Most of the game (I am now level 60 stuck at the end of act 2) I have used Entangling with chain gang. I like it for the slow effect and that it hits 4 targets if they are close enough. Even in a group I like it because I feel like it benefits more than just me. But I recently switched to bola with volatile rune and it has a nice effect that is not noted, it seems to almost stun the mobs for a split second. Not really a stun I do not guess but more like an interrupt. But they major downside i have seen to that is it wastes alot of my crits when the bola actually hits only hitting for about 400 as opposed to 50+ :QQ:.
I have not used hungering with devouring run much at all. So I am going to give that a shot for sure!
My personal opinion is entangling with hatred regen rune. Single target it doesnt have quite as much damage as hungering... But its pretty close and slows them down without using hatred or dis. Technically if you really think about it.. Your doing more damabe than hungering because you get more shots off before they reach you.
Another thing is if there are 2 guys (90% of the time there are) it will do damage to both increasing the damage overall by more than hungering.
Does it?
Entangling shot only damages the targetted enemy as far as I recall when I tested it...non-hit but chained enemies sustain no damage from the shot...
no one has mentioned evasive fire. ive been using it since late hell and have to come love it. i use the displace rune so its a 30 yrd backflip, with practice you can easily take corners with it making almost as effective as vault for alot less disc. decnt single target dmg and 4 haterd to boot.
Evasive fire is an interesting skill, but imo the auto-backflip is actually a severe disadvantage because it always triggers within a certain range (regardless of whether you are shift-attacking or not). This means that you will end up in circumstances where you can't use your main attack because backflipping backwards would be bad, or because you don't want to spend the discipline.
I recall my first time trying covering fire, I very quickly ran into a situation against unique frozen enemy where I couldn't fire because it was too close and there was a frozen orb behind me. The backflip trigger range is also large enough that it easily ends up being triggered too often, wasting discipline for when you really need it. Should mention I play HC, maybe matters less for SC.
They may have fixed it since beta, but Entangling shot was doing damage on both targets. In fact if you had three in a line, and you linked the middle and left, then the middle and right, the one on the left would take damage as well as the other two. But it seemed like a bug so it could have been fixed, I haven't touched entangling at all since the beta.
Right now I'm using Hungering Arrow with devouring rune. I tried out Bola, but the delay just really threw me off. I'm considering abandoning a generator all together and just picking up the bat companion in it's slot and using my elemental arrow for everything, but I think I may need more regen then the bat to feel comfortable with that.
I might give Entangling a try though tomorrow, I really liked it in the beta, but I'm wondering if the slow will be as noticeable in Inferno, I had to change my caltrops from the 80% slow to the immobilize because 80% just wasn't doing much to most of the monsters. So I'm not sure if the loss in damage will be worth it.

Yeah the delay on bola shot is brutal, and especially if you rune it for imminent doom. Evasive fire has that problem of backflipping, I don't like that at all. To be honest though this is just at first glance, using each skill for maybe twenty minutes. I haven't even given these two skills (or entangling) a fair chance.
I'm interested to see if anyone has used grenades in their build. Wouldn't it be interesting to see how viable a grenades build could be?? I think that the general consensus is that they suck though.

Yeah but once I played with the Covering Fire rune I couldn't use it with anything else... CF + Multishot = AOE heaven

Yeah that's awkward it can screw you up sometimes
The trick is to use it at long range and reserve some Hatred at all times so you can swap to your secondary attack when they're close and you don't want to flip. And whatever you do don't get caught on edges lol.
Hungering Arrow w/ Puncture Rune coupled with Marked for Death w/ Mortal Enemy.
Hungering Arrow because of it's idiot-proof magic arrow perk.
Puncture because each consecutive pierce generates 3 hatred due to Mortal Enemy. It may not be as much hatred/sec as Entangling w/ Justice Rune, but all the other perks make up for it.
Sidebar: cold damage bow > entangling shot...
Nether Tentacles and Hungering Arrow both do straight weapon damage so the cold effect is preserved. Which means everything I fire slows enemies no matter what. It makes every single fight in the game that much easier.
Using Hungering now but I prefer Entangling. Using Hungering mainly for boss fights as changing skill will get rid of your MF stacks. I just need to practice targeting a bit more and then probably switch to Entangling permanently. Need a mouse for that though... Mac's mouse kinda sucks a lot for gaming =/
I liked the Supression Fire on Evasive Fire while leveling up and finishing off Hell. 3shots, good damage, awesome looking animation and if anyone gets close to you, you jump backwards. I even used this on Diablo as a dick move whenever he tried to melee me. It works great in a lot of situations but sadly iv stopped using it in Inferno.
Honestly I think people need to stop asking other people for skill advice and just take the hours to try them out on their own. I dont mean this as an insult but you playstyle and my playstyle might be assbackwards. I have a friend I met in D3 and they re-rolled from DH to Barb and I went from Barb -> DH. Not everyone has the same playstyle or patience to tolerate a glass-cannon. Everyone is different. Find out on your own whats best for you.

It's a better trick to realise that if you have to go out of your way to make use of a (primary attack) skill that is of debatable benefit over other generators, it's better to use something else.
You aren't always going to be fighting slow zombies, and on harder difficulties when things are more dangerous and you come up against an extra fast, arcane, mortar etc, you need full control over your character and to have enough disc to vault when needed. Maybe you can afford the occasional death, but hardcore players can't.
I usually lay out a caltrop or three (runed hooked spines for 80% slow), followed by 3-4 spiked traps (runed bandolier) and then spam bolas (runed volatile explosives) with the occasional rapid fire thrown in.
Mobs rarely get close to me with this combo and champ packs and rare elites don't stand a chance.

For my hatred regen I use hungering arrow (dev rune).
