The Meteor crashes through the roof of the original church at Tristram not into mount Areat, and an Angel possibly Tyreal (but judging by the winged helm and shoulder armour + orange/yellow wings I doubt it) rises from the hole in the church floor.
You can notice the same use of color from a screen shot of the cinematic trailer right after it hits the church. Perhaps these concept art are to depict Tyreal "rising from the ground" ...
If you look, they are both set in a cathedral style setting ... Likely, old Tristram's cathedral.
BUT the MOST convincing evidence of this to me is the following:
This is the background setting for the main page, and on the main page, Tyreal is standing in front of this image.
The simple chandelier in the photo on the main page also gives me the idea that it could be Tristram. Yes, the chandelier is different in the concept art, but I think since it's an early piece of art that it might have been decided that the chandelier in the artwork was too "grand" for Tristram.
Tyrael was bluntly the only Angel that gave a damn what happened to humanity.
I'm not sure this is the case. I think it is more likely that Tyrael was interested in stopping the Prime Evils from enslaving humans and using them as soldiers in the war on Heaven.
Yes, it was Tyrael's vote on the Angiris Council that spared the world of Sanctuary at the end of the Sin War. Tyrael did not cast his vote because he wanted to help the humans, though. He was merely intrigued by their sense of self-sacrifice and "free will":
Quote from "Tyrael" »
THIS PLACE CALLED SANCTUARY HAS BROUGHT FORTH SUCH AS WE HAVE NEVER WITNESSED. THINGS I MYSELF CALL ABOMINATIONS!...BUT ABOMINATIONS DO NOT FEEL SUFFERING, THEY DO NOT STRUGGLE FOR ONE ANOTHER AGAINST GREAT ODDS AND THEY DO NOT...THEY DO NOT...OF THEIR OWN FREE WILL...CHOOSE...YES...CHOOSE TO COMMIT SUCH GREAT SACRIFICE FOR THE SAKE OF OTHERS.
When another of the Angiris Council notes that angels sacrifice, Tryael counters:
Quote from "Tyrael" »
WE SACRIFICE BECAUSE WE MUST...BECAUSE IT IS PART OF OUR CALLING! WE DO IT BECAUSE IT IS OUR DUTY AND NO MORE!
Tyreal concludes:
Quote from "Tryael" »
MY VOTE IS FOR THEM...FOR I WOULD SEE WHAT THEY MIGHT BECOME...AND MARVEL IN IT.
As romantic as the notion is that Tyrael has been trying to help mortals--and as exciting as the idea is that he might be corrupted and turn against them--I think he has only been interested in Sanctuary as an experiment. And his motives in helping defeat the Prime Evils are only to keep mortals from being used in the war on Heaven by the demons.

I don't think that Tyrael was corrupted in D2, the Worldstone isn't a one sided artifact. It can used to both evil and good ends, that's why Tyrael had to destroy.
As for the Necromancer turning evi, well if you read Moon of the Spider you should know that the only possible evil in Necromancers is when they become too zealous with keeping the balance at any price.
The Worldstone is an artifact that was used by Inarius to create Sanctuary, following to Uldyssian the stone essence can be felt anywhere in Sanctuary. Inarius gained unthinkable powers by controlling it, so if Baal gained control of it before he died, then yes it had to be destroyed or the very fabric of reality would be torn apart allowing hell to destroy Sanctuary and ensalve mankind to do their biding against the angels.
If the angels or the demons win the Great Conflict Sanctuary and all existence will be doomed, so we'll certainly have to face angels at one point as well.
There has to be good and evil if good goes out winning every thing then good becomes corrupt and its sellf becomes evil and the old evil has to come back and destroy the good to even it out and they become to strong and its a never ending battle so I say evil and good switched over and your on the wrong team at first and decard cain is evil bitch lol idk
(Sorry for English at first!) Well, My theory from the trailer is that Baal knew that the "Heroes" will "destroy" him. Think about, if you are Baal and you have the power strong enough, why should you lock yourself in a small room and wait for somebody to kill you? That is not what a evil should do. I believe that most of the people have read some books or seen some films about santa. The typical figure of santa is not invincibley powerful but always very very fraudulent, always provides some "unfair" trade which seems to be quiet "fair"(For example the Mephisto in Faus I and II). So, my idea is that Baal set the trap for Tyrael inorder to lure him to destroy the worldstone, which is already "corrupted" by Baal. It is very interesting to think about what does it mean by "corrupted"? For example, Baal filled the worldstone with the evil spirit of the prime 3 evils........
And in the FAQ of the official site of D3, it says that the cain will be the first victim.
In conclusion, cain will die because of Tyrael. But in which way I don't know and I don't want to know. The girl will replace the role of cain. She will guide the player through the game. Tyrale was possessed by Baal, Mephi and Diablo or just turn to the site of evil and attacks the human world with his heaven troops.
Sorry again for my bad English!
After skimming through this paragraph I saw these terms: "The girl will replace the role of cain" "Tyrale was possessed..."
Alright, frist off: What the hell, no one gonna replace the role of Cain, I'd rather have an old man telling me lore than a girl. Secondly, I despise all Tyrael-going-evil threads, why? BECAUSE THERE ARE JUST TOO MANY OF THEM! Where in Diablo lore does it say that Tyrael is going evil, did Blizzard even state it?!
As for the metor, the metor could represent the first time the High Heaven's prescense upon the Sanctuary without discreet. As the Worldstone was destroyed, the barries of the High Heavens and the Burning Hells might have been destroyed in the process, thus graniting access upon the Sanctuary with little or no difficulty. With the two sides taking the everlasting war to the Sanctuary, mankind will be forced to join either of the two, ending to their demise, probally...
Just a thought, but Baal corrupted the Worldstone by putting his essence into it right? If that was the case wouldn't it be like a giant soulstone for him? And if you remember when Tyreal destroyed the stone is shattered into bits, but what if one of these bits hit Tyreal and imbedded itself in him? If it only took months for the D1 hero to become corrupt, how long would it take an archangel? Maybe 20 years.

Haha @ the 3 people correcting his spelling. I think since he's plastered on the site and in the artwork, he will be a major part of the story. Check out the Story forum for our discussion on it.
My guesses are: Deckard cain got corrupted by Diablo as he sais himself on his journal (D3 website)
Tyrael will try to imprison or cast a spell ot something on Cain to seal Diablo from his mind.
it will be to late...
Tyrael will fight diablo. you have to help tyrael...Tyrael wil lose...You kill Diablo
i hope tyrael isnt corrupted hes too tight, i am really impressed by how they created angels to look in diablo 2, the wing effect and the masked face is awesome
if i'm allowed to speculate...and keep in mind i'm a little hazy on my lore.
Tyrael killed the worldstone didn't the angels make the worldstone for a reason?
If this is true I think Tyrael will be punished/imprisoned by the angels.
If THIS is true then there will probably be an awesome mission in which you infiltrate heaven and rescue Tyrael.
Also if you look at the D3 mainsite it says something about a threeway conflict between angels, burning hells and Sanctuary I'll try to find the quote.
here is it: "The comet carries a dark omen in its fiery being and it calls the heroes of Sanctuary to defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells – and even the failing luminaries of the High Heavens itself."
