d3 being a prequel is a valid point its brought up quite abit. but because Belial and Azmodan still elude us, i like to think we will face them in a sequel.
not that a game set during the sin war would be bad, id love such a game, but with 2 of the seven most power demons in the diablo universe left unkilled, i think the next game would features these two.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
it was never shown to have been destroyed. but it is generally accepted to have been destroyed. the other two were.

Everyone please remember...there are still two lesser evils that have not been slained yet. Azmodan and Belial. Either we finish off hell and destroy the remaining lesser evils...or...Azmodan and Belial will ressurrect the primal evils...or...the Primal Evils escape from the abyss. I believe that baal's soulstone alone will not fullfill the storyline in the next installment. More has to be included to make the game complete. MHO.

Those before me shall quiver in my wake as I unleash the fury within!
Is it possible that Azmodan and or Belial could steal Baal's soulstone in order to drain its energies to fuel a war against heaven? Does a soulstone hold ambient energy? Can Azmodan and Belial work together long enough to carry out a full scale war?
there is no real proof the soulstone was destroyed or not destroyed, the last movie is just of Tyrael destroying the worldstone, no other character is present. but I along with many others choose to believe that during the time Tyrael is doing what he believes must be done, your character returns to hell forge to destroy the last stone.

Don't know what the story is going to be but whatever it is i can't wait.. im liking the idea of the 2 other evils ressurecting andy / duriel type thing.. dont know about corrupt tyrael though.. either way going to be damn fun.. definately has a wide open ending indeed...
the way i see it, the "ending" is the explanation for nightmare and hell modes. the destruction of the worldstone basically creates a time loop sort of thing, and you have to do it all over again, even though all your equipment is proof that you've already done it once or twice.

HMM interesting point Archtype zero...but Hell mode does to offer the same Ending. i think the nightmare and hell modes were there just for the reason of allowing u to further progress ur char into the game considering the amount of wpns and items included in the game
story mode is the same for all, you get the exact same ending. its not like WCIII where you got an extra short movie for finishing the last campaign on Hard mode.

I don't think the game needs to come up with a plot-based reason for you to go and do it all over again. That'd be like making a cinematic of your armor being repaired just to legitimize that particular feature. As replayability is merely a feature, I don't think a glorious and subjective cinematic would be there just to justify why you are able to go back and do it again.
And if that were the case, wouldn't your way of seeing things be more reasonable for normal and nightmare modes? At
However, the idea that the Worldstone might be linked to time itself is interesting.
as much i would love for there to be a diablo 10, lol i just dont think it will get that high.
diablo 3 yep Diablo 3 Expansion, again yeh i could see that, but diablo 4? maybe as a MMORPG, similar to how one could call WOW WC4.
and anything after that i dont see as very likely.

Nevertheless, I'd love to play as a Horadrim character. And in a Sin War game that'd be pretty bloody likely.
Yeah!

so that their will be an alternate way that either ball mephisto and diablo
escape or we have to fight the demons which spill out from hell and travel to
the void in which the 3 prime evils are held and finaly destroy them once and
for all.
