming. They're prob in the 15-25m range, each, on the AH if u were gearing from the start though. I got some absolute steals on a few pieces though, and realistically 100m isn't far off from what I'd get if i sold off my monk set. I initially tried to keep the char cheap as it's not really my main, but it's been a fun char to play with, and it's sadly prob my most efficient farming char.
Here's a few things to keep in mind.
- EHP is really, REALLY important. You are looking to get as much damage in as possible before having to blow survival cds. Surviving burst and having extra buffer hp helps immensely. So don't ignore vitality once you have reasonably high armor/res.
- Damage is king though. You're dual weilding to be more efficient, so you need high crit and good crit damage. Without that, you're wasting your time and would be better off with a shield. Seriously don't use a wep without either a socket or crit damage, preferably both.
- Damage... is... king. You don't have to tank mobs for long if they melt instantly. Use dex to buff your mitigation. Use conviction/overawe. If you can't, you don't need to be dual weilding.
Oh i guess I can post my (cookiecutter) build that every monk uses?
Fist of thunder/teleclap
The invuln thing/4sec duration
Blinding flash/+wep damage bonus
Sweeping wind/tornadoes
Heal/15% dmg buff
Conviction/Overawe
I can DW all Act III with very little problems with (enchantress active):
50k hp, 28k damage, 950 all resist, 5,6k armor, 1k LoH + 2.6 Life Steal and 2.04 attack speed with both weapons. Got 5% crit and 50% crit dmg. Full dps spec with only 4 sec bubble as defensive, if you don't count Blind with Faith in the Light rune or Blazing Wrath as defensive skills (at least they're usually used offensively). With Blazing Wrath active I roll with 31k damage, and things die reasonably fast. I do recommend on going for some crit and crit damage, and intend to do that myself as well, but it's just damn hard to give up items with dual resists, vit, dex and 20% mf + some occasional attack speed or LoH.
Did some experimenting with 11,5% crit and 140% crit damage, and dropped 500 LoH for it, and can't really say there was much of a difference in survivability, so that 1k LoH is propably too much.
So how are you guys getting to 35k+ DPS? My 850 fists can't get me a lot above 20k. Is it the crit?
Yah im shielding and im at 32k dps. Get gear thatcan have crit chance or % and atk speed and get it with high dex. Also I've been using my helm of command with that and my other %life I'm at 62k health so I final don't die in acts 3/4 and ponies.
I'm farming with 37k self-buffed DPS, 55khp and 630all resist. I still die to some garbage packs, particularly bad combos like molten/firechain/vortex or shields. Haven't skipped a pack in a couple weeks though.
Look for a 700-800dps offhand with insane stats on it. I found an 800dps dagger with 200dex/vit, 10% atk speed and 60% crit rating for 3 million and it raised my dps 7000 over my 10 crit shield. There's a good chance you can find a nice offhand for cheap because a lot of people just say "Oh only 700-800dps, must be crap" and put it up for cheaper than it's worth.

Yes, it's the crit. I dual-wield 675dps daggers @ 39k completely unbuffed. 33% chance and 220% damage gets the job done.
To the OP's question, you can easily buy gear with 25 million to get you through act 3 (and 4). But you won't be able to farm act 3 more efficiently than act 2 given what the drop rates look like right now. So it depends what your end goals are here.
As a side note, I feel like block chance is highly overrated. The extra armor from a shield is totally nice though.
I am at 60k dps unbuffed with the enchantress, and buffed at 90k (foresight, combostrike, blazing wrath) plus with overawe, 600 LoH and 5.5% lifesteal i can face tank most anything in the act.
I only have 640 resists and 6400 armor, 30k life, but have 40% crit and 324% crit damage.
I have dual wielded since i was at 40k dps unbuffed and find that it becomes easy around 50k with lifesteal to face tank anything.
I started DWing at around 88k unbuffed dps. Before that I used a 18% sacred shield with 170 dex, 10% crit, 50 res and 10% hp. The dmg difference was not very noticable until that point.
Currently at 100k unbuffed with 43 crit ~500 critdmg 2.4k dex 800 res 50k hp. No loh or ls.
The key to sucessful DWing is to get a slow, high damage Mainhand (preferably with socket and some dex) and a very fast (dagger > sword/fist) offhand with 250+ dex and 180%+ critdmg.
There are a lot of small mechanics at work that make this by far the most effective weapon combination for any mid-high range budget. Important to know is that dps on your offhand doesnt matter too much. Its better to run with a 650 dps dagger that has 190% critdmg and 300 dex than with a 1200 dps + socket mace. On your mainhand its the other way around.

I'm at around 40k dps dw but i feel that the dmg is too low to burst down elites. It feel quicker to just use a shield and face tank at least some types of champion pack.
Still can't decide if it's convenient to just do act 2 until better gear.
What are the small mechanics that you are referring to ?
High damage MH because abilities (i.e. sweeping wind/cyclone) only scale off the MH and not both weapons and a fast off hand with stats to amplify those abilities and to increase the cyclone procs. (or loh if you have it)
Is that correct?
That's what some people are claiming anyway. I haven't really seen any reliable source show that this is the way it works (for some abilities anyway).
From my own experience, I couldn't quite farm A3 effectively when I had 33K dps, 950 resist all, 5600 armor (unbuffed and no follower), 1500 LOH. Sure, I could clear A3 using the more defensive oriented skill, such as Deadly Reach with Keen Eyes or Crippling Wave with Concussion, but it is not really worth the time and effort.
Few nights ago, a 900 LOH weapon drop for me, I replace that for my OH (which has 280 dex/280 vit but no LOH). My DPS drop to 28K or so. But the new weapon immediately help me put A3 on farm status. While the low dps (i don't have much crit chance item yet) means I take a little longer to kill stuff, I have no problem standing in plague, fire chains, and molten while fisting the champions with FoT.
Pretty much only get kill from being chain fear, and perhaps Demon Tremors with fast + electrified now.
