Time to start working on our rainbow resistance? I guess some marshmallow resistance would be good too. Heck, maybe the next character class will be ghostbuster!

not sure if anyone here is a Silent Hill fan, but there's a "level" in Silent Hill Homecoming that is exactly how i would expect Hell to be. I found Silent hill's "hellish" mine level to be pretty scary, even for someone who's 'seen it all' in other games and movies.
I think any view of what Hell should look like is gonna look corny to some people. I hope they focus on making it actually creepy rather than just trying to throw fire and brimstone and demons in wherever they can. It needs to have a creepy feeling. Not just lava and stuff, but a place that's actually disturbing to be in. -

You've got some good points there. No matter how they set up stat points, skill points, and runes, and any combination of them, there will be a few good ways, and a few bad ways. And probably a few terrible ways and a few uber ways. So, while in D2 you can become great through stats, in D3 you will become great through skillpoints and playstyle. The way i see it, they haven't sacrificed anything, they've only shifted peoples' focus from stats to skills. Which, to me, is a good thing.
From what i've seen from playing WoW though, a lot of times there is no "best" way. there is only a best way for speciffic playstyles. So hopefully they will balance the different character builds so that the good builds are equal in a way, that way, no single uber build will dominate the game. For instance, in WoW whenver a ridiculously powerful combo or build is found by a player, Blizzard finds a way to nerf it, not to take away power but to restore the balance of power while keeping the game fun for people who don't enjoy the playstyle requitred for that certain build.
This is getting to complicated, but overall what i'm saying is i agree, and i have trust in Blizzards' ability to keep enough customization to please people, but also allow more skillful/knowledgable players to have the advantage they deserve through playstyle rather than through character build. -

I bet that would piss you off huh? What if you don't like Coca-Cola? I feel the same way when it comes to this game. Players should always be allowed to choose the path of their characters. That is what makes it a Role Playing Game. They are taking the "Role" out of it.

But it's not really a question of how you want to build the character. Just because you have the option to do something, doesn't make it a good idea. In Diablo 2, you can unequip everything and run out and get yourself killed on purpose. but is that a good idea? Not at all. you have the potential to do it, but it's just not a good idea.
The thing is, we're going to have the stats we were going to put in anyway. The soda example doesn't really apply, because some things simply don't work, like putting all your points into your Dex on a Sorc...that would be like saying "i only drink Soda that has been shaken up and sprayed into a broken glass, then left outside for five weeks." You could do it, but why? Game only have the options they give you anyway, so does that mean that every game that doesn't let you put in stat points into the main character is limiting? No, games only put in customization systems that work well with the games' other systems. -

they are using ideas that work, because....they work. Not only that, but they have rhard evidence and player feedback from WoW that it works.
You have to realize that the idea of different character builds is sort of an illusion. In D2 you COULD make a sorc and give her nothing but strength. But is that a good idea? no. Will anyone do it just because they can? No, not unless they are bored or enjoy roleplaying a suicidal hero. Same thing with cloth and mail armor. You COULD make a barb and only wear cloth. But is that a good idea in any way? No. Just because you Can do something in a game, doesn't make it a legitimate choice.
This system eliminates any silly character builds. And the "alternative" builds from D2 (like Hammerdins and and any other class trying to be another class) will probably be implimented through a different system, like through talents.
As for WoW being "kid friendly"...have you ever played WoW? I could beat D2 on all it's difficulty levels with every class in the time it takes to reach 70 in WoW, not to mention, WoW (if you're playing right) requires WAY more thought into your character build, because it's all about the talents you chose, what combination of them you use, when and how you use them...instead of just choosing one skill and useing it 100% of the time brainlessly like in D2.
To sum it up, choice of build in D2 is an illusion and depends on the skills/talents you chose far more than the stats you chose, so they are making a great choice. -

it sounds basic at first, but the sorcerer/ess has been part of diablo since the beginning, and this is sort of a rebellious style of sorcerer/ess, which is a cool idea. Using magic that is supposed to be forbidden helps out the idea of how the character is supposed to feel powerful playing that class -

I honestly always thought of assigning stats as sort of pointless, because each class has what it's "supposed" to do, i mean, that's why there's different classes. I can imagine that demons are probably pretty focused on pride, so maybe they are fighting over who gets to be the one to fight off the next adventurer? For example, just because you kill demons in a game, does that mean you'd do the same in real life? Nah, you'd die in act 1 in real life. So why stop there? Why not have a little fun roleplaying?

On the other hand, Diablo enemies do tend to work the opposite way. They look really cool, but when it comes down to it, most aren't threatening at all. As he mentioned, the tentacle beasts...they look and sound pretty dangerous, until you one-shot, and think "wait, that was it?."
Personally, i did't like much of Act 2's enemies. Saber Cats just seemed silly, and the vultures only flew for effect...really you could just run past them if you wanted. The beetles were just annoying, and the lightning they shot out made no sense at all. Come to think of it, most of the elemental damage from monsters didn't make much sense...
Vampires with fire, bats with lightning, and cold enemies in act 5 with no cold damage...what's going on here! I hope they rethink the elements in general. I'd like to see the Pagan elements personally, Earth Fire Water Wind and Spirit, since Blizzard doesn't seem to mind using stuff from actual religions anyway (the pentagram for example being from Paganism, and the Zakarum seem to be loosely based on Christianity) -

On the other hand, you didn't really need to...i saw it as basically an aesthetics thing, just there for effect. But it would be nice to see more AI. I wasn't wild about how the barbs in act 5 often got stuck "patrolling" walls and cliffs if you killed their attackers. That sorta killed the effect. It was like "hey man, i just saved your life, and you repay me by running back and forth in front of a cliff?"Posted in: News

the inventory sounds cool too. diablo 2's inventory can get annoying, and WoW's inventory is too easy to lose items in. The only thing i don't like about WoW is just how technical people get when it comes to specs and gear and whatnot. I hate being told that i'd have a extra half a percent damage if i did this or that...the whole point of the skill tree is to allow different playstyles, but a lot of wow players just want to tell everyone else what they're doing wrong. (ironically, my build could easily be considered a cookie-cutter build, yet i still get suggestions from people i've never talked to before who just wanna give their two cents at random)
when i started playing, i was under the assumption that it could be solo'd, like Diablo. I was fairly disappointed when i realised how heavily WoW depends on party play because
1. i prefer to solo, to see what i'm capable of, not what everyone else is capable of
2. i don't like the idea of having to join at speciffic times...it makes it feel like a classroom, or sports practice or something instead of a video game
3. i work night shift, which means if i go on a run, it almot has to be with a pick-up group, so i can't get to know people's playstyles as i go
4. i often play video games to releive stress, but dealing with people on wow can feel like a chore or a second job sometimes
but by the time i realised all this, i was already addicted, so i contnue to play, just doing pvp battlegrounds and daily quests

Someone mentioned Eraserhead, and i second that for sure. It's also not your typical "scary" horror movie...it is truly disturbing. Watch this movie alone in a dark room (as cliche as that may sound) and i guarantee you will be afraid to move. The way it's filmed, the awkward silences, the weird camera angles...everything in that movie is meant to draw you in and creep you out. There's no overdone pop-out scare tactics in this movie, and the more you pay attention to it, the more it will bother you. If you like this one, then i also recommend a movie by the same director, called Inland Empire. It starts out pretty slow, but it gets really weird.

Wow. I don't even know where to begin with this comment. No plot? Since when is going against the system to prove a point not a plot? Sure it's been done before, but not nearly as elaborately as in The Dark Knight. No character developement? That's weird, since that's pretty much what they focused on throughout the whole thing. The deep voice thing is to disguise his voice, because unlike ALL the other Batman movie, Batman finally actually cares whether or not people know he's batman. And as for Batman looking like a midget...well, that comment is obviously not really based on anything, unless you watched it on a screen with really, really weird resolution.
People loved the idea of him playing the Joker way before he died, so it had nothing to do with that. that's just coincidence. Jack did a silly version of the Joker, but they wanted him to have a more serious attitude. They wanted a Joker that actually seemed like a threat, not just a goofy comic book villain that just wants to spraypaint over art. I mean come on! It is cliche for villains to have some weird quirks, but Nicholsons' version of the Joker was just a little too silly. Batman wanted to stop being batman because he feared that his presence itself was causing people like the Joker to rise up. I honestly wonder how you missed that, because to be quite honest, they dwell on that idea for a long time. How were the scenes "pasted together?" They did skip from place to place a bit when it wasn't too important, but i mean, would you rather watch Bruce Wayne sleep or something to add to the fluidity? That would only make it longer. They cut out stuff where you can assume what's going on...just like in any other movie.
Nolan's Batman movies have given an old favorite superhero a breath of fresh air and saved it from dying out. Surely you don't prefer George Clooney's silly performance against the governator making wise crack s about "putting him on ice" and asking him if everything is "cool enough" for him, heh. The old batman movies were ok for their time, but the newest ones add a whole new dimension to the concept, and have much better acting, writing, action, and...well, they're just better in every way.

Yes! I love that series, i have all of them on dvd. I like the voice acting in the english version though. The fighting is believable, it's humorous yet serious at the same time, and it's a great story. Lots of epic scenes in that series. What i liked the most about it is how a lot fo the fights seem like they're cut short, but really it's more realistic that way. Not every anime battle has to be long and drawn out, and Samurai Champloo certainly shows that. It makes the longer fights seem that much better
Death Note is really good, i like the constant plot twists...it makes you think about what's going to happen next, and what you'd do in that situation.
Ergo Proxy was really good too. There are a lot of really slow episodes, but those ended up being the best ones. The action is good, but the series could easily be good even without the action scenes
